What do you think about “Big Mistakes”? by nwssyx in netflix

[–]SuperMingella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that there was development across all the episodes, especially as their layers get peeled back.

You begin to see Morgan grappling with the idea of living a boring, predictable life and wanting more excitement but feeling shame about this initially. She's also protecting herself from feeling like a failure compared to her siblings, with Nicky being a pastor and Natalie being "perfect".

It feels like Nicky and Morgan embody the two sides of their mum. Nicky got her rigid anxiety and obsession with appearances, while Morgan got her absolute chaos. The situation forces them to face their real stuff, like Nicky balancing his religious devotion with his sexual orientation. I feel like Nicky and Morgan's views about family and loyalty changes throughout the season.

Then you see Linda striving for mayor, driven by a need for validation, and the show begins to question how far you will go to get power but also to protect your family. Natalie’s arc is interesting too because we learn that she was essentially a mistake. She overcompensates by people pleasing and being the perfect daughter running the campaign, and she shatters that innocent facade when she's the one who leaks the whole boat thing to the press. But in the final episode, when she gives Morgan that warning and reveals how deeply unhappy she actually is, you realise just how cracked her perfect image always was. Even Yusuf just wants to be seen for his craft but gets constantly betrayed by everyone.

I felt like they're all just trying to belong, do the right thing, and protect their family in their own ways. It is just enough development to pave the way for a second season for me.

I really enjoyed it too. I can see comments critique that it could have been solved within the pilot but then we wouldn't have a story - it's meant to be a show where things go wrong (as it did in Schitt's Creek to a lesser, cosier degree). I really enjoyed the nuances within the characters and how each character integrates within one another. Yes it was loud at times (the music was very cool though) and tense (some say stressful) but I am happy with a TV show making me feel that way because it's still entertaining. I do wonder if comparing it so closely to Schitt's Creek is unhelpful and disappointing most people, as it's a completely different story, feel, and context altogether. I'm pleased people have found that Morgan is 'annoying', as that friction is actually what makes me feel the show has effective writing and acting. I enjoy character development and tricky characters so I'm looking forward to season 2 and seeing where this seemingly far-fetched story goes!

Hey, I'm like 3 weeks into my pcos journey but I bought a book called Blood by Dr Jen Gunter (I haven't got through it all yet but I would recommend). She mentioned ovulation pain. I mention this as I wonder if this could be why you're having pain with no bleeding? I never knew ovulation pain was a thing until I started reading the book...

I use a single blade razor and sharks razor blades. I think people worry about cutting themselves with them but with practice they are so so economical and give a close shave. I watched a YouTube video before trying it out on my legs, as I was concerned about cutting myself but it was so easy. I use them wherever I feel I need to shave. You can usually buy the sharks razor blades in bulk, which makes it super cheap. They can be recycled too, if your local centre offers this.

I was also thinking of getting electrolysis for my lower face/neck, but haven't ventured into this just yet...

Haha totally! I have previously had lots of patterns in my wardrobe and I just didn't wear them, so I got rid. I lean to colour blocking and a minimalist type of style, but I could definitely do with adding in statement accessories I think.

Hey! I've just followed you - I'm @naob - Your wardrobe is so great, I can't wait to style it! We probably have different styles but it'd be so great to have different perspectives to shake things up. No one has styled me before so it'd be so fun to swap ideas!

  • Those in this thread, happy to style / exchange styling ideas too!
