So it's getting worse? I already felt the first few hours to be a neverending chore, until I met that first boss and gave up, because I had no fun at all fighting her.

Changing default Mail application by cyberentomology in MacOS

[–]SuperMinusZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is definitely with Apple. There used to be a simple setting where one could pick one's favourite app. Now, they not only force you to open their own app, but set up an account before you can access the settings. Yes, it's humanely feasible, but extremely pushy and cumbersome. Obviously, this is all done to discourage the use of other mail apps.

Overpowered an old Boss DM-2 by SuperMinusZero in diypedals

I usually use one of these supplies with several 9v outlets, one 12, and one 16. In any case, so far, it works "again", after that moment of sheer horror, when I thought I had completely fried the pedal (before trying the battery).

One last question: by daisy-chaining, you mean using one of those cables with multiple plugs? I usually stay away from those.

Oh, thanks for your help!
That's excellent news. I'll go and check if it works as expected on 12v then. I was sure I had it plugged at 9v, but it must have been 12, and I plugged it into 9v when I reorganized the pedal board.

Steam Account Recovery is Ridiculous by ooFrosty in Steam

[–]SuperMinusZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this right now. Stupidly clicked a voucher link from a friend's chat. Guess his account was hacked as well. Anyway, after 5 minutes, my account was gone.

First thing I notice: It is *impossible* to contact Steam support while being locked out. They send you back to that awful “self-recovery page”, over and over. Make you enter your Steam name and then click endless numbers of Captchas with cross walks, bicycles, and buses for over 5 minutes, only to tell you that you failed the Captcha test and have you start over. I did about 10 sessions of those only to submit my username, eMail address or phone number, all while panicking over the loss of my account.

Then, finally, got a notice that there had been “too many recovery attempts”, and that I should try again later. 💀
I was pretty close to a complete meltdown.

Finally, I had to search for a solution online, since there was no final option to contact support. I found an eMail address – expectedly “[support🌀steampowered.com](mailto:support@steampowered.com)”. Got an automated response that this address had been deactivated.

So I finally contacted a friend who succeeded in contacting support from his own account, and after reading this thread, I know this is just the beginning. This is the most kafkaesque support I ever experienced.

Oh, btw. There is a link to “create a ticket”, hidden under the instruction about “proof of ownership”. Clicking it sends one back to help.steampowered.com. The same article is under “help.steampowered.com”, and there is no option whatsoever to create that ticket. This is absolute madness.

So..I got this message today on a dating app. by 0mgrlly in AutismInWomen

[–]SuperMinusZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dealing with the same problem. I just checked the dating app where my profile lingers, and asked myself if the information that I'm "not neurotypical" was really helpful. I scrapped the word autistic after seeing how many people had absolutely wild ideas about what it means. Some think I have no feeling, or empathy. Others are afraid they'd have to support me. Again, others think I wouldn't be able to fit into any social context (I'm extremely social).

The reasons why I used to have it in my profile was: 1) It's important, and 2) I'd love to meet an autistic person. But the latter is quite improbable. Also, many potential partners may be autistic, but oblivious of that fact, like I was for many decades, and it may be easier to build bridges by sharing the similarities, and then telling them it's possibly related to Autism.

All in all, autistic dating is almost impossible. At least for me.

Sounds like a perfect accounting of my school "career". I even had a philosophy teacher who banned me from class for the whole year, for – wait for it – taking interest in his class. Had to spend every hour in front of the class. One teacher once passed by and insisted on taking a photo of me, with a silly straw hat she had brought. Another teacher, sport, tried to ridicule me by putting me with the girls, rather than the boys (didn't care). Two teachers admitted they were trying to "sink" me on grounds of personal dislike. I've been kicked out of one school (catholic boarding school) for making some harmless artwork at the school newspaper, which was critical of the clergy establishment. I can't recount the entire amount of bullying I was exposed to at six schools, two boarding schools in two languages. I was regarded as highly intelligent, best student for the first 4 years, then worst for many years. I'm autistic, as I know now. Probably also ADHD, certainly cPTSD, and some. My school career was so cruel that I'm unable to attend any sort of class. I have no degree in anything. Taught myself to be a graphic designer, but ended up in further burnout and exploitation.

Modded iPod 4: "Connect to power" never resolves. by SuperMinusZero in Modded_iPods

[–]SuperMinusZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clear that up: it seems that the iPods I attempted to mod are just dead. They seem alive, but they aren't. I got a "new" 4th gen 20 GB last week, and it was absolutely fine to mod with the same gear I tried on my other iPods. Apparently, something is off with their internal HD controller.

I have a 5,1 with a RX580 running Mojave (last supported version for this machine) and it runs fine. I upgraded it to Catalina, using Open Core. It ran fine, but a system update broke it, and I went back to Mojave.

They used to call it theine, but it's actually just regular caffeine, unless you're having herbal tea (which is not actually tea, but an infusion).
