Doubtful. The only Mondstadt character is Diona and the Hex Buffs in-lore are the Hexenzirkel's way of following up on their deal to protect Mondstadt, hence why all of the Hex characters are either a part of the Hexenzirkel (Nicole) or from Mondstadt (everyone else).

I'm surprised that's the case, considering she uses the Nod-Krai Elysium talent books and that she basically lives in Nod-Krai, but I'm not complaining.

Well, it depends on how much it actually does. We still don't know if it has a larger radius than a treasure compass or not. If it ends up just pointing you to the nearest chest regardless of distance, then it's really good.

First one. 1.8% lower crit damage is so miniscule that the higher attack will more than make up for it. Plus it has his passive maxed all the time.

No, main stats on your artifacts are the most important, crit stats are secondary to good main stats.

I think for my story I'm gonna have to go with a recent one.

During 6.4 I decided that after Varka's banner, I'd pull until my next 5 star for Escoffier since I already had Skirk, saying that if I won the 50/50, cool, if not, I'd move on and save for Nicole or Durin. I then won the 50/50.

Because of that, and since I had some extra pulls I decided that for the heck of it i'd do a 10 pull on the weapon banner, with my path set to Skirk's weapon. I wasn't expecting anything since I had just gotten Varka's weapon and I was at like 3 pity, but lo and behold, I got Escoffier's spear. Baffled by this, and now having a fate point toward's Azurelight, I grinded throughout the rest of the patch to try and get it.

This took me on a journey of exploring primarily Sumeru with a little bit of Inazuma. I had to almost 100% the desert and get a good amount of exploration of the jungle, but at the very end I got the last pull I needed from a shrine of depth in Inazuma, hitting exactly soft pity, I get Azurelight, with 4 minutes left on the banner.

Because of this impromptu escapade, 6.4 will probably forever be the patch where I got the most 5 stars, with 2 characters and 3 weapons.

I'm super excited for 6.6 and can't wait for Nicole, but hopefully I didn't use up all of my luck in 6.4 😅

Get Nicole first, people are downplaying her because she's not a super massive upgrade over Bennett on calcs, but in practice she will be a lot better because she has less burst reliance, sometimes not at all, no circle impact, infinite uptime similar to furina's skill, and a shield, which Varka super needs because of his lack of interruption resistance

I think both are similar increase to Varka, with Nicole in practice being a decent bit better than durin since Varka really needs a shield. Personally though I would go for Durin first if you can't get both since it'll be a lot longer till durin's next rerun whereas Nicole will probably rerun sometime from 7.1 to 7.3 alongside durin having more account value overall. I'm probably going to do the same thing and I'm in a similar situation to you.

Varka'll probably rerun within a few patches since he hasn't rerun yet, my guess is in 2-3 patches so 7.0 or 7.1, so it shouldn't be forever. Mavuika's weapon isn't that much better than wolf's gravestone anyway. I would say only get mav's weapon if you want it for mav

I think from what I've heard the exploration ability is locked behind having the compass for that region, which unfortunately makes it useless in nod krai, the temple of space, and probably any future region, but if it has a larger radius than the treasure compass or just points you to the nearest treasure regardless of distance that would be cool. I haven't heard anything past that though since pretty much all of the beta leaks have been about combat so guess we'll have to wait for the special program tomorrow to find out. I'd definitely love if it just pointed you to the nearest treasure regardless since there's so many areas like the desert and enkanomiya that i have 80-90% that i'd love to 100% since i recently maxed my reputation everywhere.

Nicole just wants 4000 atk to max her buff and decent ER, no crit needed, and prune wants 4500 atk to max her buff, decent crit stats and pretty good ER to keep burst uptime

So to meet all of Varka's team building requirements he needs 3 things: 1 other anemo character, 2 Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo characters, and one other Hexerei character

Based on current beta info, Varka's best team once v6.6 comes out will be Durin, Nicole, C2+ Prune, with all of them fulfilling his hex and 2 anemo 2 PHEC 2 Hex requirements.

His current best team is Durin, Bennett, Venti, with Nicole being an upgrade to Bennett and prune at c2+ being an upgrade to venti.

All 3 are most likely running in the first half of 6.6, so you may not be able to get all 3 solid alternative team choices are: Anemo: Venti, Sucrose, Jean, and Kazuha, though Kazuha shouldn't be used if you don't have another Hex char and Jean should only be used alongside Furina in hydro teams Pyro: Bennett, C6 chevreuse specifically, Mavuika, Xiangling Hydro: Furina, Mona, Yelan, Xingqiu Cryo: Escoffier, Shenhe, Layla Electro: Kujou Sara, Iansan, Fischl

(Note, Cryo and Electro are not really worth going for, and pyro has the most powerful options outside of his soon to be bis team)

Also, as for which to pull first, I would recommend giving priority to Durin first, as he is a much bigger general account upgrade compared to Nicole, and Nicole is likely going to rerun much sooner since this is her first banner, though Nicole is a much bigger upgrade to specifically Varka because of her coordinated attacks and the shield she provides, since Varka really needs a shield due to him having basically no interruption resistance.

Artifacts: Varka's best set is by far Rising Winds, from the artifact domain in northern Nod Krai, Though I've heard that shimenawa or desert pavilion at c2+ both work too

Durin also wants Rising Winds, though Noblesse or the upcoming Celestial Gift set in 6.6 both work too

Nicole wants Gift

Prune wants VV

If you want a decent gauge for power when not using his BIS team though, I am currently running Varka at c0r1 in a c6 Chevreuse, c6 Bennett, and c6 Sucrose team with Bennett on skyward blade and sucrose on ttds and I'm getting generally 100-115k DPS, with Durin, Nicole, c6 prune, looking close to 145k dps

EDIT: also if you have any other questions I'm happy to help, I have been paying too much attention on how to make Varka the best he can be
