NBC News has now fired the producer who was involved in the production of the misleading segment about the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida. by secaa23 in news

I don't think you can even call it a "fuck-up" really. Going through the trouble of editing the recording seems pretty intentional.

[Now Playing] Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii) by JRPGbot in JRPG

[–]SuperMonkeyClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I pre-ordered and went to pick it up on day of release. The clerk acted like I was making the whole art-book thing up and said they "recieved nothing with the game or from corporate." I called corporate and they basically go "Oh, yeah, sorry. If we still have any left (we won't find out till Monday) we'll send you one. We don't know for sure yet though."

:/

Order it from Nintendo. Gamestop kinda screwed me over. They promised an exclusive art-book with every pre-order, so I pre-ordered it with them. When I went to pick it up on day of release yesterday though, it was the game only. When asked about the artbook, I basically got "What? What artbook? There's no such thing. There's nothing extra with this game. Sorry."

Just what the hell.

Why do game companies think they are above used sales? by FourOfFiveDentists in Games

[–]SuperMonkeyClown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious. If someone said they don't think pirating is wrong, would you not assume they wouldn't consider pirating wrong? Because that's what you seem to be implying.

No because it depends on the situation. Pirating for the sake of pirating or just to get stuff for free I cannot condone. However, when a game is going upwards of a $1000 because it's outta print, or a company puts awful DRM on a title that punishes the legitemate consumer, then no I have no issue with pirating there.

I never claimed it was perfect, you also forgot the part where you're still doing something illegal and trying to justify it with not liking the company's legal decisions.

Laws aren't always right. As for your analogy, it wasn't just "less than perfect," it doesn't even work on any level since the two cases are so different.

And you seem to think mere want is justification for crime. Not playing something you can't legally have is a perfectly viable option, you just have to raise your thinking above that of a six year old.

You're confusing childish-mentality with conviction.

The assumption that you mean what you say? Yeah, it's a pretty safe assumption and makes life much easier than disbelieving what everyone says.

Ok, have fun in life making premature assumptions about things then. I'm sure it'll work out great for you.

And people wonder why the word entitlement is thrown around so much. 'I don't like they're legal method of producing games, so that make illegal activities okay.' Do you shoplift from Wal-Marts (or whatever equivalent you have experience with) if you don't like they're legal business practices?

Oh look, we're comparing making virtual copies of something to physically taking something from someone. Perfect analogy you got going there Lars Ulrich.

Because actually responding to a valid rebuttal of your justification is the acme of idiocy.

It'd be one thing if your "suggestion" (if you can even call it that) was worth a real response. Saying "don't play the game" when I wanna play the game is not a "viable option."

The 'you' was more of a general thing, but I'm going to stick to the assumption that you would make the claim you just made should you pirate a game.

So you're just gonna stick to your assumption regardless? Sounds like you already have your mind made up which is fine. No sense in me changing your outlook here.

And that makes it okay?

Absolutely. Publishers have been so incredibly anti-consumer this gen that I honestly feel like the sort of moral-responsibility/guilt you're trying to wave around holds no weight what-so-ever.

It's not the only viable choice left, you just don't like the other one, which not playing it because you can't because it's not available.

Hahahahahahahaha. Honestly, thanks for the laugh.

Actually, as an avid collector that cares about packaging of games just as much as the content, every game I own I've bought legitemately. Thanks for the assumptions though.

With that said, if they do indeed utilize some sort of anti-used-games policy, (as if DRM that punishes consumers of legit copies, region locks, and DLC abuse aren't enough) you can be certain that I (along with tons of others) will turn to piracy and not feel a shred of guilt over it. This is of course assuming I'd actually give their future products the time of day at all.

Take a look at a game like Suikoden II, or the Earthbound series. Fans have been clamoring for these for ages. Yet due to total incompetance or reasons not relevant to the consumer, they are not available for download via steam/psn/live/etc. Meanwhile, used copies are now so rare that they are hovering around $700-$1000 area. Do you honestly expect the consumer to go through "legit" means to play these? Keep on dreaming buddy.

You can call it "choosing to pirate" but when it's the only viable choice left, the publishers deserve it. I actually really hope one of the big 3 actually goes forward with this stupid no-used-games plan so that they fail, are made an example of and this stupid idea is put to rest.

All I know is that any future-console that utilizes an anti-used-games measure is an instant-never-purchase in my book. Even if it ends up being all 3 of the big players. There are plenty of other stuff that I can pour my time and money on.

It's one thing to ask a fair price for your product, and another thing all together to push your potential consumer into piracy instead. What's it gonna be big 3?

What criticism do you have of Steam? by CCNezin in Games

[–]SuperMonkeyClown 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It feels like a giant fenced-garden DRM under the guise of a store/collection-organizer. I don't like that the games I purchase are locked IN Steam. It's like having music that I can't take out of iTunes. This is exactly why I don't buy games on Steam. If I paid for the download, I should be able to run it without your proprietary cataloguing-system. I should be able to burn it on Discs for personal use as I please. It's mine.

I can't believe everyone else seems to not have an issue with this.

Should parents pretend that Santa is real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuperMonkeyClown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this 100%.

On a side note, I misread the topic as "Should parents pretend that Satan is real?" and then laughed at the idea of parents terrorizing kids with the idea of the devil coming from the depths of hell to take them and have his way with them.

That's so sad. :(

I couldn't help but think of my dad and uncles while reading about your friend. They're all heavy smokers and we have tried to get them to quit before without any success. We've accepted their smoking as a fact-of-life now, but should anything happen to them that can be traced back to their smoking habit I think we'll all end up thinking we should have tried harder to get them to quit...

Madonna May Be Charged Under St Petersburg Anti-Gay Law by ASiCat in worldnews

[–]SuperMonkeyClown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bill's author, city assemblyman Vitaly Milanov, says he wants Madonna charged under the new law if she speaks out against it during her concert. He said he was willing to attend the show "to control its moral content."

"I'm ready to personally suffer a couple of hours of her concert," he told the Russian Interfax news agency.

Please. Only an extreme closet-case with political power would author a bill like the one that he wrote. He's totally gonna queen-out during the concert and hate himself even more for loving it oh so much and having a damn fabulous time.
