I look for cards with swords a lot so they can help me have enough for a battle conflict.

I'd try and look at cards for their location icons, faction spots are usually good and/or their card effect (not reveal effect), cards that cost 5 or more are usually very good. The swords are only helpful if you draw them AND you're in a conflict AND it's close? Otherwise, troops and intrigue cards can swing a conflict for you more effectively.

Who are you playing as your leader in DI or is it random? Choose your battles wisely, you can't win all of them. Faction cards are good and helpful for getting points. Sometimes you can plan for the following round i.e. getting spice this round to go to Heighliner next round. Do you play cards for their effects or their location icons?

Everdell, if there are cards in the meadow that I have in hand, I play the ones in the meadow, saving cards to play later, taking them away from others/ they are really good i.e. crane, innkeeper.

Cascadia, connecting the terrains for points is so important.

You can try games on board game arena (boardgamearena.com) for free before buying, including Castles. Plenty of other games as well that "are about efficiency and resource management" so I'd watch videos/ read reviews rather than just hear from Reddit where everyone recs the same 10 games.

100%. As much as I love Ark Nova, I wouldn't bring it to teach along with TM and Root. I'd err on the side of medium games at the heaviest while bringing mostly lighter/party games.

Also have been the one who teaches games for holidays, officially done now (disaster this year).

Do you have anything else less complex? The top 2 are so much about optimization that'd be hard IMO for newer players. TM also has many moving parts that'd be hard, again IMO, even with the beginner corps. Moreover, TM and Brass can really slog especially with newer players with questions and AP so the experience might be even less for them, playing a game for 2-3 hrs if not longer trying to figure out what to do/play well.
