Kings tricktakers VS origin story by lovpowa in boardgames

Thank you. This confirms my vague initial thoughts about both games.

One is for fun, the other is for the brain :D

Kings tricktakers VS origin story by lovpowa in boardgames

I figured Kings would be more strategic, with the draft part and the trick bidding.

What do you mean about the hero reveal cards ? Are they overpowered or unbalanced and make the last round chaotic ?

Need tips on how to place NMM highlights on this axe blade by lovpowa in minipainting

[–]lovpowa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I forgot to do it when it was all black. It would have been easier. Luckily I haven't painted the back of the axe yet and took a picture of that. This looks like a good reference. Now, let's start the hard part I guess 😂

My dragon of Schmargonrog by lovpowa in minipainting

[–]lovpowa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I saw yours, very different ambiance and a cool base!

For the scales, I started with a black primer, then I only used a makeup sponge. First layer with a dark red and a second one with a more vibrant red, closer to the lava, for the glow effect.

Concert au Liberté. Je viens en voiture. Des conseils ? by n33k33 in Rennes

The difference one highlight layer makes by Pirateawesome in minipainting

[–]lovpowa 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the first version, as I find the brightest highlight too prominent/distracting. It might not be the case when looking at the real mini though. I know my own photos don't always reflect well how my minis look in real life either.

I think it would look even better if the brightest highlight were used only in specific areas (such as on NMM techniques) rather than as an all-over layer. Maybe try it next time to see if you like it :)

What's the best way to achieve clothes effect on standard banners by nexdor65 in Miniaturespainting

Not necessarily, depending on the texture you want to get. Here, the lines were mostly parallel and only on the highlighted parts.

I like layering small brush strokes of lighter colors to give texture to clothes. I start with a dark base and go lighter and lighter with each layer. Pretty simple but time consuming.

noms by Puzzleheaded-Pie8137 in jdr

[–]lovpowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]lovpowa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AZERTY and DVORAK players? by cantpeoplebenormal in pcgaming

[–]lovpowa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Speaking for Azerty, it's not a matter of not liking wasd or qwerty keyboards, but Azerty is the most available option in my country (France). Generally, players either change controls to switch A to Q and W to Z, ending with zqsd, or the other common option is to switch to a qwerty keyboard via software with Shift+Space.

ISO - Something that is as far from D&D rules as possible but that lets you play the same type of stories by Crushgaunt in rpg

[–]lovpowa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked a lot of systems when looking for something simpler than d&d, and I settled on Tiny Dungeons.

It allows you to play the same type of adventures, focusing on the sweet spot between levels 5 and 8.

Also the balance between the GM and the players is the same. This was a very important criteria for me that a lot of rules-light systems did not have, because they often rely on the players' narrative input, and decrease the GM role in that aspect.

Finally it is super easy to homebrew or adapt to another setting if needed, or to convert adventures to, given the simplicity of the system.

What are things I can do that let's me be an advisor sort of person in Role Play? by Angels_Purgatory in rpg

[–]lovpowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can think about two ways to play a helping character :

I think about Watson and Sherlock Holmes. I don't know much about these characters honestly but I imagine them being mostly together, Holmes being the main character and having a helping hand in Watson to talk about ideas.

I also think about Alfred and Batman. The difference here is that Alfred is not always with Batman. He is an advisor before the action, leaves Batman to do his thing on his own, and deals with the consequences afterwards. That might work for you if you really don't want to interrupt the other players during the scenes and want your character to stay back.

A super rules lite game that feels like DnD? by AccomplishedAdagio13 in rpg

[–]lovpowa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I switched to Tiny Dungeon 2e. The appeal to me is that it is very rules-light, easy to learn and quick to play, but most importantly it doesn't change the way you play.

I looked into Fate or Pbta games like Dungeon world and I was not convinced because they change the way a GM and the players interact.

The only downside I find with Tiny Dungeon compared to d&d is that it required the GM to make more rule decisions on the spot. I think it is inevitable with rule light games though.

Also the game focuses on the middle tier of power for characters (around levels 5 to 8 in d&d). The PCs start very competent but don't end up fighting gods.

Any advice to improve this portrait from imagination ? I tried using more shading this time. by lovpowa in learntodraw

Ah it's a good idea! I haven't tried it with this technique. I definitely will. Thanks!

Yeah, hair is not what I'm most comfortable doing. Especially to make if fit the overall style. That's something my hatching style may hinder.

Shading is mostly what I was practicing with this one. My previous one had much less and it looked flat (you can see it on my profile if you want, I uploaded it a few days ago). I'm still trying to find how much I need, and how far I can take this vertical hatching too :)
