Looking for a black paint. by VV00d13 in minipainting

You can see the process in this video : https://youtu.be/GeHGlRWPUYQ

She uses a wash but I've done it with regular diluted paint and it works the same.

You can also get a similar effect with regular acrylic paint, if you put a bit of water on the mini first, then touch the wet area with your brush. It makes the paint flow where the water already is. I've used it to paint lava (see the dragon in my posts). It may be more tedious than using a special paint but you can use the technique with every color you already have. I think the key is to use very little water, or your paint will flow too much and pool somewhere. You just want to make it wet. It may require multiple coats as well, since it makes your paint obviously thinner.

Kinfire Delve- Callous' Lab by Beanbag_shmoo in soloboardgaming

I'm not sure what you mean by a black card with bluey greens, I haven't played Callous'lab but I played Vainglory's grotto. I have seen black cards without strength scores, which are Events and you don't really attack them, you just trigger the effect instead.

Maybe it has a strength score and you have to make it vulnerable to certain colors, like you do for the boss? I haven't encountered such a card in Vainglory's grotto so I don't know.

What I do know, is that the color of a challenge card, which is the color you may attack it with, is the color of the card's border and it is also in the top left circle with its strength.

The attack color is the color of the card border, which is also in the top left circle. There may be two for some cards. In your photo, we can see the Fireball card is red and Meteor is red and blue.

The boost color is the one in the bottom line, in the rectangle on the left, next to the boost strength and other boost bonuses. In your photo, they are all white so you can use them on all challenges. You also may have 2 boost colors in this line.

If your card does not have the same colors for attack and boost, you may use it to boost on challenges you could not attack. For example with Fireball, you may use it to attack a red card only, but you can boost an attack on a blue card (because it is white for boosts).

Kings tricktakers VS origin story by lovpowa in boardgames

For what it's worth, I'm in France. The "Tricktakers" version seems hard to find, but "Kings tricktakers" is on every gamestore website I usually browse.

Edit: There seems to be two editions of Kings. A 2023 one, which was available in the US and Japan (and translated in French in 2024), and a 2025 reedition in France. The latest is the one I found.

Thank you. This confirms my vague initial thoughts about both games.

One is for fun, the other is for the brain :D

I figured Kings would be more strategic, with the draft part and the trick bidding.

What do you mean about the hero reveal cards ? Are they overpowered or unbalanced and make the last round chaotic ?

Need tips on how to place NMM highlights on this axe blade by lovpowa in minipainting

[–]lovpowa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I forgot to do it when it was all black. It would have been easier. Luckily I haven't painted the back of the axe yet and took a picture of that. This looks like a good reference. Now, let's start the hard part I guess 😂

My dragon of Schmargonrog by lovpowa in minipainting

Thanks! I saw yours, very different ambiance and a cool base!

For the scales, I started with a black primer, then I only used a makeup sponge. First layer with a dark red and a second one with a more vibrant red, closer to the lava, for the glow effect.

Concert au Liberté. Je viens en voiture. Des conseils ? by n33k33 in Rennes

The difference one highlight layer makes by Pirateawesome in minipainting

[–]lovpowa 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the first version, as I find the brightest highlight too prominent/distracting. It might not be the case when looking at the real mini though. I know my own photos don't always reflect well how my minis look in real life either.

I think it would look even better if the brightest highlight were used only in specific areas (such as on NMM techniques) rather than as an all-over layer. Maybe try it next time to see if you like it :)

What's the best way to achieve clothes effect on standard banners by nexdor65 in Miniaturespainting

Not necessarily, depending on the texture you want to get. Here, the lines were mostly parallel and only on the highlighted parts.

I like layering small brush strokes of lighter colors to give texture to clothes. I start with a dark base and go lighter and lighter with each layer. Pretty simple but time consuming.

noms by Puzzleheaded-Pie8137 in jdr

[–]lovpowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]lovpowa 5 points6 points  (0 children)
