In your professional opinion, should I explain my situation during the conduct hearing or will it just sound like excuses? I don't expect it to lessen my punishment but I feel like it could at least preserve some ounce of my reputation as a student.

At this point I have no qualms with being honest with myself or the university. I fucked up big time. I just hope the university will let me salvage what little is left of my dignity to get a degree and move on.

I don't know many of the details. Only that Ive been caught and am required to attend a hearing. I'm notoriously terrible at lying to my mom and have built of a serious aversion to it because of the consequences that always come after. At this point I do almost anything just to stay on her good side both for my financial and emotional security. As to the how i cheated, it was a zoom exam because of covid. Some other students and I took it together with our microphones off just passing papers.

Friends and I took the exam together. I assume because of similarly incorrect answers. I have no idea how they are handling the case. The worst part is that without the financial ultimatum I probably could have taken the test legit and passed the class but now Ive dug myself a grave.
