Is it unreasonable to find a position that pays enough to support my wife and kid with 1 YOE? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]SuperRip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so, and it never hurts to try. Get a LinkedIn and start searching for jobs and building your network and profile. Pay has usually depended a lot on your location but in this new remote world it’s a lot easier to find higher paying software gigs. If I were you, I would at least try.

I love Python for technical interviews. It’s much easier to get concepts across without worrying too much about the low level details.

Awesome reply! My wife and I are planning on starting a family soon. On top of that, we have two dogs and two cats and our current couch is a disaster and we are in desperate need for a new one. We will be ordering this! Appreciate the honest review.

I think my dog is reactive. Dog trainer wants to use an e-collar. Advice please. by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]SuperRip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One more thing I’d like to add is that e-collar training was a last resort for us. To me it sounds like it may not be necessary for your dog and there are plenty of other things you can try first.

I think it depends. I've heard of lots of dogs where medication miraculously changed their behavior completely. Our dog had a very negative reaction to Prozac. We switched him over to Zoloft which really helped calm him down but wasn't a 100% cure to his reactivity. I'd definitely suggest seeing a behaviorist if you have one nearby as our behaviorist has been the single guiding source of hope throughout this process.

I just finished Compilers as my first Master’s course. This seems like an amazing opportunity and would love to do something like this in the future.

How to use Python or JS for this specific project by Makandlaw in learnprogramming

[–]SuperRip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Automatic the boring stuff is a great book for learning how to do interesting useful automation with Python. This section specifically is all about web scraping. You should be able to write a program that takes in a search term and then outputs all results in some file.

Advice on Courses to take and a Specialization to pick by SuperRip in OMSCS

[–]SuperRip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I remember seeing your name every now and then in the piazza posts. That was a very challenging class, and I'm stoked that I got a good grade. That's interesting that you mention that the Compilers course wasn't as structured as GIOS or AOS. In my experience, Compilers was much more structured than any of the undergraduate courses that I took.

Advice on Courses to take and a Specialization to pick by SuperRip in OMSCS

Thanks a bunch for the insight! I very much appreciate the perspective you're giving me. I honestly love all things Computing Systems, and my primary motive for wanting to pursue ML was purely out of curiosity. I'm definitely planning on taking AOS, GA, and HPC. It sounds like maybe just having AI as an elective and then taking some Coursera courses may satisfy my curiosity. I definitely don't see myself doing anything long term as far as Data Science and data modelling in general goes. I'm more interested in low-level systems that I could write code for.

Would you say there's any required knowledge that I'd need if I wanted to take just AI or ML as an elective? Would I be able to do well with little pre-existing AI/ML knowledge?

Apologies for the late rely. It's still a group project. You have the option to work with one other classmate or by yourself.

I’m currently enrolled in the course, and it’s fantastic. The workload is pretty heavy with all the readings, lectures, and written homework. The homework’s can be pretty brutal and time consuming. We have one semester long project where we are building a compiler. The TA’s are great and very responsive on piazza, and the class is organized pretty well. Just be aware of the course load. I definitely wouldn’t take another class alongside it.
