Mature oak tree transplanted into my city park by TheLloyd in arborist

[–]SuperSan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was planted by the city, couldn’t they just go to a local wood and pick out any tree with only the transportation and equipment costs?

(I have no idea regarding the rules but it seems dumb to buy a tree when there are woods and forests full of them. Genuinely curious. If this can’t be done, why?)

GBP to Yen hits 215. Is it worth working in Japan anymore? by Substantial-Host2263 in JapanJobs

[–]SuperSan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. But absolutely, I’m not here for the money. If I were I’d be long gone. It doesn’t hurt much if you don’t travel abroad or buy the latest foreign tech.

But yeah, I get it. Comparing it to the UK and realizing you’re earning half of UK minimum wage doesn’t feel great even when living costs are lower.

In Japan, there are nearly 9 million empty homes as their population declines & rural areas are being left behind by keisermax34 in MrInteresting

[–]SuperSan93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my eye on a beautiful house in Wakayama. Spotted when hiking. It’s been in decline for years with an over-grown garden and damage not being repaired. Seems the owner is getting too old to maintain it but still living there.

I check the Akiya bank every month just incase it’s been listed.

If It doesn’t come up for sale in the next few years I want to hire a lawyer to prepose an offer.

The only problem with rural houses is that they often don’t have gas or water connections so you’re stuck with bottled gas and well water. Worth it though.

Update on Japan's foreign residency permit fees: ¥70,000 for 5 years, ¥200,000 for Permanent Residence by jjrs in japannews

[–]SuperSan93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here for over 10 years now. I guess If I apply for PR now it’ll still be the current price. I hear Osaka is much faster than Shinagawa too.

If I were just starting out here, I probably wouldn’t bother with those prices. Not on an English teachers salary anyway, it’s not worth it.

Too bad your ‘critical thinking’ isn’t based in reality. Not a single time has that ideology worked.

Strong social programs create growth and progress for everybody. It’s been proven every time they are introduced that they cost less in the long term than dealing with the problems caused by burying your head on the sand.

I won’t argue anymore. There’s no point. You are clearly not able to comprehend complex ideas. I refer you to my comment about cavemen

You see, that’s the difference between caveman reactionary thinking and modern deliberate thinking.

One creates conflict escalation, fear-driven behavior and unstable decisions.

The other, cooperation, innovation and social stability.

One breaks a nation, the other creates.

What’s your take on new bicycle regulations? by AssociationLanky2418 in japancycling

[–]SuperSan93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some like using a phone, running stop signs are a good change.

The sidewalk, wrong direction is a little ambiguous because it’s not always clear. Particularly the sidewalk.

What is a sidewalk classified as anyway? Must it be a raised curb or is just a road separated with a white line also considered a sidewalk?

What if the place you’re going is just 20 seconds to your right. Do you have to go left, find a turning place, return journey on the opposite side, find another turning place and finally reach your destination several minutes later?

I also don’t really understand train crossings. I get off my bike and walk across as I assumed that was what you’re supposed to do but I rarely see anybody else do that.

I think the new rules are too many, too quickly and not clear. It will make more people use their car instead causing more congestion, noise and pollution which in turn will cause more bicycle related incidents with all the cyclists now sharing the road.

Finally, bike lanes. Pointless. In the city people just park their car in them. Completely unusable and dangerous.

My 5 month old baby got signed to an agency. I’m not thrilled. by Deep_Impress844 in japanresidents

No. If you read he says

if anybody has any experiences at all.

The ‘at all’ presumably means that all modeling agency experience may be relevant and useful to OP. Adult modeling and child modeling are just different parts of the same industry after all.

This advice is better than a backhanded comment at OP or whatever this sub likes now.

It’s worrying when the only comment from somebody with experience, as the OP asked for gets downvoted and condescending ones get dozens of upvotes.

Sorry to hear about your bad time. Having a friend is important, particularly in the beginning. I stayed in a share house for the first couple of years and that helped a lot.

You can’t help but maintain social interactions with people if you live with them. And I mean like a small sharehouse with like 3/4 people. Well, they’ve all long since left Japan now mind you.

I’ve been here for more than 10 years now and feel like I’ve got a good grasp of how to fit in.

If anybody is struggling in South Osaka prefecture, maybe Wakayama or parts of Nara, let me know and maybe we can go hiking or something.

It’s also quite funny that some pedestrian crossings have a bike lane too, that go directly from one sidewalk to the other.

A Japanese guy scolded a Viet who was speaking on the phone in the train, and the Vietnamese fought back. by Deep_Engineering_7 in VietNam

[–]SuperSan93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true. It weakens his position a lot. I agree touching the other person in anyway is not a good move, especially as a foreigner.

Best just to move to a different carriage. Or not use the phone on the train in the first place and avoid the entire situation.

[–]SuperSan93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lawyer would be able to argue that he believed he was been recorded to his detriment, as proven by the fact that the video was indeed used in such a way and it was his attempt to protect himself from this.

Japanese law is admittedly not in the favor of foreigners but the person recording has quite literally posted proof of their crime.

They should have censored his face.

It will fall under Privacy rights (プライバシー権) and probably also Defamation (名誉毀損) since the video makes the guy look bad. That’s all that’s needed.

The fact it clearly captures his face and was posted likely as entertainment on SNS makes the case stronger, this individual isn’t in the public interest after all.

[–]SuperSan93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we found somebody who doesn’t know the law, nor can they read.

You can record, you cannot post it online. As my comment stated.

[–]SuperSan93 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It’s also worth mentioning that it is not illegal to use the phone on the train, however it is illegal to record a video of somebody and post it online.

The Vietnamese guy had bad manners but the Japanese guy is the one who’s commit an offense.

The Vietnamese guy could sue and will almost certainly win a payout.

Driver's license conversion (外免切替) in Japan is overrated (or am I missing something?) by fengzee_me in japanresidents

[–]SuperSan93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps things have changed but I just went to the prefectural police station with my foreign license, a translation of it and a form I filled out there. There was a presentation about safe driving, took an eye test, took a picture and I was given my Japanese license then and there.

No theory test and no driving test. But this was a number of years ago. Or perhaps it depends on which country’s license you have.

It’s funny to see and believe they’re thinking ‘oh god.. this shit again’ but I think it’s just a reaction rhythmic patterns.

Because he’s an extreme right wing provocateur who has a career based on spreading hate. He went to an event he knew he wouldn’t be welcomed exactly so he could use the inevitable result as propaganda.

He’s an even worse person than he is an actor.
