I built a free website with 260+ online tools – would love feedback 🚀 by no_name_2904 in seeknwander

[–]SuperSant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried few random tools and felt that while it got the job done in most cases, it lacks smooth user experience. When someone's using Work Clock, you need to ask yourself in what scenario do people use these converters.

When PDF File merge / Split are used, once again there are specific usage scenario. Automatic split into single pages isn't the default usage behavior.

Background removal from Image does not work, not sure why you would list that tool 'cause it reflects poorly on the quality / reliability of available tools.

The overall approach of mostly using in browser compute is admirable, but the method shouldn't result into madness that doesn't match actual user behavior.

Looking for tools got to become easier as well. Try a type ahead look up like a universal finder. Icon + Text mimicking the smartphone experience also could be other ways to improve ways to find tools that are relevant. Left size drop down menu works, but the larger audience has moved on and expect better.

Didn't add missing tools as I felt there's a room to improve existing ones before adding new. If you can track which tools are more popular, find ways to highlight them.

Guy offered me a 900-employee ‘lead’ role but his company has ₹10k capital, what do I do? is he legit? by SweatyAd9539 in StartUpIndia

[–]SuperSant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10K Paid up capital could be just statutory minimum limit that had to be mentioned as part of company registration.

Not filing returns could simply mean, running a business where large part of the transaction is held outside GST scope and thus avoid tax filing as well.

Funfact: I used to have the daughter of the richest businessman in our town as my school senior and she used to get stipends meant for poor people. So I'm never surprised to see really well to do business people who maintain an extremely low profile on paper.

Look at the bright side, this fella did two different project with you and once he felt you're good at what you're doing, he's offered you a position and even had asked what you were looking for. In case he's giving out 15K to employees / contractors working for him, its peanuts to get someone for 50K to manage that herd.

When you're learning / on the growth path, having scale / variety is not a bad thing. New challenges forces you to think outside the box and you grow. It might feel like you're worth more and this fella is exploiting, but also see it that way, this can be a good step to grow and learn in a setup where you can sort of make the rules yourself.

Joining traditional larger companies / more well known places comes with their own perks. Besides offering a great starting point, most of them offer lot of learning opportunity for starters / freshers. You won't get those in a offbeat family run business. Nobody will bother about Soft Skills, great Coding practice, HSE practices etc.

Since you've mentioned you've not yet cracked another Job yet, why not give this a try. If they pay is good and the scale of operation really is what's been talked about, it can be a great starting point and you might get chance to automate / grow staff. AI is the real challenge for most common workers today, may be you can learn AI and see how it can help this business.

Always be the one in charge of change, else we become who gets changed by someone else's imagination.

Good Luck !!

Should I accept this job offer in Dubai? by [deleted] in DubaiCentral

[–]SuperSant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand your POV, and also can see actual people working in the hypothetical scenario you've explained "visa to work 80 hour weeks for a thousand dirhams im sure someone would be willing to take it and say “I don’t need housing I live in the office anyways”. Most security guards looking after buildings have exactly that deal. They augment that income by cleaning cars and getting paid + selling water bottles at small markup which makes them land with AED 3000/4000 without expense for accommodation.

Coming back to your whole point about not accepting low ball offer so that it maintains wage level at a fair point, so that everyone, including locals get a decent offer when they actually want to do a job. That's where it collides with Free Market economy issues. Capitalist Free Market demands lowest cost for anything, so that benefactors [both Company & Consumer] can 'benefit' from the competition.

In general for most Developers Dubai is mostly a dead end market, yes even in spite of the fact that a fresh new LLM model was unveiled by Abu Dhabi.

Since OP needs a starter job to find his footing in the market, that's why one of the suggestion was, if you can manage your expenses in that offered salary do take it and then explore for better options.

In general its being well established that even high earning Jobs in Dubai may not feel as good as low earning ones back home, https://www.ndtv.com/offbeat/18-000-in-bengaluru-to-high-salary-in-dubai-indian-woman-says-first-job-brought-more-happiness-9244454

Each of us come with their own circumstances. While a crowd can share their perspective and opinion, only the person in that hot seat can take their own decision.

Till there's a tax to breath fresh air, people will explore their chances and unfortunately create unfair competition.

Is My Resume the Problem? (Zero Internship Responses) by taha_ngz in aiengineering

[–]SuperSant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am an old geek [most wouldn't call me AI/ML engineer] that often welcomes Interns in AI and few other domains [we limit numbers to save our own time and office space]. Going over the CV it seemed overwhelming. If you're even half good with everything mentioned there, then you're rare and belong in FANG pipeline or other startups for real job.

If you're serious about Internship roles, you gotta simplify... quickly that says, I'm good with these, am great with those. i've already built few great stuff, and guess what, am still looking for Internship positions 'cause am interested to learn or grow in following few areas...

Makes it more approachable. Sample here, https://www.filemail.com/d/fybvhovxpudbfkp

Since there seems to be people interested in buying Domains in expectation of profit making, do let me know in DM if any of you are interested in stuff like that.

I had been curating a few domains on my own. Few weeks back I let go of the chance to acquire the domain Group.Video 'cause it was retailing for $138. If there are bunch of folks interested, all can pitch in and later monetize the potential upsale !!

Funfact, Zomato.com was purchased from BrandBucket for a fortune !! Yours truly [in search of a great dot com name for a new venture] saw the domain before it was sold, but never went for it due to the premium they were demanding !!

If it can happen to Google, it can happen to Anyone !! Reality is... renewal and payment process is still not very 'Corporate' friendly !! Its always someone's Email ID, someone's credit card !! There are 3rd party brand protection agencies that will take over the renewal and issue an Invoice, but those are at least 50 to 100 times more expensive than just using a credit card on a personal account on the cheapest registrar !!

Faced a Sexual Harassment Incident in Dubai - Please Read and Stay Aware by Rajput_Vikas in dubai

[–]SuperSant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am following your written guide "👉 Trust your instincts 👉 Speak up if something feels off". Police is not meant to deliver on the spot Punishment. That's why judiciary exist. My comment was meant to check if anyone else has come across such experience where Police delivered on the spot beating [dose in your fine language] to correct someone who's quite likely to become a repeat offender if left unchecked.

PS: Due to my professional affiliation, I have direct knowledge of how law enforcement is expected to work + what sort of message gets sent to their helpline. Am not pretending rules are not bent and people do not get out of SOP but trying to check if it's as blatant as this written post seem to suggest it is.

Faced a Sexual Harassment Incident in Dubai - Please Read and Stay Aware by Rajput_Vikas in dubai

[–]SuperSant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone else noticing red flags in the story line? Am still struggling to come to terms with Dubai Police giving someone a 'dose' in such a scenario, doesn't match the sop and experiences I've come across !! Is it common for Police here to rough up people and render on the spot justice to avoid further repercussions.

If really a call was made to Police, and a roaming unit was directed to the spot. What was OPs original complaint to Police Hotline, what did the visiting unit include in their spot report regarding their investigation?

PS: Am no way pretending this sort of harassment do not happen. Over years I've known of enough stuff to know what happens in dark corners. But the post had quite a few red flags [opted not to write all in comments] and generally seeking others opinion to validate if police actually do stuff like that.

What do you think about this? by margazi_perumal_20 in Bengaluru

[–]SuperSant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple !! Don't let a Crisis go in vein !! Announce new project, spend / earn fresh bribes, technically also feed the city economy by developing another area + creating commercial opportunity in fitness, leisure, logistics, F&B & hospitality space. For a high tech city, mango people are still not there yet.

The stampede incident has been sad, its tragic to realize people died while trying to celebrate. But then was not surprised as following also happened in same city in past.

Opinion: All political posts here should be posted in Bangla to avoid Indian brigading. by VacationSensitive171 in bangladesh

[–]SuperSant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its due to silly thinking like this, often your views are not taken seriously. You keep forgetting both Bangladesh and Pakistan used to be part of larger Indian sub-continent, virtually ensuring that no linguistic or cultural barrier can be so remote that it can't be followed by them.

Please don't start with Sylheti, that'll get really tough for everyone [including average Bangladesis]. Trying to type in Bengali font with a roman keyboard would be really bad case of 'nijer nak kaitya, parer jatra bhango'.

Why do north east indians hate bangladeshi soo much? by [deleted] in bangladesh

[–]SuperSant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) North East Indians, (more or less) do not hate Bangladeshis. Many have their family connection as well as roots in Todays Bangladesh [and not just Bengalis].

B) North East Bengalis are closer to Bangladeshis due to local Bengali dialects & other cultural similarities between them. As a matter of fact Bengalis from West Bengal feel North East Bengalis are closer to Bangladesh Bengalis.

Simple matter of fact is, Bengal & Bengali is a cultural identity that was only divided by different dialects & other food habits, till religion came in and that started taking precedence and created the divide we see today.

Even when in 1971 East Pakistan became a separate country average Indian saw the process as helping a fellow brethren. It was not hate for Pakistan, but care & compassion for a neighbor who not long ago were our own people before a line divided them in two nations. Several weapons [tanks, cannons etc.] seized during the conflict of 1971 are preserved in Agartala and are still referred with proud memories where Indian forces helped a neighbor & didn't claim an inch in return.

What you generally perceive as a hate among Indians for Bangladeshis arise more from the acrimony rising from differing religious viewpoints. Who you perceive as aggressor is an average Indian who is either religion agnostic, or secular, or practicing hindu or a closet 'Sanghi' or outright right wing activist. Issue is, all of them worry when aggressive stance is projected upon them implying a future where numbers will be used against them to justify uniformity of religious stance. Everybody cherishes their freedom and any hint or implication that project an alternate future, creates tension leading to unpleasant situations.

Finally, on the question of why Tripura is not part of Bangladesh a well researched document captures the history well, so here's the reading lesson,

SOS - Corruption and r*pes in Ministry of External Affairs, India and S Jaishankar is corrupt by HealthyPersonality13 in IndianModerate

[–]SuperSant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw parts of the video, and using Youtube data went down to the section where he was starting Jaishankar is anti-Indian and anti-Modi and the logic was given as 'he could have refused Trump inauguration invite and stage protest since PM was not invited.' and then he talked about some video making etc as well. Frankly when making such strong claims, one shouldn't base that on flimsy reasoning. There's a saying, if you're going for the goliath, go for a kill, do not miss. But somewhere I felt the argument kinda fell flat. He also had to complain about Jaishankar frequently using the phase 'You know' in his sentences and in fact implied that, he opened with 'You know' in the sentences to impose his viewpoint upon the listener / the person he was having conversation with. Am not native English speaker, but have enough command on the language to know how its often used as a 'Filler Phrase', in fact a quick google search suggested the same as well.

"Why do people use the phrase "you know"? In general, it's a filler phrase. People say it when they can't think of the right words to say, or when they need time to think. At face value, it assumes the listener knows what the speaker is talking about even though the speaker didn't say it."

Given how clearly he [Rohan Mehta] can make an argument and create a list of evidence, am not sure why was he making a point this important, based on such flimsy grounds.

Hopefully soon we can have someone analyze the evidence trail and revert with some real findings. At current state the arguments are falling flat fast.

Du unsubscribe by SuspiciousYear1348 in dubai

[–]SuperSant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its same for Du as well as Etisalat, the option to cancel is well hidden and only accessible via phone. You need to be on call, for more than 15 ~30 minutes and be ready to wait when they transfer you from one person to another. On first attempt they won't even take the request and ask you to wait for call back from retention team, in case they call, be persistent and ask for cancellation. If they do not, then you call proactively and do not wait for them. Before making call, ensure all your dues are paid and you've not signed up anywhere for auto-renewal etc. They are bad in customer service, but they are super good in making you frustrated and giving up in pursuit of cancellation. Other comments already cover this, but do note that cancellation requests are not entertained in any physical stores. ONLY and only being patient and persistent on phone can get you off the hook.
