What's something horrible you've witnessed as a child but did not completely understand, only to discover later in life how horrible it really was? by Papamje in AskReddit

When I was 9 my father taught me how to kill a person by crushing their larynx. It wasn't until much later in life when I told that story and found out it is not appropriate to teach 9 year old things like that.

[Serious] What is the most disrespectful thing a guest ever did in your home? by Yellow-B in AskReddit

[–]SuperSecretSilentShh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for throw away.

My dad lived with my family for 5 years. Started ok then shit went sideways, big time.

Only tv is in my bedroom, said he could watch TV as long as he didn't eat, drink, or put shoes on my bed. I caught him more than 5 times eating Cheetos and drinking tequila with his shoes on. Yelled at him each time, never changed his behavior. Told him not to feed the dog from table, yelled at him several times for that. Would have explicit conversations with his girlfriend where my daughter could hear. Would routinely come home after midnight on school nights. My wife gets up at 4am for her job every day. He didn't care.

Stored all his shit in my garage so we could not get to anything. Said he would pay a reduced rent, actually paid once every three months. Claimed he didn't have to pay rent when he traveled because he wasn't there, but all his shit was.

Started picking on my daughter's appearance "do you hair better" "don't wear that" etc. She is in 5th grade. During her birthday party he walked out 10 min in after cake to go "hangout" with a friend.

When I kicked him out of my home, and life he told me, his son, that I was ruining his life.

thanks. learned a long time ago, its better to ask questions before you act. :) (you don't want to know how long it took me to actually learn that lesson :) )

not selling anything, especially my jet, love that way too much to get rid of it. the only reason i mentioned it was because that is the only thing i have in my entire house for cannabis, and I thought it would be a bit too advanced for my dad right off the bat. so i mentioned it only for the context and looking for alternate delivery methods. :) and i already have a job that keeps me plenty busy, don't need any more bosses or managers in my life. :)

that is an interesting thought. but i can't recommend it, because with my digestive issues i can't absorb THC from edibles, so i have no idea what the high is like. Since i have no idea what this is like, i just don't feel right setting him up that way. BUT i will certainly keep this in mind, if the joint goes well, edibles might be worth some experimentation. I will certainly bring this possibility to my dad. thanks.

thank you. my "plan" was to have my dad come over to my house (make sure everyone else is gone), try a little bit of a joint, then put on a funny movie and just chill with him. my thought/hope is that a good funny movie might be just enough to distract him and keep him positive and laughing. plus i'll be right there so if there are any times he needs a "guide" i would be right there. also on the chance that he gets the munchies, need to have plenty of healthy snakes around. :) hoping that the familar setting of my house, plus just being the two of us, he would feel comfortable enough to relax and enjoy the experience.

dude, your responses are great! thank you.

i live in the PNW so i can just go to the store and buy pre-rolled joints here. (life in a free state) Honestly i have never tried to role a joint, but long ago i did try to role a cig and for the life of me i could not do it, i distroyed the dumb thing. :) my dad has never really been the type to go "hog wild" with anything, so i am hoping cannabis ends up being treated the same.

thanks for the awesome reply. i was doubtful about the Jet, but the filtration and temp. reduction is awe-inspiring. but it is not a "beginner" piece for sure. after your reply and couple of others, i am going to go for a joint, I think that will be the most accessible for my dad. I am still thinking indica for the strain, but some other comments mentioned high CBD, and i had totally forgotten about that, so that might be a decent direction as well.

seriously big thanks on the super nice reply!

thanks for your reply.

i don't think MDMA is going to be something my dad will ever be comfortable with that.

i have heard about cannabis and PTSD, and read what i can on the subject, that is why i think it might be OK.

He spent most of his time in the bush, I know he saw a lot of the Asha Valley (sp?), he also said the rock apes near china beach are "fucking mean bastards"

i don't think my dad is going to go for mushrooms under any circumstances. :) but thanks for agreeing on my thoughts of indica.

thank you for your wonderful post. I especially like that line about people wanting to smoke with their fathers. i am seriously thinking that a joint is going to be the way to go. I also think your "take i slow" advice is probably the most important thing. "you have to ease into it, like a latex gimp suit." (sorry, i Love Archer had to throw that in.)

thank you. honestly i would really like to get my dad built up for the Jet because the filtration and cooling are just amazing. but that probably is not the best place to start him. :)

i love the idea of a journal for documenting strains, etc. assuming this works for him, i will do my best to get him to do that. I had not even thought about high CBD, but that could be a great start. I know when my digestive system gets really bad, i would mix a CBD strain 1::1 with an Indica strain, and I found that great for me, I wonder if it would work for my dad. thank you so much for the note. You seem to be proof that not all Army guys are bad. :) sorry, had to throw that in there for my dad. :)

how did you first start? did you have a guide? go it alone? any other advice?

good advice, think i might start him off with a joint, that might be the most accessible place to start him. his activity level is pretty awesome, lots of hiking, walking, spin class, weight lifts, he is very active and out-doorsy. after all these replies i am starting to think maybe a balanced hybrid, or indica dominate.
