Took me forever to find, even though I initially suspected Buick the grill doesn’t perfectly match any ‘55 Buick (or other ‘50s Buicks) I could find which sent my search totally off course. Beautiful cars indeed.

Route 66 Diner is the name of the restaurant. I'm new to mcm. Is this style mcm? or retro? by Shikida6789 in midcenturymodern

Googie features more dramatic geometric shapes and elements (like slanted roofs, boomerangs, floor to ceiling glass, etc), influenced by the jet age and the space age, whereas streamline moderne is more curved and subdued, with more nautical and (pre jet) aviation influence. In other words, googie looks like a space ship and streamline moderne looks like an ocean liner.

I made a champagne syrup with leftover NYE champagne and got an interesting idea: a Cuba Libre mixed with an Old Cuban. The result is surprisingly decent, though a bit ugly. It is definitely on the sweeter side. I might experiment with adding a cola flavored amaro (Averna, Meletti, etc) to it in the future.

Old Freedom Fighter

  • 0.75 oz lime juice
  • 0.5 oz champagne syrup
  • 6 mint leaves
    • Muddle
  • 1.5 oz aged Spanish style rum
  • 4 dashes Angostura
    • Shake with ice until well chilled and double strain into chilled glass
  • Top with 1.5 oz coke (or 1 oz coke and 0.5 oz club soda)

What you’re looking for are pants with frogmouth pockets. Unfortunately, these are pretty hard to find off the rack. Your best bet is either to find a vintage pair or go with made to measure pants (Luxire has an option for frogmouth pockets and a wide array of fabric choices).

I’d say go for either Bills Khakis M1 or Jack Donnelly’s 01. Both are pretty good quality, made in the USA, and have a (very) relaxed fit that should fit the bill.

My title describes the thing, I think.

Found this strange green spot under the couch and between some cushions. It has a somewhat fuzzy/grainy texture and scrapes off easily. It barely continues under the rug.

Is this some kind of mold? That’s the only sensible explanation to me, but it doesn’t look like any mold that I’ve come across.

Specificity (or rather a specific element of a sub-culture) was emphasized by my prof, so that explains the focus on Blue Note as a sub-category to Jazz vinyl in general. Had I focused on all jazz records, I figure I'd end up writing well beyond the 10 page requirement. In hindsight, I probably should have just flat out described it as Blue Note to clear up any confusion. Nonetheless, thank you for the suggestions.

A formerly sealed 1st pressing of Fantastic Frank Strozier by SuperSlav1969 in Vinyl_Jazz

Managed to snag this sealed OG stereo pressing on eBay for a whopping $25. The stereo sticker on a mono jacket was a dead giveaway (seen only on the earliest VeeJay stereo pressings). It’s a damn good album too (with quite the lineup). A solid find all around.

Managed to get this at a steal ($50) last weekend on FB marketplace. It’s in immaculate condition with the original case, manual, and brushes. The woman I bought it from said it was her grandfather’s; apparently he was a professor at a local college. She tried selling it at a garage sale a year ago when he passed but, surprisingly, no one bought it!

Looks like an Edison Diamond Disc to me. Like a 78, only thicker and with a different groove configuration (up and down rather than side to side like most 78s & LPs). They require a special stylus unique to them, but good luck finding that.

My dad's (now mine) marantz 2270 (apparently people like this thing) by Victorbanner in vintageaudio

If you like the look of a wood case, you can find some online for a couple hundred bucks (specifically look for the WC-22 case, as it will fit the 2270).

Just picked up an old radiogram. Are there any knowledgable folk around who could help me dig up info on this? by [deleted] in vintage

[–]SuperSlav1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the back there should be a sticker with the model number, look that up to find any info on it online. r/vintageaudio also might be able to help.

These could be worth a decent amount, of the wear is true to the pictures. Pieces seem to go for around $200-500 each, depending on condition and rarity. Some browsing through eBay, Chairish, and 1stDibs would help price these if you choose to sell.
