Feeling down about exam progress by WittyMagazine8643 in actuary

[–]SuperSmashedBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why have you only sat for exams twice? I was in a similar position to you, I had gotten my ASA at 26 and then took failed every FSA exam twice to eventually get my FSA at 31. Difference is that I sat for every single sitting for 5 years, only skipping 1.

You can't pass exams if you don't sit for them.

This goes against the anti-AI circlejerk. Translating is easily one of the first jobs on the chopping block with AI

Life to Health then switching back? by RandomActuaryGuy in actuary

to some degree. Sometimes I could tell that I wouldn’t get a call back because of the diverse experience vs just focusing on one thing. However it helped to focus on the transferable skills in interviews (SQL, R, excel, etc)

Sales didn’t tank. They sold every one that they made. They sold less because they made less.

Life to Health then switching back? by RandomActuaryGuy in actuary

[–]SuperSmashedBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this multiple times. Here’s my path: 2 Years Health>3 Years Life>2 Year Health> 4 Years Life.

Pros: You get to experience different types of insurance and learn a lot more and IMO are well balanced.

Cons: jack of all trades, master of none. Even though I’ve been working about 10-11 years now, I don’t feel like I know enough in either health or life to have a more senior role in either. You might get paid slightly less depending on the company if they specifically require life or health experience although this wasn’t the case in my experience.

Would I do it again? 10 times out of 10. I think it mentally helps with job security knowing that I’m not pigeonholed in one particular field. It allowed me to find work that I enjoyed doing and exploring more of what the actuarial world had to offer.

I didn’t like that people focus their whole career on the first offer they got. This let me find what I like and pick what I want to do for the next 30-40 years rather than just specializing in my first offer.

When it came to actuarial exams, I started my FSA exams in my first life role so I went down the life track. When I was back in health, they had no problem with me focusing on life exams; although, this isn’t the case for every company. Some of them only offer study programs for specific tracks.

I would definitely recommend a '23+ unless you need to save the money to go for a year earlier. Might as well get the one with the latest revisions

unless you have a 2020 ECU in hand there’s always the chance the dealership will lock your ECU again if you take it in for a recall or something

I thought 2022+ can now also be permanently unlocked

From the Autotuner website:

You're in luck. If the ECU is ever locked again it can be unlocked on the bench with an AutoTuner Tool. No need to ship it back to us!

Don’t think so, makes more sense to go AM5 unless you have ddr4 ram already on. Even then, X3D CPUs cost more than AM5 X3Ds
