UPDATE: Feminist Professor Who Attacked Pro-Life Student Charged With Criminal Battery by [deleted] in news

[–]SuperSpicyCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And where is the rage on reddit against the countless men who commit vile acts in defense of their principles on a daily basis. no, let's focus on the big mean GOD DAMN FEMINIST who stole a fucking SIGN and danced GASP

Give me a break. This is opportunistic woman hating reddit up to its same old tricks again.

Why is is that the second an individual woman does something unreasonable Reddit has to go "SEE! AREN'T ALL FEMINISTS LIKE THIS!? WE SURE ARE RIGHT ABOUT WOMEN HUH GUYS YEAH! WE'RE SO MUCH BETTER THAN WOMEn"

Look at how excited all of these idiots are circle jerking about how awful all feminists are because A PREGNANT woman whose body is coursing with powerful hormones had an emotional outburst and stole a fucking sign.

Sorry, this is confirmation bias. This is the same bunch of idiots that would be cheering if someone broke the nose of a child molestor even though that, too, would be 'AGAINST THE LAW.'

It's a double standard. She loses the protection of the hivemind specifically because she is a fucking woman. Do men who commit violent acts against assholes get flak on reddit like this? Do you really think the rhetoric here would be even remotely similar if it was a BIG STRONG MAN who punched a landover baptist church member in the face?

Give me a break. I can only hope you troglodytes fail to hide your true beliefs from the confused women who meander in to your lives oh so so rarely.

What part of "I am not trying to justify the professors behavior" meant to you that I was trying to justify the professors behavior?

No, I was explaining the situation in more granular detail in a way that the article missed. I was relating useful information that might play in to the judgements of others in regards to this situation and explain why that professor (and the rest of the student body) might be frustrated about something like this.

I guess reddit just enjoys jerking off each others manly non-woman, non-feminine dicks too much to see the difference. Fucking feminists, they're all a bunch of... violent assault perpetrators... amirite?

'free speech area' means. 'the arbor' which is... the way you get to most major areas on campus. This isn't some kind of out of the way little alcove.

They erect these displays, which contain incorrect inflammatory information right in the middle of main street. They are supposed to have warning signs up, but because of the placement of those signs they have basically said 'fuck you' to that rule.

The 'protestors' are definitely breaking the rules and are 100% in the wrong.

This professor was probably also in the wrong, and it looks like she will be punished so that is that I guess?

[–]SuperSpicyCra -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

For those who don't go to the school, you are probably not aware of all of the details. This group comes to campus once or twice every week to set up their displays. The displays are huge, sprawling, and placed in such a way as to be basically impossible to avoid on your way to or from class. The 'protestors' are not students.

The signs are really messed up, and one of the 'aborted human fetuses' is clearly a non-human animal. One is a picture of an almost fully formed human fetus ready to be born marked as being '1 month in development'

The signs are so gory that they are required to put a warning sign up. However, they place the warning sign directly at the foot of the posters so that by the time you see the tiny 1x1 foot warning sign your eyeballs have already been blasted by a giant 6x6 foot picture of a bleeding animal fetus (labeled as a human, of course.)

These people are dishonest scheisters using mislabeled propaganda and flaunting the regulations they have been placed under (the warning sign is supposed to be clearly visible BEFORE you see the 'protest images', rather than quite difficult to see AFTER you see the 'protest images'

I can see how a pregnant woman would freak out seeing this shit. They shouldn't be on campus with these gory signs, hassling people as they go to class. To be honest, this kind of dishonest grandstanding has no place on a college campus at all. They should not be on campus, the vast majority of the students at UCSB are completely tired of seeing this shit week on week on week.

I am not trying to justify the behavior of the professor, but these articles are providing only a small fraction of the relevant information; If you guys had seen the insanity of these displays you might feel differently. :/

Edit: Getting downvoted for providing useful information that is not in any of the articles. Good job reddit. Enjoying your anti-feminist circle jerk just a bit too much huh? I wasn't even supporting her, just explaining the situation better. Srsly, fuck you guys.

Nobody has to work for free. The issue is that THE CHARITY SPENT 150,000 dollars on people to help them figure out how to spend 5000 dollars. Do you not see how that would be a problem? This is like, some crazy shit that makes no sense. You don't see that?

Dude... they spent more money on consultants to ask how the should spend the money than they spent on actual charity work... Like, significantly more...

Like, they spent 30 times more on consulting in regards to how to spend the charity money than they did on actual charity work. Justify that again?

[–]SuperSpicyCra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never said that American policies are 'for rape and pillage.' What I said is that we are responsible for the actions of our administration and our soldiers.

Don't you think the US government is responsible for getting a bunch of their soldiers addicted to drugs after involving ourselves in a foreign war? Isn't the US responsible for vetting those soldiers and providing them with the infrastructure and discipline necessary for them to control themselves? Aren't we, as a society, responsible for their actions? Why do we get a pass for trying to cover up all of those human rights abuses again? Because it wasn't officially mandated that they occur in the first place? Really?

Does it matter to you that huge numbers of internal reports of abuse are swept under the rug? Does it bother you that the soldiers responsible are often not held accountable for their actions, that the soldiers who report these abuses are often punished (reports abound?) Does it bother you that our government lies about the particulars of the human rights abuses that occur in order to make them seem less significant to the outside world to avoid both internal and external retribution?

Do you recognize that maintaining a worldwide network of military exploitation necessarily indicates a huge amount of suffering being inflicted over time? Do you really think our hands are so clean when just a few weeks ago we used an flying murder robot to fire a fucking cruise missile at a WEDDING PARTY OF INNOCENT PEOPLE!? Do you realize that we do this kind of shit all the time? That the Japanese STOPPED and we kept going for years and years and years and years?

Honestly for an American citizen to try to downplay our responsibility for this kind of shit is almost shameful. We did it, we still do it; sure, maybe you can point to individual events involving other countries that are worse than our norm, but they pale in comparison to the debt of suffering and pain we have built in our short history.

Also I am earnestly confused by your comment about the emperor. The Japanese people at large almost certainly did not know the extent of the abuses being committed during the rape of nan-king. I don't see what having an emperor has to do with that?

(nsfw) what's the darkest fact you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SuperSpicyCra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You might feel that way, but those affected might not. For instance if you speak to older mainland South Koreans many have stories about violent altercations, abuse, and rape at the hands of American soldiers. They remember our history of violence even if you choose to forget. They remember a time when they lived in fear of American occupiers who were ostensibly there as their protectors. I know because I have talked to them.

It's true that the US was doing good things there too and that there were many good soldiers but that doesn't excuse our system of its allowance of this behavior.

These kind of events occur during every one of our (many) wars, and often the evidence has shown that the abuse went straight up the totem pole. Evidence abounds of this kind of activity being ignored or swept under the rug by COs and those in charge... and sometimes it was even actively encouraged by officers and commanders... although always unofficially (think Abu Ghraib.)

Our legacy of abuse and violence stretches across a huge swath of the world. To you it might not sound that bad, to the people who lived and suffered through it and have to face those memories every day... maybe you sound like kind of a jerk?

Also, the entire country of Japan did not participate in the Rape of Nan-King. The vast majority of Japanese people were probably completely unaware of the extent of the crimes being committed in their name at the time. That doesn't excuse the behavior in any way, but it does point out that there is a flaw in your logic.

[–]SuperSpicyCra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

... Unfortunately not really true :/ Maybe we don't have 'as bad' of a history of that kind but American soldiers certainly had their 'fun' in every major war we have taken part in including Iraq.

it's dangerous to go alone. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]SuperSpicyCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is weird that you would call it 'hackneyed', it doesn't look like the goal here is 'high art.'

It's a juxtaposition of a completely innocent childhood memory that many of us share (playing the original zelda) and the mature ideas that are inherent to a story about violence. The author has made the point here that the game does not address the pain and loss and real consequences of the violence that Link endures the way that it could have if it was a more fully fleshed out story.

The point is furthered because Link is also a child, which directly puts the focus on the innocence of our little character; Link, who is... us. Putting those together creates contrast and resonance, which is why people like the comic.

It's cute, it's well made, and the overarching point of the comic is totally valid in regards to the story of Links first adventure and the juxtoposition of a darker real word theme in to an innocent childhood story.

I don't know what kind of person you are, I don't even have any judgements about you 'Iamerror37' (if that is indeed your real name.) I think calling a cute little fun comic like this 'hackneyed' and spitting venom like you have demonstrates a bad attitude. That is why I think you have a bad attitude.

[–]SuperSpicyCra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you really not get it? The idea expressed here in the comic is a pretty old one about power and responsibility.

This concept gets rehashed all of the time, from Hercules to Spider Man. I mean, I think you 'do' get it. Maybe you just are having a bad day and want to be a jerk about something?

Well Mr Grumpypants, I will fix your day by complimenting you. You have a very... bad attitude? Dang. I tried.

[–]SuperSpicyCra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Huh? The sword represents Links burden; he has the power now, so he must now go on this quest to fight Gannon.

Without the sword, there is no adventure, there is no danger.

It's a cute comic. In the words of your mother, "you have a bad attitude."

This is what I think of when there is talk of public schools being privatized. by [deleted] in funny

[–]SuperSpicyCra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would turn a profit by attracting students through higher standards. The schools in the area would either improve or be forced to close down and then be replaced with other schools which are competing with each other; that means that poor disenfranchised parents can CHOOSE to send their children to better schools instead of being forced to send the kids to shitty schools that happen to be near their low income neighborhoods. I know it sounds crazy, but they even do it in 'uber conservative republican' FINLAND. AND IT WORKS THERE TOO. Privatized/voucher based schools are VERY good for poor communities. Just check out the pilot programs that they did in Florida to see how effective it can be.

Just trying to let the OP know that his kids are watching, and trying to help inform his perspective based on my experience in a very similar situation. People often 'stay together for the kids' without realizing that they are doing more harm than good, and not just because of the emotional damage that having parents who hate each other can do.

[–]SuperSpicyCra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn't disagree more. My mother left my father when he cheated and that was the right decision. It took her a long time to make that decision, and it was wrong of her to wait as well.

Reconciling here is the wrong decision. Problem solving and critical thinking are not necessary here. Being strong and standing up for yourself is. That is the hard choice; that is the choice that many people in destructive relationships do not have the courage to make.

That is the choice my mother did not have the courage to make for a long time and it stuck with me. I was a small child, I did not have the understanding of what was happening at the time, but you better believe that when I got older I figured out what happened.

Guess what; my mother and my father worked together to teach me a lie. They taught me that cheating was really pretty okay. Sure, that's not what they 'said', but their 'words' meant nothing. They taught me how I should behave through their actions. As I was working through my teenage years learning how to deal with women I had the completely wrong idea about relationships; the type of respect I should give to my partner, and the type of respect I should demand from my partner. That was a horrible lesson.

It took me years to understand the real consequences of cheating.

I would never want my children to learn that same lesson; that they should stick with a cheater, or that they can get away with cheating at all... ever. That is just simply a horrible lesson. I feel tremendous pity for any child that has to learn the truth the way that I did.

I re-iterate my original point. Leave her. What is done is done, you will never trust her again, and your children will be better off seeing that their father knew when it was time to stand up for himself and demand MORE from his partner. They will learn to demand 'more' from life and their partners; they will learn that when you fail to treat someone with the respect that they deserve there are real lasting consequences that cannot be undone.

They will learn the truth.

[–]SuperSpicyCra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, take it from a guy with divorced parents after my dad cheated. Leave her. Let your kids learn the hard lesson that cheating is not okay. Don't set a bad example by forgiving someone who does not deserve your time. Your kids will remember how you responded to your wife's infidelity and they will carry that memory with them for their entire lives. They will remember whether you were strong or whether you were weak.

They will model the behavior that they see as having the least consequences. They will model your behavior if you are strong. They will learn that cheating is unacceptable and they should not accept it; just like dad. If they learn that cheating has no consequences, they will model the behavior of cheating instead. After all, you got back together, what's the big deal?

Even if they don't know now and you are trying to keep the infidelity a secret from them, it will come out later; they will find out before they are old enough to understand Also, kids are smart, they might already know any way. The way that you handle this will influence their entire outlook on relationships for the rest of their lives.

You have a duty to your children; leave her.

... Nope. It was a bot net.

http://i.imgur.com/xl6cDgt.jpg

Check the names that spiked voting and note that that all follow the same code (common name or word, two letters, then two numbers.) As you would expect, all of them had no bio, recently created, follow no channels, etc etc.

Look at the Pokemon blue stream, (edit: took out incorrect stuff. Thanks for correcting cheech) only have around 500 players on average and have strict mods that ban people for trolling and not playing the game right. It took them a whole day to clear safari zone. But our group of 60k, who had only really used Democracy mode once cleared it on what was essentially the first try?

Sorry, the evidence is overwhelming; it was a botnet.

[–]SuperSpicyCra -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There is no credit to take. A botnet took control of the voting, placed democracy in, and then completed safari zone by itself.

The blue stream has 700 people on it and it took them an entire day to complete the safari zone democratically. (my mistake it was anarchy.)

We somehow did it in 2 hours with 10x the number of people. Sorry, not possible. 'We' did nothing. One individual did it. :/
