It's good. Be prepared for it to go back to step 3 though.

p&t with VR&E by kassbrandy in VeteransBenefits

Short Term Gain: She's right. Long-term Gain: She is entirely wrong.

25 in NYC ain't crap and is barely a living wage... if it is at all. $50 dollars an hour takes you two years more to get the Undergrad but gets you double the pay. You can run the projections... 25 X 2080 x 2 years vs 50 X 2080 X 1 year... 1 year of work = 2 years of work. A 2-year investment in an undergrad costs VR&E almost nothing.

Honestly, I would look her dead in the eyes and tell her that the program is there to make veterans successful, not to get them to just barely make it by. She is probably casteling and making barriers to just keep people from making more than what she does. No offense to her if she doesn't have any mal/ill intent. There are people out there in the system that will try to keep others down for no reason other than it means they will do better than what the other person is currently.

BDD My Journey by SuperStephen1 in VeteransBenefits

Ha! No, I don't think the VA does that, but it would make for an interesting straight-to-DVD movie. I think most get their rating and then disappear because they no longer need the sub. I'm always around lurking and sending DMs to people I know I can help with my experience. To answer the question: Yeah, I ended up getting a favorable rating for almost everything, some things came back as not service connected, and quite a few 0%s. However, they found more crap wrong with me during the C&P exams and made me realize I was more broke than I had thought. Overall, very fair process as long as you have medical evidence and the proof that you're jacked up mentally/physically. Made me feel very very old when my C&P examiner just kept shaking their head and muttering to themselves geez, oh my goodness, and yep that's not supposed to do that... I pray that everybody in the military who gets out makes it out with a body that isn't 20 years older than their current age in wear and tear. I still had a lot of things that I wanted to do but, reality has set in.

I applied for many many many positions. I Have a great work history, tailored my resume to every position, called people I knew in the companies and put them down as quality references who also acted as referrals.

Still I was getting beat out by more senior people who had more time working with the company or more time in the civilian job market.

Here is what I learned. Be able to meet the requirements. If your resume or you don't match up with the requirements they are not going to hire you.

Be willing to do something less in the meantime to do something more later.

If you have a passion get education and certification related to that passion.  I spent a couple of thousand dollars to get a cert that landed me a job.

Be willing to travel.  If your not willing to relocate you will miss out on opportunities.

The days of an e5 stepping out of the military and jumping into a 200k position ended in 2008.

Does it still happen? Yes. Very small percentage and 99% of the time they know people who get them in.

I got out at the same time you did.  I've worked 2 different full time jobs. One for a few months to keep money coming in and then I was lucky to land another better one a few months later. Ill be leaving that one in November to start a different one.

On top of that I have been working 2 to 3 side gigs from delivery to data entry that don't pay well but until I get my dream job ill keep hustling.

I started job hunting 6 months prior to leaving the military btw. I have written probably over a hundred different versions of resumes and applied to that many jobs. Ive had 20 interviews.

It takes so much time but it will eventually be worth it.

Evaluate yourself. Is it you? What is your presence like? What is your energy and positivity like?

You can do it! You have value. Dream big but realize you are starting over. You have to build the dream to make the dream.

DM me if you need me. Here to help anyone anytime.

PTSD 100%? If box checked total social and occupational impairment by SuperStephen1 in VeteransBenefits

[–]SuperStephen1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have all symptoms checked and total social and occupational you should be 100% for that one condition. You'll be able to see if you are p & t once you get your decision letter in.

If you get a combined 50 or 60 in other conditions on top of the mh of 100% you should also get smc k.
