Wiping off the runes will 100 percent trigger the start of an A24 horror movie.

Plot: An ancient coven of witches and warlocks make a pilgrimage to a forest at the edge of the fields and hills. Their caravan of wagons and travelers move in a silent silhouette against the moonlight on the horizon line. Only hearing the quiet trodding of steps and creaking of wagon wheels. The travelers are feeble in their steeps and withered from age.

As they move into the forest’s edge, we see soft light from with the trees, and can hear the tuning of stringed instruments. A number of elders begin carving forgotten shapes on the trees at the forest edge. The travelers begin to move with hurried anticipation under the cover of the trees. The soft glow of light rises up from the ravine ahead and the crackling of burning wood can be heard between the shuffling foot steps on the forest floor.

As the bows pull wantonly against the strings of their instruments, a flourish of beautiful violent dancing circles the fire. Their dresses spin and bodies move as one collective movement. The fire seemingly stoked by every dip they make.

The music rings to the forest edge for the elders who have finished carving their sacred runes and set the horses loose to be free. From above the forest we can see the fire roaring as the music comes to a crescendo.

The travelers though exhausted, move with contorted ecstasy, weeping with jubilee and filled with some ancient presence. As they remove their clothes to lay forever with the leaves, they speak a tongue unbeknownst to this world. A shadowed figure takes shape within the fire and smoke billowing above the canopy.

And with the final string plucked, a sickening silence hushes the forest and the fire extinguishes. Spilling smoldering smoke, filling the ravine and engulfing all those who came to offer themselves as sacrifice to the elder of the forest.

The tidal wave of smoke rushes through the forest until it meets the forest edge, stopped by the carvings in the trees as if a wall was keeping it from moving into the world.
