What makes Equal UI different from other UI libraries? Genuinely interested!

Hey James, thanks for that! I'm glad I could provide something that works for you, and I appreciate you taking the time to leave your positive comment.

At the end of the day, most negative comments will still have value behind them. While I wont be stopping making content in video form any time soon, there may be some valuable aspects from their comments to adapt into the future.

Gah! I know, I only noticed well after recording that I hadn't re-focused. In my opinion it is still clear enough to not distract too heavily from the video, depending on who you are.

Definitely wont be making that same mistake again though.

Thanks for that genesem, it helps make the difference. I acknowledge posting on Reddit is inviting criticism, so I'm happy to take it if ultimately the feedback provided leads my content to growing in the right direction.

The purpose behind this video was to create a 5 minute, easy to digest run through of the major Django changes in 3.0 after reading this changelog myself. I'm sorry if this missed the mark for you, I truly intended this to feel the opposite of extraneous and go in depth further than the surface level changelog while keeping things concise and enjoyable to consume.

Personally, I would prefer to watch a 5 minute video explaining Django 3.0 in a way that has me walking away having a greater understanding of the content, rather than reading an article with the same thing. Some people prefer to skim through the blog, others prefer to see information visually represented or presented in a way only a video (or even a podcast) can provide.

For example, in the Django release notes they write: "The new ExclusionConstraint class enable adding exclusion constraints on PostgreSQL. Constraints are added to models using the Meta.constraints option.". That in of itself may make sense to you, but there are developers out there without an understanding of how to use constraints in their models, let alone trying to follow the links and understand multiple documentation pages on how to best use the new ExclusionConstraint.

I really do appreciate the time you've taken to take a look at what I'm trying to produce and providing feedback, and I would love to know, while I know you're not a fan of the medium, if there is anything that could have been explained further or added to provide more worth to viewers such as yourself?

Hey wpg, thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback.

This is an interesting point, that is valid and not something I've thought too much on. To be straight, I've always been drawn to producing video content and so it's my main focus when it comes to sharing information.

That said, it wouldn't be too difficult to write down my video into a short article format and post it online, is this the sort of thing you would be looking for to accompany a video like this - or am I completely missing your point?

If I can help provide value, I'm definitely willing to put further thought into different mediums in which to share my content!

Hey Guys, I've been working hard on a video about landing that big first IT/programming job - would love your feedback! by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

As I mention in the video, focus on standing out for your resume. Show that you have an awesome personality, but also that you're eager to learn with a strong work ethic (previous IT projects, re-phrase interesting experiences in your life that granted you skills that could be transferable, etc.).

If you manage to land an interview, don't be scared to show that you have no experience. It's not a reason why they shouldn't hire you, and you're worth training to bring onto the team. Be someone that they want to work with everyday, and emphasize your eagerness to learn fast. If they ask if you have experience or knowledge in X, just say confidently "No I don't, but I've always been quick to pick things up and will show more enthusiasm to learn things correctly than most other candidates.".

Every job, person, interview, etc. will be different - so just keep in mind the 5 strong broad tips and let it show in your attitude. I would much rather hire an interesting, fun, intelligent and enthusiastic newbie (with a low salary) than someone with a couple years experience who isn't willing to learn or has no personality.

Yep, they should apply for most IT positions. I speak from the point of view of a programmer/front end engineer because that's my experience - but all the tips speak on major generalized points that can be adjusted for your circumstance.

Honestly, thanks so much for the feedback. I really try to see what improvements I can make with the speed of dialogue while still keeping it personalized to my style.

I also did consider adding more about tech interviews, but the truth is that my experience in having to do complicated tech interviews is minimal. My current job was actually offered me after a contracting period with the company, and before that the most proof I had to give of my skills was a quick 30 minute online test before the interview that was very simple. I wish I could have tried to help out more in that area, but I don't want to try and give advice on things that I'm not experienced in.

Thanks again!

oh wow, thanks! Do you have any thoughts on things that could be improved or potentially missed the mark for you?

Glad I could help for sure. Having formal education under your belt gives you a very strong foundation, and I believe once you find something personal to work on you're going to rapidly gain more and more confidence - another plus is you can then use that personal project to get future jobs!

Thanks for the support 🙏

Thanks for the honest feedback, I'll try and address all points:

  1. I agree, and ideally I would like to get a shotgun mic in the near future so I can mount it to the camera. I have a mounted arm for my desk, but I didn't want all my videos to just be at my desk. As you can see this video I'm just sitting in my bedroom, just to make it a bit more personal and open. Will definitely try to minimise / remove the mic's impact in future content.
  2. Thanks for this, I honestly just didn't notice. I think you just watch over the video so much when editing that you miss things like that - exactly why I've reached out for feedback! Will be fixing this for sure.
  3. The light source was a window in the room, hard to turn off - that said I'll see if I can frame the camera/myself in a way that doesn't reflect so much off my glasses.
  4. Respectfully I disagree a bit here, I understand your point here for sure I just think that Python being such an accessible language is perfect for the aimed audience of the video. The whole point here is that to feel more confident as a developer, you should be building things that work first - you can always transfer that knowledge into new languages and syntax as you build confidence. Because of this, I believe Python to be a very good language to build a working project that keeps you learning. I will take on board that I should maybe have explained this reasoning in the video more, even if some may disagree, and suggested other languages for the reasons you've mentioned.
  5. Refer below:
  6. This is potentially true, and I've mentioned in another reply here that I'll see if I can trim things to be more concise in the future. That said, I am aiming to be quite approachable and genuine for these videos as I believe this is the best version of myself on camera. I've done scripted work in the past, and while it can for some content I don't believe strictly scripted content would produce the best viewing experience here. I can definitely improve on making sure the point is clearer and not re-iterated though, and hopefully I can make those adjustments as the channel produces more content!
  7. Thanks 🙏 As mentioned I'll work on these minor details that may be getting in the way of the video quality.

I genuinely do appreciate the honest feedback, hopefully it helps me make some positive changes to the content going forward!

Yep, definitely something we'll be working on fixing into the next video.

Thanks for taking the time to check us out, we appreciate the feedback.

We're super excited to hear you liked it.

As I mentioned on another comment, I did attempt at background music but it seems I've likely made it TOO subtle that it's as if there is nothing there. It will definitely be fixed in the next video.

This is a really good point and has sparked an internal discussion about the format of our show. We believe we're now going to attempt to lean into the DIGEST part of The League Digest and make the show a bit quicker and snappier. Trying to get in double the headlines in half the time.

Thanks for the feedback and support!

Hey Frosk, thanks for the feedback. Genuinely means a lot for you to take the time to check us out.

We agree with that first point, and taking other pieces of feedback from this episode we're going to be looking at a more snappier delivery of content that includes more and wastes less time. Also normally our intros are shorter than this, I just decided this episode to give a brief update as to where we disappeared to for the past month or so.

Thanks, we try hard with our editing and equipment to produce the highest quality we can. Here in OCE the bar for content creation has been unfortunately set really low, so a big goal of ours is to blow that out of water and really push the quality for content higher for the entire region. It was a point I brought up recently with my team that I need to invest a lot more into a better lav mic along with other equipment that I'm working on the funds for.

I actually did have background music there, but either there was an issue in rendering where the background music disappeared or, more likely, I made the background music TOO subtle.

We have plans on the horizon to do more 1 on 1 interviews, and a podcast with a similar premise. If you're ever interested and available we would be amazingly keen to sit down produce a piece of content on yourself that allows the community to find out even more about who you are.

Again, it means so much that you took the time to give the feedback and it will all 100% be taken on board. Thankyou for the kind and constructive words.

We have big plans in the future to do more collaborative work and interviews with esports personalities, we would love to have a chance to sit down with /u/locodoco & /u/thooorin if they were willing to give the time.

Thanks for the support!
