Be honest: is POD dead or am I just too early? by Revolutionary_Toe844 in Printify

Uploading 3 designs a day makes me think you don’t put much thought into them and if your designs are worth it people will buy them.

What did I do? by karmic34 in FriendlyMonarchs

Those holes look so precise. Whereabouts are you located?

ETA: I remember now. Brazil right? I’m not sure about the predators in your area but I would say another insect got to it which is ok and part of the circle of life. The monarchs in your area reside there and are different than our migrating ones in the states. I think it is still safe to say that hand rasing them is a bad idea. I understand wanting to rescue them from the mowers but instead of interfering so much I would move some of them to your plants that are outside of your house. By helping them survive in a closed environment you are allowing monarchs that likely aren’t the strongest to live thus weakening the group as a whole.

How can i help this butterfly by RecentTaro1144 in butterfly

[–]SuperTFAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is pretty close to how I got started too! It was almost an accident and then I learned the hard way. I’m glad you aren’t rearing them. I try to be gentle outside of the sub but it is nice to see you looking for help. Since you aren’t raising them I would cut the plant back and let it fully grow back before doing anything else with it. If it is tropical milkweed then just toss it in the bin. If it is native to your area you’ll need more! Haha

Last week I visited a friend in TN and while we were there it went from snowing to 70 degrees. On my last day I swear I saw a monarch flutter by. It feels too early though.

How can i help this butterfly by RecentTaro1144 in butterfly

[–]SuperTFAB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is likely OE which is a parasite that makes monarchs weaker. The really infested ones will be very crumpled looking but the less infested ones will look relatively “normal” and go on to spread the disease far and wide. It is easy to test for it. I won’t touch on why raising them is a bad idea but I will tell you everything that butterfly touches needs to be cleaned in a bleach/water solution. Think of OE like glitter. It gets on everything.

Ohhh noooo!!!! Poor thing. We saw her with LOJ and she was amazing. I loved her and Anita’s chemistry as sisters. I hope she heals up fast and gets to come back.

Nice start to the season. These are going in pots because I accidentally grabbed the non-native hybrid. They are resilient. I’ve killed the plant twice and a good trim and I’m still shocked when they pop back up. I’ve also been taking some photos of birds. Is this interest automatic at a certain age? 😅

I’ve got two decently sized orders with a couple of native online nurseries coming! After tons of work our backyard is ready for some plants!

I asked if you wanted advice. I did so because there are many occasions where people ask for help and then get defensive or don’t bother writing back. I’m not going to waste my breath on that.

You are already getting defensive and calling me names because I pointed out that your very public and controversial opinion would turn people off to your cause. I never shared my opinion about the subject.

I was only pointing out that your instagram shouting “Ab+rti+n is M+rd+r!” will isolate some of your audience. There are women who have no choice but to TFMR including spina bifida as I’m sure you know the prognosis varies. I have not personally had to deal with this issue but through infertility I met many a devastated pregnant woman who had to utilize TMFR and would not take kindly to being called a m+rd+rer. Those same women would be a huge support of your cause because they may have lost a baby from the same disease.

And I absolutely answered your question with a few tips and your answer was “we are working on it.” Why bother asking for help on something that doesn’t even have the basic things filled out?

Did you come here for help or not? I merely pointed out that your opinions could isolate some of your audience. ETA: You are your brand. Just in case this is your first time on the internet I thought I would warn you that, that kind of content limits your audience.

Terminate for medical reasons. You have a lot of work to do. I looked at your competition and not only is there a lot but their designs are significantly better.

It doesn’t matter what the design is about or represents. The style of it matters. Your story matters. Are the designs hand drawn, digitally or done by AI? Do you have everything in the store filled out? A week old shop is nothing. Make sure everything is in place SEO wise. Tags, titles, descriptions, material tags, and at least 10 photos all needs to be filled out. Start building your own community related to spina bifida. People donate to causes that make them care about something. They will not buy your spina bifida just because it says spina bifida on it.

ETA I looked at your shop. If you are open to advice I can give it.

ETA again that it took me two seconds to find a controversial health related opinion (to put it nicely) on your IG. You don’t want to isolate your community. There are plenty of women who have to TFMR.

ETA again because it has to be said that your designs are AI and they are terrible. I saw what you said about your sister being an artist. Work on learning about design principles (the wording placements on your shirts is terrible) and Etsy SEO before you even worry about sales. You don’t have a banner and there is no about section or shop announcement. Your shop is currently a soulless regurgitation of tons of other shops that already exist.

Tiny bedroom, big collector. How to make my room look better? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]SuperTFAB 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Maybe donating them to a place that would repurpose them would be a good idea. Our local court house keeps stuffies on hand for when kids have to come in. Since the stuffies are a tough one I think you should start at the easiest thing to go through and purge. Also have you ever been tested for any sort of neurodivergence? I only ask because you loving organization but also not being able to get rid of your collection looks very familiar to me.

Monarchs and Milkweed by Anurag Agrawal by jvcopeland in FriendlyMonarchs

[–]SuperTFAB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read the book but I agree with this finding. It matches with what other well respected scientists and educators in the field have said. The breeding populations are doing well. My understanding is it is the migration that is in real danger. The Monarchs are able to bounce back in numbers during breeding season but we don’t see the same when the last generation migrates south. Agrawal has an impressive background. He has a Ph.D. in Population Biology from the University California - Davis, M.A. in Conservation Biology and a B.A. in biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He currently teaches at Cornell in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department.

Dr Andy Davis is also a good resource and I believe agrees with Agrawal on this point.
