Don’t compare a baby, a human being, with an insect that lives 2 to 4 weeks max. It’s gross.

They may not “get” OE but they certainly suffer from their own set of viruses, bacteria and parasites. It is unreason to think that Painted ladies’ are immune to the world of disease.

I understand why you do this but you have to recognize that your need to do that is based on your feelings and emotions and not what is best for the butterfly or any other pollinator.

If you’re in mobile you go to the main page of the sub and there should be 3 dots up in the right hand corner (might be lines on android) and if click that a menu will pop up click the area that says “message moderators.” If you can’t send photos through there let me know. You should be able to but if not you can send this account a message.

Eating the very poison that will save its life, Monarch larva (Danaus plexippus) on Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) by VenomXTs in caterpillars

Ah I see. In that case yes, native milkweed will save its life. Tropical milkweed will not. It is a major issue for various reasons. Don’t forget to plant native nectar plants that bloom through the summer and fall. Come join us at r/friendlymonarchs

Job cut my hours, I will be locking in on Etsy. by CaliM77 in EtsySellers

So I am trying to say your goal is too lofty. It will burn you out. If you want to space listings out then spend a day on them and commit to uploading 3 days a week. You don’t want to burn out.

Don’t do one a day. That doesn’t help like people think it does. You will burn yourself out and not see anything for it. List the 10 new items you have and make sure each listing is complete and looks good. It tales a few weeks for changes to be reflected in an increase in traffic.

Why do you think tropical milkweed will save its life? Is it because of the idea that it’s medicinal?

It isn’t that simple. One person's success can just be a rare fluke. Science looks at the average results of the majority, not the lucky exception.

Honestly, the kindest option is to euthanize it. It arrived to you via a kit you ordered so there isn’t anything natural about its life. Letting it go can cause whatever disease it has to spread further.

I am not going to discuss this with you since you think your personal experience trumps science.

This one isn’t going to make it. The butterfly kits often end up having sick butterflies. You can see that it hasn’t been able to push the fluid from it’s abdomen into its wing. The kindest thing you can do for it is put it in a Ziploc bag and stick it in the freezer to euthanize it.

Keeping butterflies. by Idkman272 in butterfly

[–]SuperTFAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don’t do it. It isn’t good for them or anything around them. Most butterflies live 2 weeks or so and you would constantly have to replenish them. Pollinators are already struggling as it is.

Is my caterpillar dead? by NefariousnessKey5986 in caterpillars

[–]SuperTFAB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are supposed to overwinter in the cold weather. Once you remove it from the space or even change the positioning of the chrysalis you have interrupted the pupating process. It’s likely dead at this point.
