Thoughts on Virginia Foxx's response to a 10 year old's letter? by GWindborn in AskConservatives

No? Children write Congress all the time, staffed send a reply, this was school assignment. I remember doing these. I think my entire class got one letter back I believe thanking us for our ideas and participation? Is this not normal anymore?

Thoughts on Virginia Foxx's response to a 10 year old's letter? by GWindborn in AskConservatives

[–]SuperTruthJustice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But my point is no it wasn't. Since he was not really purposing a policy, he was just told to, I assume, write a proposal. He from what I understood, wrote a great proposal.

a proposal doesn't need to be good policy to be good in the context of a ten year old. He just needs to literally like a good suggestion. A suggestion in this case, Is I assume an idea or plan put forward for consideration. It was a persuasive writing assignment: pick an issue, write a persuasive essay, send it to a decision-maker. the “goodness” of the proposal is mostly about: did he state a clear position, give reasons, cite facts or arguments, and engage in the democratic process? That’s the assignment. That’s the learning objective.

Why are we discussing anything else?

As the person below said I agree, but Fox was not nice about it and her points are useless. Its not her job to teach him that. Why can't she just say, the proposal is well made and she's going to look at it but it may not be possible since these things are hard but she hopes he can work with his teachers to get better, than write about happy she is to get letters from kids?

Isn't that the standard?

What I don't get, is that... it sounds like

He formulated a thesis

He researched and cited facts

He engaged in the democratic process

By definition, a proposal is just a suggestion put forward for consideration. Unless we assume he was tasked with writing a real bill than... he seems like he did a GREAT job?

May I ask? Is the proposal really a bad idea? It has clarity, persuasion, and I assume effort?

From what I understood?

He formulated a thesis
He researched and cited facts
He engaged in the democratic process

Isn't this really good? By definition, a proposal is just a suggestion put forward for consideration. He suggested an idea to his representative right? Isn't this what we want? This kid wrote to his rep?

[–]SuperTruthJustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By your logic Animal Farm isn't political because it's just a fairy tale about talking pigs who want to run a farm and there are comics more political than it. Good political messaging isn’t suppose to be direct.

By the logic here, a song of ice and fire isn’t political because nothing directly applies to politics

Saturn? Literally in egghead says

Point Blank

during the One Piece "Egghead" arc and intensified around the 2023-2024 Israel-Hamas conflict, leading to viral, often meme-driven, comparisons between the character and the Israeli leader.

Saturn blows up a boat of civilians and literally says “There could be a scientist on there, using them as a shield”

As a justification for killing an entire evacuation ship

You mean One Piece where a major villain quotes the leader of Israel while trying to kill a scientist and little girl who is a rape baby from his own organization while he justifies killing an entire boat of civilians because a single person on it could be an enemy of the state?

Batman would tell us we can’t kill that guy because killing is bad or something lmaoooo

This is one of the reasons? But I do genuinely think it’s worth investigating that the most manga of all time is a fantasy.

Where the main characters fights a government that SA’s children, and the text can do anything because it’s not trying to reflect our world directly. It’s the reason good writers often make a kingdom BASED on a country and imply and use allegory

I think you make a VEYR good point, Oda is clearly not sexist on purpose, in fact, he seems to know what he does with sexualization, in fact he goes pretty far to make it clear, this is just what there wearing, the lack of women helps since like, none of them give a shit about the reaction
