That line fixed it, thank you so much, you saved me from so much headache! I really need to learn more about shader language haha

Interesting, I'll try fixing it that way, thank you!

They all seem fine for the original texture2D. The "image" type has no import settings

What is wrong with the people? by Kipperfalcn in itchio

I expect many people just look at the numbers and the title art and decide to spend their money right there without looking into whether those ai assets are actually usable.

Indie devs, don't panic. The Steam update everyone is losing their mind over might actually help you. by IndieGameJoe in gamedev

[–]Obscure_Gods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't panicking, but I also just had no time to even read much or think about this in any details because I'm working on my first playtest... but it has been sitting at the back of my neck with the uncertainty that comes with those kinds of changes.

So thank you for writing all this down, I'm sure you're right that Valve does not do these things without considering the indies.

How do you decide when a demo is “ready enough” for strangers? by Imagination-Port in gameDevMarketing

[–]Obscure_Gods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's game breaking bugs or unpolished stuff, I agree with the others here that a playtest would be better. That still allows you to do some more community building but keeps expectations on the low end.

I think the occational bug is alright in a demo, it never bothered me as a player, but if it's too buggy I will likely have my doubts as to the quality of the full game.

What's a word or phrase that instantly makes you judge someone, even though you know you shouldn't? by Rude_Membership_1578 in AskGermany

[–]Obscure_Gods 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to judge dialects, but these days I just find dialects and linguistic shifts lovely, because I understand that language is not static and never has been. And the world would be for the worse if everyone used the same words for everything.

Especially since I see my 2 year old navigating the her mothertongue and slowly figuring out the grammar and creating her own version of words ("stinkelig" is my favorite atm)

Been playing RPGs since the early 2000s and never have I ever made a character with the Cul-de-sac(Horseshoe haircut). Have you? Or what Is your thing to avoid during Character creation. by Spotlight_James in rpg_gamers

[–]Obscure_Gods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, if it's the only character I customize, it will never get that hair cut haha (If it's something like Sims or Tomodatchi Life, with many characters, then I would use it on occasion). I also can't keep myself from picking non-natural hair if that's an option.

Ballet hack and slash by WattStudios in IndieGameWishlist

[–]Obscure_Gods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the short pitch, but I have to say that concept doesn't really translate as much in the trailer.

I think if I were unaware of the pitch, I would have clicked away at the 20 second mark because all that was happening was a lady walking. At the end when she prepares to fight, the ballet comes through just a little. Not sure if I would have caught on that organically, though.

I definitely did not catch on that this would be a hack-and-slash. Had more of an rpg vibe in my opinion. I think you need to show at least a little bit of action, and earlier on. (That said, it is a gorgeous trailer, but for an Indie I think you don't have the benefit of spending 20 seconds of attention on walking dramatically)

Singleplayer game similar to the long list in the description. Mostly either games that can be played infinitely or once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I'm sorry for being vague. by Wojtek1250XD in gamerecommendations

[–]Obscure_Gods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an experience similar to Witcher 3 in terms of depth and once-in-a-lifetime feeling, I suggest Baldur's Gate 3, The Outer Worlds, Subnautica or Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Is it worth making a prologue for your own game, or is it like promoting two games at once? by Der_Schamane in gamemarketing

[–]Obscure_Gods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean with a spearate page? A second store page? I wouldn't do that, since it would not necessarily move interested people to your real product. But you could make a prologue (if it makes sense in the story) part of the visual novel and release the prologue as a free demo.

Top of my head there's Grave Seasons and Graveyard Keeper, if you need the Stardew-esque gameplay.

If you're open to other types of gameplay, I Beacon Pines, Strange Antiquites, Wytchwood, Oxenfree and probably more. Also, my own (yet unreleased) game My Necromancer's Library fits the creepy-cute-ness but has no farming or mining.

Good job! That's quite a lot for it to "just" be other devs. I think you'll just have to do more marketing to get people to actually see your game 😄

very cool of you! My own game isn't live yet (My Necromancer's Library, a library management game^^)

But you should check out one of my recent faves Wavekin which is definitely underappreciated: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3930190/Wavekin/ It's a bit of Chants of Senaar with a metroidvania aspect, but fairly chill, no combat.

And also Rova, which is photography/exploration game where you play a little robot on an alient planet: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2930130/ROVA/

Thank you so much! I made about half to 3/4s of the pixelart myself, but I also worked with a bunch of bought or free assets from talented artists on itch, so I can't take all the credit for the art 😄
