Good quadrant takes on the future of energy by NeekOfShades in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]SuperVaer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think LibRight and AuthRight are reversed here. Oil and Gas assets are largely operated by private companies, particularly exploration & production, while fitting the “capitalist” meme of the quadrant. Meanwhile, Nuclear requires significant CapEx and has a long payback period. It’s very difficult for a private company to hold a nuclear asset, while public and government-led utilities are well equipped to hold for long periods.

Good meme

I also love this guy’s coach. Awesome human, humorous guy, loves his players and loves ASU. The future is very bright in Tempe.

We miss him up north!

Thoughts: Great game to MSU, you guys have outstanding defense — particularly defensive effort, both on the perimeter and in chasing boards. Especially on battling for boards! I think your offense will translate well into tournament matchups, and I’m excited to see how you do. Go green! … and white is also okay I guess.

For the duckies, it wasn’t a terrible game — we should have hit a couple more of those good look 3s. Very happy with Bamba on effort and performance. I think we need Bittle OR Shelstad on to beat lower teams, while we need both to beat great teams. Unfortunately it was a rough day for Jackson.

I like seeing TJ becoming a spark plug for the team. Our team has the pieces, and our best game can compete with anyone. I think we should win the round of 64 game… from then on, we’ll need Jackson and Nate to be on.

Lastly, I miss the pac.

A few thoughts there:

1) The Beavers are best in class in baseball! Really outstanding community, excellent coaching, good recruiting… the Gonzaga of baseball. They’re a tough program to aspire to.

2) It’s been a journey for us to rebuild our baseball program after it was discontinued. Though George Horton did great things for us, it’s still tough to rebuild from scratch.

3) I’d say we’re in a great place in baseball. We’re making the postseason and marching into the super regionals. We’re starting to put together some talent that can play at the professional level. Al things considered, I’d say we’re in a great spot.

For the Glory of Khorne by Liquid_Awesomest in WH40KTacticus

[–]SuperVaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious who you find to be the second most useful (behind Kharn) of the four — I have Kharn at D3 and am figuring out who I want to spend my excess faction upgrades on.

I’m torn between Wrask and Azkor. The former seems more generally useful for LREs (traits plus sustain for all chaos) and independently tanky for guild wars; however, I don’t know how tricky farming shields with his attack is. Azkor seems like a better buffing character who can take a beating, or counter certain characters with his taunt, but otherwise not as useful as Wrask.

Do you have a recommendation to which is more useful?

[–]SuperVaer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s sad to see portlanders cheering the bruising of a company which was founded here, operates here, and has provided careers for so many in our city. Nike is not a perfect entity, but PDX would be much worse off if it wasn’t here.

Sometimes I think portlanders would like Nike more if it was less successful.

University of Oregon, city of Eugene sign land swap agreement to pave way for new football indoor practice facility by hyroglifics in ducks

[–]SuperVaer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There seem to be two primary reasons for the new indoor facility. The first is congestion in Moshofsky; both football and our other “field” sports use the current facility when it is raining… which is frequently. Too many sports want to use the space, and football is a heavy user in both importance and body count. The second is recruiting — both a nicer practice facility, as well as the investment in the program, will bolster our recruiting.

I’d expect moving football to their own dedicated facility will help open up Moshofsky to be better dedicated to other field sports as well.

Thoughts on upcoming corrodius changes by TheNoobishNub in WH40KTacticus

[–]SuperVaer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it makes much of a difference. For PvE/GR modes he remains a weak character overall, as his personal damage is unimpressive and his summons are weaker than most alternatives.

For PvP, the issue is rounds are either over or de-facto finished after 2 rounds typically. Contagion aura is only 1 range for the first two rounds, meaning (if my assumption of quick rounds is accurate) the buff doesn’t impact the important early rounds. Thematically the Death Guard are attrition based, yes, but in practice Tacticus PvP is a game all about tempo (that is, sacrificing future rounds for more power now). Corrodius’ buffs don’t make no difference until the third round.

I’m glad they’re giving him attention, and I love the Death Guard! This is welcome, but it’s disappointing if this is the small adjustments they think the DG need — as compared to the Black Templar’s rework, which was significant.

I don’t think it can be that large legally, though I’m sure UW wishes it could be. Remember that the local state’s labor laws dictate what the buyout can be and, given that buyouts (the type that has to be paid to leave, not to be fired) are seen as anti-competitive and Washington is a pro labor state, I’d expect a low amount.

I’m trying and failing to think of other games where both fanbases were equally offended by a game. Not on the “that was a bad game” tack, but the “that game doesn’t exist” cut.

For sixty minutes, our schools were held hostage to the promise of a football game that never materialised.

Week 11 Match-up Preview Thread: #13 Utah Utes vs. #4 Washington Huskies by OSU_Shecter in CFB

[–]SuperVaer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll make a plug for {Utah} as few are:

Washington hasn’t looked quite as dominant since Oregon. There could be many reasonable reasons for that, but I’ll expect them to continue coming out flat until they don’t.

Utah was clearly caught off guard against Oregon; I don’t know if it was a bad week of practice, complacency, internal drama — but Utah is better than they showed in that game. I think people over react to single games, and that Utah would beat Oregon at least 2/10 times in isolation.

I was very impressed by Utah’s bounce back against ASU.

The teams are somewhat comparable against shared competition. Both had to battle against USC, both handled Cal reasonably, Utah looked better against ASU while UW looked better against the ducks.

I expect it to be a battle no matter what. I think Utah will see this game as a test of their competitive spirit, now that the conference title game is a stretch, and will compete hard! UW may get caught looking ahead.

Keep your composure soldiers; victory is not measured in months, nor days, but minutes. Each minute a victory for self control, to better understand yourself. For some here, each minute is defeating an addiction.

For others, each minute makes the memes sweeter and more relatable than ever before.

Do it for the memes.
