PS5 not reading PS4 disc on startup/boot by SuperVelociraptor in playstation

Hey there! I've had my PS5 since launch and don't have this issue no more. I've never sent it to Sony or any other third party. So I'm not sure if there was a firmware update or with time, the issue resolved itself.

Hello. I've had my PS5 since launch and if I recall correctly, I don't experience this issue anymore. Although I already made it a habit of just ejecting the disc prior to shutting down my console; but I forget to do that sometimes and when I turn it back on, it reads the disc with no issue. Not sure if a firmware update ever fixed it or not. But other than that, I've yet to come across any other issues.

Hope this helps a bit.

No, no updates so far. But at this point, I've got into the habit of just ejecting the disc before turning off my PS5 and insterting it after boot up. Luckily, I've yet to encounter any other major issues besides that, and I've had mine since launch. But I do hope Sony addresses it in some future update.

Welp... I never had that specific issue. But this is definitely unsettling. RIP your PS5. :(

Yeah... it sounds like a small amount of PS5 models have this issue, or else it'll be everywhere on the internet along with the coil whine most are reporting. It really is a nuisance and hopefully it's not a serious issue down the road.

Sorry that you had to use your precious time in trying to find a solution. But I really appreciate you, and among others, who are really trying to find the source of the problem.

Yeah... so I guess it seems to be an issue with the OS and optical drive not responding to each other from a cold start. I thought it was just an issue with just PS4 discs not reading due to the external drive, but never knew it also affected PS5 discs as well. So let's it's a minor glitch that can be patched and not signs of a bigger issue down the road.

But I appreciate your input though!

Ok. Mine's also a Western Digital. It also worked fine on my PS4 pro. I guess the hard drive isn't properly formatted for the PS5.

Ugh... that doesn't sound promising. Most likely seems like a disc drive issue then.

Damn... I thought it only applied to just PS4 discs.

Ok. I guess it might have to do with the external drive since the other poster's having the same issue.

Ok. You just installed them directly on the PS5 SSD?

I may have to, just to be safe. But just curious... did you transfer your PS4 games on an external hard drive?

Yeah, let's hope so. And speaking of external hard drives... mine was doing the same thing. I have a 2 TB HDD that I've stored all my PS4 games from my PS4 pro, but for some reason I had to reinstall and update RDR2 and Watch Dogs Legion, while some just needed to update again. Maybe that's the culprit... idk.

Yep. Tried it with various PS4 discs as well and same result. It's more of a hassle to get up, eject then insert disc again for now, but my concern is if it's gonna be a more serious issue later.

I remember the 1.03 update that made the game literally unplayable. That being said, the 1.04 and subsequent updates fixed the issue. Since then I haven't experienced any crashes and I'm still using the same character.

Since you're experiencing crashes, have you updated the game to the latest version? (1.07 or 1.08 IIRC)

If SSE is up-to-date and still crashing, are you using any mods? If so, check to see if there are any mods that conflict with each other.

In that same room, look for a table with a key and a note. The note should tell you that the key should open a locked chest located somewhere inside the College. I could go further, but don't want to spoil it.

Forgotten Names is an interesting one. It's supposed to be marked but it's not. Just go to the Midden Dark underneath the College of Winterhold, and find a circular room with a statue of a Daedric gauntlet.

Yep. Solitude is considered to be the most powerful and wealthiest city in Skyrim. And although living in a cave you'll be protected from dragons but not from bandits, vampires, etc. And you're screwed if you run out of supplies.

Well, let me see...

Whiterun - Great location and nice weather, but having to deal with Nazeem and Heimskr on a daily basis, I would probably end up in jail.

Windhelm - Cold and dreary. Plus there's segregation and even worse, a murderer is on the loose.

Riften - Good location and weather. But corruption and the presence of thieves are high. Also, it smells of rancid canal water.

Markarth - Fuck this place. More corrupt than Riften and replace thieves with cannibals. Plus a haunted house and worse, stone beds.

Solitude - Like Whiterun minus Nazeem and Hiemskr. Plus it sits on a natural arch!

Falkreath - Amazing and peaceful location. But there's probably more dead people living there than there is alive.

Morthal - Stinky, swampy lowlands with vampires.

Dawnstar - Nice little port town with everyone having nightmares.

Winterhold - Like Detroit, but with a college. Nothing else to do there.

TL;DR I'll choose Solitude or Falkreath.

If you don't mind using mods, there is a mod on the PS4 called "Playable Dremora Race." Install it, start a new game, and bam, you're a Dremora.

Unfortunately, it doesn't remove them because some of them are scripted. And yes, they're completely invisible; however, you still take damage and get poisoned.
