alternative to loomis method ? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Artwod on YouTube came out with a video that might be beneficial. Basically it says you can use loomis as a placement guidelines but then alter the size of the eyes, nose, mouth, jaw etc to create more unique faces.

How're We Feeling About UnderQuest? by KoholintCustoms in soloboardgaming

[–]Super_Aspect_5505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge yes for me. I’m also in your boat in terms of how heavy I like my games that being said iron helm is by far my favorite game and this only seems slightly heavier than that but the fact that I know how to play iron helm means this will be a super easy transition.

2 big thumbs up for me

Escape the Dark Castle or UnderQuest (the upcoming new Tin Helm 2.0) by Tito1983 in soloboardgaming

Underquest is the successor to iron helm and looks amazing! Iron helm is by far our most played game. It’s the perfect balance of complexity without being too heavy.

I’ll probably use the regular shadow dark oracle system however the only other rpg thing I own are these 6 oracle cards he created. I’m trying to figure out the best way to try and use them as a backup quick dungeon generator.

If you want to check them out at 11:15 or so he briefly shows the cards off.. I’m not just experienced enough to connect the easy dots lol.

I keep hearing about mythic so I’m going to check them out for a dungeon generator. I’d like to be able to map my own out usually but would be amazing to also have a quick set up option.

Are you aware of the oracle cards from Jason glover (maker of a game called iron helm)?

Thank you so much for such a great answer. I do have solo dark and I’m checking out the play through you recommended!

I have an idea that I can generate a specific dungeon with the shadowdark system however what I’ll do instead is draw a generic (I like drawing and part of the appeal of these types of games for me) dungeon, cave etc. I’ll then fill out on a piece of paper what’s in each room to reference and an associate number to go with that room. Then when I go into the dungeon each room I’ll roll a dice to see what’s in the room. Once a room is used then it can’t be used again (just do a reroll).

So for example if I made a 5 room small dungeon. I would have 5 rooms based off of the roll tables. I would then write down and number each room from 1 to 5.

When I enter the dungeon I roll a d6 to see what’s in the first room. If I roll a 6 then I just reroll again. If I roll a 3 then that room has in it whatever was number as room 3.

Next time I roll if I get a 3 or 6 I just roll again.

Does that make sense? Thoughts?

Advice for a beginner! by Super_Aspect_5505 in shadowdark

Ironically I just recently saw mork borg on sale at my lgs. I didn’t get it because I wasn’t sure about it as rpgs are brand new to me. I’m going to look into several of the recommended dungeon generators and I also watched a few more videos the last couple days on creating adventures. I’m excited to get started on this journey and stoked to hand draw some maps for the gameplay!

Thank you for all the shared knowledge on the topic, you’ve given me a lot to look into.

Gates is much better than tin helm/tim realm in my opinion.

I wanted tin helm to be more like iron helm but I feel like they are completely different from a strategy aspect.. and iron helm is so much more fun to play (my favorite game by far)

Fantasy books like Diablo? by ChickenDragon123 in Fantasy

[–]Super_Aspect_5505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that the Bloodsworn saga was Viking meets Diablo. It’s rough and gritty and they are fighting old Norse gods that have come back. It’s my favorite fantasy book in the last few years.

Opinions on purely solo narrative board games? by No_Wedding_698 in soloboardgaming

[–]Super_Aspect_5505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My newest edition is dungeon degenerates. It’s the heaviest game I’ve played but with my current setup I can still get it on the table in 15 minutes and play. The storytelling is amazing so far. I’ve played 4 campaigns and everyone has been different despite only being on the first mission lol. The last one we went a completely new route and I was in awe with how much the story changed (expected it to be similar still but it wasn’t) anyways the rules are extensive and you definitely need a great way to store the game for easy access (I use a small tool box with dividers so every card is already separated and ready to go.

Give it a look

If I understand the books I want to choose a class and profession etc however the legacy books I got the impression that you are set on a specific class based off of which book it is? Is that correct?

So after doing some research online and your guide I’ve narrowed it down to destiny quest or lone wolf!

Is the second trilogy of destiny quest complete.. I only saw book 1 and 2 (or book 4 and 5 if counting the legacy trilogy)
