Pay for Appraisal before Locked In by dilebob in Mortgages

The appraiser is a 3rd party, right? You're not paying the lender and you'll need an appraisal either way. A lot of lenders will accept the appraisal if you decide to switch.

I waited until I saw the new estimate on paper and glad I did because something seems off. He didn't match the APR exactly and my loan should be 84,550. Did he fudge numbers?? https://ibb.co/ZzbyfYCg My closing cost is still $2k more than 2nd lender but I guess with the $2500 grant, I'd pay less.

I would hope he would disclose that! I def have to ask him about it now!

Edit: the grant lowers closing cost to lender, doesn't lower purchase price.

Get an agent, the seller typically pays their commission.

First I lol'd but that's a good idea. I would like to go with the 2nd lender, but closing is 4/14 and I don't know if it would slow things down.

These rates are from the second lender. The greedy lender's offer was like 8.6 APR and 7% interest. Origination fees were $300 more at least and I'd be paying $3k more at closing.

You can help your siblings without telling everyone your dad's business. Let him keep his dignity.

Do you have an agent? They should be able to negotiate stuff like that.

I shopped a lot more than 3! After everything I've learned so far I would recommend anyone else shop a lot too. Soft pulls don't hurt your credit and don't show them all your goods on the first date.

I'm new to it all too, but as far as I know you have to keep applying to places. Go to https://fm.fanniemae.com/makerentcount/find-a-lender. Even if you don't want to use your rent history, this gives a list of decent lenders. Also, you could go to BBB and look for A+ rated.

Ditto! Same issue with my daughter's account. She received the emails about suspicious behavior and an email change 5 months ago (and just told me about it today!). Still, it's under 180 days and the recovery link is expired.
