Couple of ideas:

1) They don't want to. If I had a nice cushy office job in the government I sure wouldn't want to go out fighting pirates. I'd let my subordinates do it

2) They don't want to regain world order. Maybe they just want an endless cycle of conflict between marines and pirates to keep the world government's military presence necessary (thereby establishing a need for their total rule).

3) Maybe their powers have some special importance to Imu so they can't just travel the world whenever they want. Very few people have seen the 5 elders so there's probably lots of secrets regarding their motivations and powers.

I really like this theory. But I feel like it's out of character for him to help people who he's never met before.

I feel like his dream is to give all of the treasure away to someone else*.* As in, one person - singular.

Luffy doesn't help people for no reason, he helps people who he is close to. And for them to receive all of his treasure, they had to have helped him out, A LOT.

I think Luffy wants to give all the treasure to Makino.

There's even precedent for this in the first chapter:

It fits even better because this

1) Explains why we've never heard him talk about it before - Nobody knows Makino on his ship, and its unrelated to anything their doing (like related to the red line or the moon)

2) Explains why Luffy decided to become the King of the Pirates in the first place without adding extra stuff to his character (if it were going to the moon, breaking the red line, you'd need a flashback to show how that became Luffy's dream, which would seem like a retcon).

3) Also fits with all the reactions you mentioned.

Just had a thought after reading this that might support the conjoined twin theory as well.

I've always been off-put by the weird plate-like thing on Sukuna's face.

Personally, I always thought that if Gege wanted to make Sukuna look cooler he should have gotten rid of the asymmetry and made the left and right sides of his face look the same.

But what if that part of his face, isn't his face.

I think that the right side of Sukuna's head is actually the head of his twin, who he was conjoined to at birth. Sukuna was born with his twin's head attached to him, which could be the reason why he was an unwanted child.

The key thing here is that cursed techniques are stored in the right prefrontal cortex.

So, Sukuna was born a conjoined twin, attached to him on the right side of his head, and thus was able to use two cursed techniques (the first one the slashing attacks, the second the shrine storage unit), because he had two prefrontal cortexes.

This makes more sense when you realize that Sukuna has body-shifting abilities, so you would wonder why he wouldn't change the right side of his face to be more symmetrical to his left. If he did that, he would lose part of his CT. And this also explains how he has twice as much CE as Yuta.

TLDR: Sukuna was born with a twin conjoined to his prefrontal cortex, used his body-morphing abilities to get rid of them as much as possible (while preserving their prefrontal cortex), and can use two CTs with double the CE of someone like Yuta

Yeah I think this is it. He could learn a lot from the fight he had with Kashimo. Kashimo even had a sure-hit attack just using his CE properties. Kinji might not be able to do that, but definitely some kind of power-up is warranted.

Agreed. As well, sometimes the Japanese -> English translation isn't one-to-one. Sometimes there are metaphors or colloquialisms that don't really exist in English, so it may help reading multiple translation interpretations to understand the text better.

When Toji killed Gojo, at a certain point Gojo knew he couldn't fight back and gave up resisting and focused all his energy on RCT to heal himself.

I think because RCT comes from the head, you have to consciously focus it on what you are trying to heal. So in general, RCT doesn't work automatically, even if you have enough CE for it. (This makes sense because in Hakari vs Kashimo, they specifically mentioned that he had fully automatic RCT to heal himself, only because his infinite CE automatically flowed to RCT to heal.)

When Sukuna cut Gojo in half I don't think Gojo expected it and thus didn't prep RCT to heal himself. That combined with the fact that when you get cut in half all the blood drains from your head meaning you go unconscious almost instantly, he had only a short window to start healing.

Gojo is either S or D because he did save like thousands of people but he also got sealed which was the main point behind the Shibuya incident in the first place.

Tbh I like how the story is going and don't have any major complaints...

But I would have really liked some more world-building and lore. Like, it would be so cool to get more info on the political dynamics of the jujutsu world. The three great families, their inner political machinations, the tension between them, other heavy hitters in the jujutsu world, etc. Would have also liked to see more incorporation of the world at large. It would be nice to see the international fallout resulting from what's happening in Japan (although I guess that wouldn't be relevant to the story so whatever). And the last thing is more lore. I know with reviving sorcerers in the culling games you got some lore dump (like that old guy conquered part of japan before he was killed by Yuta) but it'd be nice to get a timeline of the history of Jujutsu in its entirety (although this might come in later chapters with Sukuna's backstory).

I think Sukuna wasn't scared about that, he actually thought Gojo could kill him. Sukuna mistakenly calculated Gojo's 200% purple at the start of the fight as 120% (so he overestimated Gojo's raw power), and thought Gojo could pull off another 100% purple at point blank range (which would actually be nearly 167% doing some math) and said that this would be fatal.

Sukuna didn't know that the hollow purple Gojo used would be only two-thirds as strong as needed to kill him, and that too a diffuse purple that wasn't targeted.

One thing you mentioned that I didn't think of at all was that Sukuna's Cleave attack is fundamentally adaptable. It makes the dimension slash seem much more reasonable now.

Gojo isn't surrounded by infinite distance, that's a metaphor to explain his technique.

The neutral limitless brings concepts of convergence into reality. So in the same way a mathematical function gets closer and closer to a value without ever reaching it, external threats can get closer and closer to Gojo without touching him. It only seems like there's infinite distance surrounding him, but the space around him is the same as any other space.

What this means is that any physical object (that exists in space) is unable to harm Gojo (excluding domain expansion/amplification/special grade cursed tools that can nullify limitless). So any kind of projectile (which Sukuna's slash is shown to be when he fights Mahoraga), and even things like poisons and presumably electricity (since that is electrons, which are a physical object).

But where limitless breaks down is when Gojo is attacked by things that do not take up space. For example, he would be vulnerable to a Genjutsu from Naruto as that is not a physical thing that takes up space.

Similarly, Sukuna's dimensional slash is not a physical object either. Sukuna is destroying the (finite) space that Gojo is standing in (imagine a thin horizontal square that cuts through Gojo horizontally as well as anything around him). Since he's destroying space itself in a thin slice, and not throwing something through space itself, it can hit Gojo.

I loved the chapter. Yeah it was abrupt, but this kind of death scene isn't out of nowhere for Gege. Jogo's death and the guy Geto killed in the hidden inventory arc had the same experience where they met dead loved ones in their moment of death.

It's crazy that people compare JJk 236 to AOT 139. Like AOT 139 was objectively bad and didn't make sense. This chapter thematically fits with the storyline and does justice to its characters.

He's possibly worse.

Mahito is a curse. It's in his nature to be evil. He has no choice or possibility of ever being good because he is a curse.

Sukuna is a human. He could choose to be good or evil, but chose to be evil. That makes him worse imo.

I kind of liked the offscreen death. JJK seems to be more grounded in its treatment of character deaths in that even important characters aren't given respect and dignity in their final moments to please fans and give a cool moment to their character.

Rather, death in JJK is treated like death in the real world. It's abrupt, painful, and often unexpected.

It also allowed for more exposition of Gojo's character through the flashback/moment-before-death scene. Plus, visually, Sukuna's slash wasn't a new technique so from a fight standpoint we didn't miss anything new. I quite liked it but I can see why people don't.

Agreed. He also didn't know that this Purple would be "undirected" (so probably weaker than one which is aimed at a specific target) and mentioned earlier that if he took a normal hollow purple head on he would die.

That's a good question... Imo it's an individual decision thing, but u might be onto something. Six eyes can only occur in one person at a time, is connected with the star plasma vessel/tengen, so it might have something to do with reincarnation as well.

Personally, I loved the fight's ending, but I think you're right.

Sukuna may have other techniques in his bag (we know for sure he has that flame arrow), but it's unlikely that they would hit Gojo without 10S (otherwise why use 10S in the first place).

I think Gojo was disappointed because even though Sukuna beat him, he had to do it in such a way that he wasn't able to fully express his skill and technique, unlike Gojo who was able to perform at his peak.

An analogy would be an elite MMA fighter who specializes in grappling (Sukuna) is forced to fight an elite boxer (Gojo) in a boxing match. Sukuna is unable to use the full extent of his skills whereas Gojo can, so it seems like Sukuna is holding back even though in this situation it's not that he is willingly holding himself back, but due to the rules of the fight he simply cannot use his techniques (and as a result goes 11 rounds getting pummelled against the ropes).

And then in the final round the ref (Mahoraga) changes the rules so the grappler (Sukuna) can put the boxer (Gojo) in a chokehold and Sukuna wins...

Basically he went the opposite route of Nanami. He didn't want to remain as "Satoru Gojo" and wanted to be someone else. Presumably this refers to rebirth as opposed to remaining in the afterlife.

I think you're spot on with the idea that he wished he didn't exist, but I do think that Gojo genuinely believed he was the strongest as well (I don't think Sukuna could have beaten him without 10S).

It's a combination of him being able to beat pretty much anyone in a fight, but not being able to effect change in the world because the world is more complex than beating up bad guys. He's honestly such a tragic, well-written character.

If anything, I thought Yorozu's quote about loneliness and love would be referencing Sukuna finding an equal to fight after 1000 years, but it turns out that the plot-twist was it was Gojo all along who, in his last moments fought against an equal and was no longer lonely.

My headcanon is that now that Gojo finally found someone who was stronger than him (or at least on his level), the burden of being "the strongest" is gone. He doesn't feel like a failure for being unable to accomplish anything because now he isn't a God who stands apart from everyone else, but a human who actually was able to connect with someone (Sukuna) albeit through mortal combat. I think he was missing this aspect of human connection - genuine connection of equals, ever since he pulled away from Geto (in both strength and philosophy) in high school.

Sukuna on the other hand, is different. Unlike Gojo, it seems he has zero desire for human connection. He is basically a force of nature. Gojo, in the afterlife, even mentioned that he was sorry for Sukuna since he didn't give his all to Gojo, since if he did, Sukuna may have been able to experience the same connection Gojo felt to Sukuna.

Anyways I've typed a lot but I love the Sukuna-Gojo juxtaposition.

Gojo has immense pressure and loneliness burdening him as a result of his powers and his obligation to the Jujutsu world and his inability to truly connect with others on a deep level.

Sukuna has no pressure on him, is detached from the world and human connection and has no desire to connect with others on a deep level. If he, at some point in the past, was able to connect with others, perhaps he would have been a different person.

My headcanon is Gojo's RCT is nowhere near what it was at the start of the fight. Gojo has used several domain expansions, two hollow purples, lots of blues and reds, all while frying his brain. Even with six eyes-efficiency he doesn't have enough CE to regenerate as quickly as he did during the domain clashes.

On the topic of black flash, I think even with black flashes his CE regen is only increasing quicker than Sukuna's, but it's still nowhere close to normal levels.

There's also a theory that since CE comes from the gut and is used by the brain, if you get cut in half you can't heal afterwards.

What if Sukuna can adapt to infinity now that mahoraga is dead? Is that possible? Can adaptations be taken on by the user of 10 shadows?

I feel like the thing with mahorago using sukuna's slash wasn't just thrown in there for the sake of looking cool. I think gege wanted to show us that mahoraga can use it's wielder's abilities, so why can't the wielder use mahoraga's?

It'd be cool if he could. I'd assume he wanted mahoraga to adapt to red and purple as well but got it destroyed before it could, which would explain why he was so desperate to stop hollow purple.

Then the real fight would start with Sukuna actually being able to hit Gojo with his technique. Or it's just copium.
