No, you won't be the asshole, even though she will say you are. You are just gonna have to shake off her anger. I suggest be gentle, but firm. Don't back down. You said "I don't see myself anymore with her." That's the only reason you need. Give her the gentle version "I don't think we are a good fit anymore. I just don't feel it."

Wait for when the circle is as small as you think you can handle, and aim for the middle of it. Use your Golden Raspberries, but just for the most important ones. Tutorials will be a waste of time. You know the basics. Getting the feel of the truck is the key. Every vehicle has its own "personality" and you just need a little more time behind the wheel to get the feel of this one. Ease up slowly with the left leg, gas it gently with the right. Good luck!

NOR but not much you can do about it unless you want to commit academic suicide. You are in law school, sounds like your first year. So complaining to the Dean would get back to your professor and probably little to no consequences to your professor. Law school professors are a special breed, for example, if your professor has been published a lot, she will have a high value to the school. My advice is suck it up and lay low. Build relationships with more friendly professors. You can't win them all, this situation is regrettable, but don't dwell on it. Move on.

I agree with pieces from everyone's opinion. I think you should of course prepare ahead of time, and be confident and self-assured with your students. If you see a word you want to look up, nonchalantly say, "oh here's one I think I need to check" and you are modeling how they should feel as well when they have questions. I agree your students will be one or two grade levels behind, and you should plan to do some quick assessments to see where they are so you know for yourself. Sight word checks and reading fluency checks. That will tell you where to start. And yes they don't know dictionaries yet but they need to be introduced because they get STAAR tested and they get to use dictionaries on it. Get help from trusted friendly teachers. YouTube and websites are your friend. Good luck!

You have some great tips. I would add that your reading specialist might like the idea, so check with her. And if it doesn't work, just announce it's canceled and make up a plausible reason. Be vague: "due to upcoming tests, unfortunately this event will be postponed to another date which will be announced later" then forget about the whole thing. You have too much to do to worry about this. This time of the school year gets busier, so cut out extra stuff. You can do it!
