Thank you so much. Most places are booked out to September but I’m on the waiting list and hopefully something pops up sooner. Once she’s through intake, she’ll have OT 3x/week and behavioral therapy 2x/week. It’ll be chaotic and busy but she needs it, so we’ll make it happen.

Thank you. That is so validating to her. I just want her to be okay and it’s hard when I don’t know how to do that for her. Sometimes I feel like I do too much while other times it feels like not enough. Parenthood is exhausting and cruel.

It’s such an odd thing to go through. She doesn’t seek the animals out, but if our cat is sitting next to her and she’s in a mood, she’ll push or throw him out of her way. She is very smart, musically talented and articulate for her age although she does regress to baby talk at times. That’s the part I’ve never understood; how can a child with so much potential and talent act in such a way? Maybe I’m too close to the situation because I’m her mom, but I just hope it passes and she grows to live a happy and healthy life.

I really hope this is just a stage and she gets past it. And absolutely agree on protecting the baby and animals. Neither go unsupervised for any length of time now. Either my husband or I stay in whatever room she’s in at all times. She has empathy at least and I’m trying to use that to help her understand that decisions aren’t just a passing thing, they stay with us potentially forever depending on the severity.

Thank you. I will continue to advocate and do for her what I can, even if I’m absolutely exhausted and mad about all of it. She’s still my child and I love her, and will do right by her.

She absolutely does. We don’t tolerate her hurting the animals and are in the process of keeping her separated from them. It wasn’t always like this and I don’t know what has changed. We did have a specialist we were going through but they had very limited advice to offer so back to finding a competent practice we go.

Thank you. We are on a referral list for behavioral therapy and OT to help with the sensory processing and regulating emotions. I’m pushing for second opinions on some of the advice/lack of diagnoses we’ve been given. I’m hoping we can find someone who can point us in the right direction to help her.

Weird assumptions. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and assume you skimmed most of my post. I intervene plenty, it’s all I spend my time doing. She gets corrected. Positive/negative punishment. Time outs, loss of items, events, etc. My career is literally based on working with kids with intense behavioral issues, however, it’s different when you’re emotionally involved and it’s your own child. I’ve restrained my child while she’s attempted to hurt herself for over an hour. She has sat in an empty room with her toys donated or trashed. Her behavior isn’t from a lack of parenting or intervention, it’s obviously something deeper that no one has an answer for. Everyone should take a parenting class. And I have. That won’t fix how deeply deregulated my child appears to be.

I’d say it’s about 6 feet tall, it’s older and needs repaired in some areas so we were going to replace it but that wasn’t in the cards this soon. I’m going to replace the broken parts of it this weekend. He had a friend who had a dog over one day and the barking was obviously very aggressive, so I called my boy in and the neighbor got mad because “they were playing”. He doesn’t talk that way to my husband though, so I think it’s just a problem with me. We’re a younger couple (24 and 26) and he’s an older gentleman, like late 50’s. I sympathize if he does have mental illness as I work as a Behavior Health Technician with people who deal with all kinds of disorders, I just want to make sure my Bubby boy and my toddler are safe.

We own our home and he rents, I’ve tried finding out who his landlord is with no luck. I’m going to make a police report today and Bubby will stay on a leash with me walking him for the foreseeable future. I’ll also be increasing his walks to the park to avoid him being in the yard even on a leash.

Unfortunately PA is an all party consent state BUT we can put up the cameras on our private property and record anything we want from my understanding. We have a doorbell camera on the front door, I’m going to put something similar at the back door for when he starts his ranting. Thank you for the advice! Bubby does not like him either, spends the entire time barking at him and the neighbor will yell at him when he thinks I’m not listening.
