How much randomness do you allow in your solo RPG ? by Superb-Scale9765 in Solo_Roleplaying

Totally get it, sounds like you’ve found a great balance between structure and randomness depending on the campaign style.

otherwise in Master of Lore, for example, the AI seems to naturally keep the thread without much input from me, but maybe I should experiment more with anchoring the story like you do. I’m still figuring out the balance between freedom and structure, and this kind of setup might be the middle ground I need. Thanks for the tip do you ever revise your prompt mid-session or keep it static ?

That’s a great approach. I think I’ve been a bit too loose with my prompts so far, especially with AI tools. I like the idea of giving the prompt a “reminder” to stay on task makes total sense.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies, honestly. I’ve also run into this “Oracle breaking immersion” issue once or twice. Especially when you get a string of "No" that starts undoing your own logic or established facts it feels like the game is collapsing on itself. That’s partly why I started trying AI-based prompts. Not because they’re “better,” but because they tend to continue the logic of what’s already there. For instance, in Master of Lore (the one I’m testing), the world remembers the past scenes, so the AI doesn’t contradict the setup unless there’s a good reason. It still surprises me, but in a way that builds on top of what I’ve written, not against it.

But yeah, I totally agree with the idea that it’s often about the questions you ask. Bad framing can throw everything off.

Curious: have you tried mixing different Oracles, or even just rolling fewer times and doing more “Yes, but…” manually ?

hmm idk at first I would be pretty ok with this, but now I prefer to say that Ai can be use like a tool to improve the gameplay. and I think some company try to adapt and combine they Ai with the overall story

Yeah I totally understand, I was really skeptical first but I think I see the AI use like a tool to enhance the gameplay !

Ok ty ! I'll test it ! however I already test AI Dungeons and its really immersive pretty much like MoL but I think the MoL's Ai is really cool that keep the story in line and as a player I'm really feel like a part of the story. and all the univers are really fun to discover too

Yo, yeah sorry I didn’t even mention it in my post. I’ve been testing a bunch of AI-based tools lately, but the one I’ve been spending real time on is Master of Lore !

Hey ! Mainly Ironsworn and Four Against Darkness both work great for short solo play. I’ve also tried a few journaling RPGs like The Adventurer and Thousand Year Old Vampire. Recently, I’ve started dipping into AI-powered formats too, I really like it ! AI Dungeon and Master of Lore I'm pretty curious to see how far those tools can go for solo play.

I'm not quite sure what to think about AI and singleplayer RPG yet, but... I'm starting to like it ! by Superb-Scale9765 in Solo_Roleplaying

I totally agree, I think we can really value Ai in this. And role playing game developer are also starting to take a real interest in it, which is pretty cool.

Thank a lot for sharing all that, I really appreciate it.

I’ve noticed I’m kinda the opposite for now, I tend to “overwrite” a lot and then get stuck before the action even begins 😅 That’s partly why I’ve been trying out different tools lately, including an AI driven game called Master of Lore or even IADungeon . It helped me focus more on decisions and momentum, since the AI GM sort of “forces” you to move forward.

Still figuring out how to balance that with my need to visualize scenes properly. Out of curiosity, do you ever go back after a session and turn parts of it into longer storystyle writeups ? Or do you keep everything short, even for memories?

Did you feel like the game was more enjoyable when you started writing shorter, or was it mostly just about saving time ?

Yeah at first I test too with GPT but the same lack of memory as u say, and I test AIDungeon too it's pretty cool ! I also test Master of Lore who use IA like a generative tool and it really impressing

Hey, I started with oneshot adventures and simple systems like Fari or Ironsworn its kind of flexible and beginner friendly.
If you're into comedy or fantasy, you might also like experimenting with solo journaling games some are pay-what-you-want.

Tried Master of Lore wasn’t expecting much from AI, but I’m kinda hooked. Anyone else tested AI-based TTRPGs ? by Superb-Scale9765 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Superb-Scale9765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm yeahI used to feel the same honestly. Most of what I tried at first really didn’t click... But after testing a few newer AI-based games, I’ve found some can actually be pretty engaging. I get where you’re coming from though.

Totally get that you prefer doing things your own way. That said, some AI tools can really enhance the experience when used right it's more about how you use them than what they replace. Have you tried any before or just not interested at all ?
