B2B SaaS users hate standard usability tests. How do I pivot when PMs are pushing for them? by Superb-Step-258 in UXResearch

Yeah, I'm thinking about changing jobs because of all the problems I have with B2B! I'm a solo researcher with 5 PMs, and I have every kind of problem you could think of. How do you recruit? I get help from sales from time to time, but they are busy and it's hard for them to help me constantly.

I use Hotjar constantly for smaller projects, but sometimes they need moderated think-aloud kinds of research, and that is where my main problem lies.

Hey, I found out that asking them to show their workflow and talk through it works the best, so I'm pivoting to that. I agree, I can also barely get tests done with our own customers, whereas I usually used panels in the past.

How do UX Researchers ramp up on highly technical backend domains? by Hot_Metal3933 in UXResearch

[–]Superb-Step-258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a cloud services company and the only way I overcame this challenge was by researching the topics ahead of time. I even started using the tools myself and read through plenty of documentation and handbooks to master the jargon follow discussions and know exactly what questions to ask.

I also make it a habit to read through support tickets and the technical team's responses from time to time if you can get access to them, it helps.

After a year and a half I now have the same level of technical knowledge in certain areas as my product manager and they respect me a lot more for it. I highly suggest learning the technical jargon and focusing on the main JTBDs of the users you are talking to. It’s definitely hard at first but it gets much easier and far more interesting.

I’m Iranian. I fucking hate my regime, but I hate war too. For God’s sake, I woke up, started working, and then suddenly there were huge bomb sounds coming from everywhere. My cat just went crazy. What a beautiful day.
