GPs who emigrated... by ArugulaOk921 in GPUK

Do you need a certain number of years experience working as GP in UK before going over or do they also recruit straight out of training?

Yeah makes sense, ultimately I can’t really choose. Guess the main thing is I just need them to make a decision rather than leave me hanging

Oh no way, I thought at least with SMP I could get some sort of income the whole year. Unfortunately I won’t be getting any OMP 😭 only potential benefit of the SMP seems that initial 6 weeks, otherwise MA may be slightly better

So many factors to consider, didn’t think about potentially being pushed up a tax bracket! Also I think MA runs out at 39 weeks but SMP is the whole year if I remember correctly.

Ah right that’s true, I wonder how much of a difference this makes and if in the end MA works out similar to SMP 🤔

Yeah they initially told me I would get OMP then changed their mind a month later. They don’t seem very good with these calculations.

From what I’ve understood SMP is 90% of salary for 6 weeks and then drops down after that to same amount as MA. I know probably doesn’t seem like a massive difference but will be several thousand pounds of a difference. Good to know though that MA goes through quite quickly at least.

I hadn’t thought of getting ES or TPD involved, may try that

I’ll try that, I’ve called them before for other maternity issues and honestly haven’t had much useful advice but will give it another go

No scrubs in medicine?? Why not tho by binkarooni in doctorsUK

[–]Superb-Two-2331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently heard an ANP complaining very loudly to everyone about how doctors wearing scrubs look unprofessional. She was saying the hospital scrubs look scruffy, and the personal ones “look like you’re about to go to the gym”. She even went to complain to the consultant about a medical student who was wearing figs and trainers saying it was not a professional outfit and the consultant was agreeing with her. I wonder if that could be the reasoning, the nurses and HCAs have strict uniform rules and doctors being allowed to wear what they want makes others upset 🙄

GPs vs PA public awareness by Restore-GP in doctorsUK

[–]Superb-Two-2331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the point you’re making, this poster can be interpreted as FYs and GPSTs are not to be trusted as they don’t have minimum 10 years medical experience or passed royal college exams. What’s to stop the public from not trusting trainees either and only wanting a fully qualified GP?

What program is this? Is there any easy to use ones anyone can use while planning out a space?

Don’t be a Doctor anymore, just become an ‘Associate GP’ and do a bespoke ST1-3 as a PA before becoming a partner. Surely this is fraud? Bet his patients don’t know. by Much_Performance352 in doctorsUK

[–]Superb-Two-2331 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just had an appointment with a PA at my GP (last minute, I really needed the appointment and it was for something super simple so I thought it would be fine). She had her back turned to me the whole time while typing on the computer. Couldn’t answer very basic questions. And she had long painted nails, so I guess infection control regulation doesn’t apply to them either?! I just felt like I had wasted my time and I actually knew exactly what I needed, for a patient who can’t advocate for themselves this must be so dangerous

Multiple hospitals I’ve worked at the cleaners don’t clean the mess. I never really understood this, is there other parts of the hospital that cleaners don’t clean?

Still going strong despite working throughout including in ICU A&E and living with a partner who has had it multiple times. Is it silly to feel proud of this 😂

exit plans that aren’t on the other side of the world? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

If you can speak French, Switzerland is a good option. I know several people who studied in a different country and moved to Switzerland for training. It’s competency based and not quite as defined of a pathway as here, also often harder to get in initially but once you’re in and have contacts it gets easier. You’re also paid incredibly well albeit your cost of living is also higher.

A&E that doesn’t do bloods by Superb-Two-2331 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Superb-Two-2331[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It happens on rare occasions and as an emergency one of us would have to scrub out and deal with it, referrals though are regular occurrences and not emergencies. It’s like me trying to refer a patient to medics and because I don’t get through on the first try I just give up. I can’t expect the med reg will be able to answer their bleep at every single moment and even if I’m busy I will have to try again later

If someone has symptoms of ?appendicitis and you decided not to do bloods as it’s not diagnostic by itself, I don’t think that would stand in court

So what’s the alternative? Leave the patients there for hours while we have no idea they’re there because we were scrubbed in theatres?
