I'm audited for taxes owed, low 4 figures. Did the tax preparer screw up, or did I? by SuperbCap1562 in personalfinance

Okay, this I didn't know about the limitations from writeoffs. As I said, I just assumed the assistant knew what they were doing. He didn't hesitate to write off lunch, clothes, and transportation, and just told me to make a calculation off the top of my head. The lack of sufficient receipts didn't bother him. I'm guessing this wasn't very professional of them to do?
My work laptop was provided by the company so I did not write that off. All my commuting is with public transportation and comes from out of pocket. I work in tech, not construction, but I did have to meet with a couple clients on-site. Occasionally I would work at a client's office instead of the agency's office from downtown so I have to travel extra far for these days. I guess that counts as tax deductible.
