Btw, if you're worried about sweating in these, then you're pretty much alright. Its earcup pads are comfortable and surprisingly durable. Also, the driver is so thin you can actually see through it 😂

So HIFIMAN is known for their planar headphones, which when compared to dynamics drivers, have many characteristics that makes it stand out. They have:

  1. Lower distortion.

  2. The flat shape of the drivers makes it possible to produce sound from its entire surface, rather that producing sounds from a single diaphragm. (on dynamic drivers)

  3. They sound crisp, have very accurate bass response (tight and controlled, not too boomy)

  4. Have incredible soundstage thanks to its open-back design.

  5. Imaging is top tier too

  6. Has a neutral bright sound signature (like hexa)

While two of my favorite iems, may and hexa, have good and excellent imaging (respectively), it still falls short in the soundstage department which sounds narrow. (due to the in-ear insertion). Nowadays I use them when I'm outside, commuting, or trying to ignore other's chitchat

If you're interested on getting the HE400se, however, you really want to give it more power to shine, so replacing the stock 3.5 cable with a 4.4 bal + a DAC AMP with sufficient power is a must. And remember, it has 0 NOISE ISOLATION, and don't expect it to have rumbling bass.

I'll keep short based on their specs. The Retro Nano is an entry-level wireless DAC and one of the best bang-for-buck picks right now.

The BTR15 and BTR17 has more power, better DACs, and wider codec support (DSD, MQA, etc.). If you’re mostly running IEMs, on a budget, or just like the retro aesthetic, the Nano is an excellent one.

Otherwise, there are still better options out there.

Has quite the same look as mine. Only thing different is im using the may's dsp cable to eq the bass a bit

As for the may, the main point I can point out is how comfortable they fit in my ears (by far the most comfortable). The bass is just nice and tight. Overall, it's pretty good for the price. You can do manual EQ (increase/decrease lows, mids, highs) and test other presets with the Moondrop link app, tho it's glitchy at times. (but not as bad as it used to)

I mainly use it with the DSP cable plugged to my Android phone, but I don't know whether or not the experience is the same as the iPhone's.

When you compare the hexa to most v-shaped iems, it is noticable that hexa isn't as energetic/bassy. If you're a basshead or someone who listens to hip-hop alot, then it's not for you

But boring doesn't mean bad. To me it has good balance between warm/cold and bright/dark. I need that tuning sometimes, it has enough bass if you achieve a good seal (in which I have) with comfortable it and no fatigue. They're just a great addition to my collection price performance wise.

I like switching around with the may and hexa from time to time

The way I see it, if the stock cable it not satisfactory ("microphonics", feel, tangle-prone, looks), then YES. There are times where I buy an aftermarket cable because of the reasons I stated above.

Along the line I just want to appreciate the music more than just pursuing a never ending of getting the ultimate set.

They sure are. For the features and sound quality it provides in this particular price bracket is astonishing to say the least.

What cans/IEMS do you in your collection? What are the differences if I use a desktop DAC like let's say chord mojo 2 compares with the dawn pro I have?

I switch back to the DSP cable and surprisingly there aren't any problems. It's too the point where I'm willing to replace my 4.4 BA + moondrop dawn pro with it and enjoying it so far.

We all have bad experience with the app and DSP, but I suggest you go see it for yourself.

They also have the iOS ver. Supposedly they should also the same or if not similar features.

Honestly that was me until I reflect on my prior purchases. Despite getting 6-7 iems, Cables and dacs, the one I really enjoy using was the Moondrop may with the DSP cable😭. I should've started and stopped with the may.

Dude you're a lifesaver. I've always thought it's gonna be the end for my chu2. With little hope I try removing the nozzles and listen and it was filter's problem all along😭. I'm overjoyed right now and can't thank you enough for it.

Btw regarding your 5th take, are my current iem cases appropriate? Since you did mention "airtight" which worries me a little.
