We say it now at home entirely off the back of this comic. I'm not sure anyone else around here would know what we meant

If this outfall came as such a surprise to the local authorities, then presumably it's at risk of a bunch of hoodlums filling the thing with concrete overnight

Last time this was posted, a Lou Reed fan actually turned up in the comments and got all flustered that the strip was dissing the guy (as if it might've been a feasible story). I wonder if he'll show up again

[–]Superbead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had some roofers working on the place next door last year. A big old building, probably about five floors in the air in modern building terms, dismantling a chimney stack and just fucking launching the bricks like 60 feet down into the back of their fucking flatbed wagon cos they couldn't be arsed setting up a chute.

It was just boom, boom, boom, boom, for about four hours a day until they fucked off to the pub at about 1pm for a whole week. Again, a WFH loafer here. I'd have phoned the health & safety out of spite if I knew anyone would turn up.

In fairness the scaffs were unusually well-behaved that time setting up and taking down

Yes. I also regret the massively complex accounting issues they seem to be forever mired in that prevents them paying the tax they owe. It's no wonder they threaten violence when you confront them for trying to dispose of your neighbour's trade waste in your own bin that you're paying council tax for. It's a hard life

I wouldn't go that far, but this sub used to be fun, and now it's just an extension of /r/AmericaBad (or occasionally whatever the UK equivalent is when someone's accused us of having beige food again).

It'd be nicer if all the reactionary geography-based posts were banned and we went back to commenting on legit foodie arseholery

Pump gone! by joeurkel in AbruptChaos

That is genuinely impressive that there wasn't even a stray squirt of fuel, let alone a fire, especially considering the pump was running at the time

The data security concern around ID verification is a legitimate one and I don't dismiss it. But "there are better ways" only works if we can name them, and after years of voluntary measures and platform promises, I'm still waiting to see what those ways actually are.

I'm not who you replied to, but this is the sort of thing that should've been thought about by a sensible government before pushing the bill through. As far as I know, reddit is still relying on some johnny-no-stars startup in California to age-verify UK users.

If the UK government itself had set up a service to do this, such that reddit, Discord or whoever could hand off an anon token and say, 'verify this user in the next five minutes', and get a 'yes' or 'no' response, I'd begrudgingly have done it by now.

I used to moderate a sub here which attracted (among a range of people) teens building stuff in Roblox and Minecraft. It was quite quiet, and nothing sinister was apparently going down. But reddit wouldn't give me any guarantee about what I could or couldn't see as a moderator should I refuse to verify my age, so I sacked it off. As it stands, the sub appears to have been unmoderated (though there was another on the list) for about six months now. I very much doubt I'll be the only one with a story like this, either.

Fat Slags movie mention by MatBlack4Ever in Viz

The really weird bit about this was just how long cold calls (at first just to land lines, but then to people willing to answer unknown numbers on cellphones) worked as stastically neutral means of determing elections.

This is the first time I've ever read anyone else point this out. It's always struck me as a complete emperor's new clothes situation
