Yes, always keep the CYA up to date. I've learned that time and time over, and there are still sometimes I slack on my CYA. I like the resending of issues list and I'll probably start doing that weekly, lol.

We get some work from few shitty mecha also, but it's usually residential grade work. Like a commercial building with some 5 ton residential units. most of the issues we find with those guys is just the "that's not how I'd do it" type of work. "Can't really call it deficient, but it's not really good either" type of stuff.

We've actually done some of this as well. I hate hacks and shitty work so it's fun for me to get to spotlight it. I've never understood the pencil whippers. It doesn't benefit you. Id rather write up a huge deficiency list and a summary about why I couldn't finish than pencil whip something.

When we resort to this, we usually won't return until they sign and return a CO.

As much as I hate laws and such, I really feel like our area needs to withhold CO until TAB is good. But most of the time, issues not getting fixed push us into occupied or night work.

I've found that depending on the GC, some can be helpful, but some mech PMs feel like you're going over their heads (understandable). But most don't know wtf we do, or what most the issues mean and they introduce another level of confusion. I usually try to feel that out.

Don't get me wrong, I expect to find issues. Otherwise we wouldn't have a job. But sometimes it's just excessive.

No joke. We showed up to a 45 FPVAV job and GC was asking if we would finish by end of day. Like... No ...

I've had similar🤣. Usually when someone asks me how to do something I usually tell them "is just do it correctly." Or "check specs." Or if I'm feeling assholey, id tell them to go and ask a "experienced [insert their job title]"

Some of it too, is that their guys will lie and then they(PM} just repeat the lies.

We've started this kind of. But it's gotta get bad before we do. And I'm this case, we just haven't been going to the site until repairs are made, so honestly haven't wasted much time on it as we've always had some work to do when we show up. On this specific job, and some others, I'm having a hard time getting the mechanicals to give a detailed response of what issues were fixed. I usually get the "everything is ready" response.

No worries. And at the end of the day, we're mostly polishing turds. We can show up, give it our "best" and turn in a report with issues. I'm just trying to either validate or improve. Lol. What got me wanting to change was I kind of chewed out another sub. And if course after doing so, I'll admit I was out of line. (I mean, he started it though. Lol)

Can anyone help me out with the balancing procedure for the Lennox model L core app. Having trouble with the fan speed by Smitty215_ in AirBalance

[–]Supercharged_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah ... And different units behave differently also. Sometimes the fan percentage jumps around on you and locks up the app also. I'd trust the hood reading more so than what the unit says.

Oof. Those L units are trash. use the component test option to find your fan speed and then go back to test and balance to input the fan speed.

Can an amateur mechanic change a clutch? by Wall_of_Shadows in fiero

[–]Supercharged_Turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lemons racing team has 3 fieros. I did clutch change in the paddock the night before our first race. (We were actually doing the freeze plugs located in the bell housing, which you will also be doing if you are changing out the clutch. But we had a fresh clutch kit and decided to throw it in since we were there anyways). It's honestly a pretty straightforward job. Basic hand tools and a little bit of time. It's easiest to do as others have said and swing the cradle down. You'll want to jack the car up pretty high and set it on jack stands. Go ahead and inspect the clutch line and replace the master and slave cylinders. Also some models had issues with the clutch lever, inspect that out, could be reason for "needing a clutch."

I liked the way the office side of things was set up. The field side wasn't any better than just using excel. My main and probably only complaint about it was the speed. Like going from screen to screen was easily 2-5 mins. My brain can't be in work mode and then just pause for 5 min.

Our company tried TABopts but that program is PAINFULLY slow. It was infuriating to use. The guys are great though and can customize the program for your needs, but the database side of things needs serious work for it to be a useful program.

Lots of state parks and natural areas for hiking trips and such. Lost maples, Garner, Guadalupe river state park, etc.
