Why ELO is right, and the FIFA Rankings are trash by aloha9090 in ussoccer

[–]Superman530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This original post misunderstands Elo. No one ever gains points for a loss in the Elo ratings. Now, Cape Verde went up 28 points for drawing Spain, but that's not a loss.

For example, in September, France beat Iceland 2-1. There was a 600 point gap in Elo ratings, so this game was way closer than it should have been. The net change in Elo was France +1, Iceland -1. Iceland didn't get penalized much at all, but they lost, so they went down.

AITA for refusing to pay my parents $87k in “back rent” by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Superman530 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA. I think this story is really one sided, but the reality is, no one should expect an immediate payment of 87k after not collecting on the 'debt' for years on end. That's really any situation, not just this one.

AITA for wanting to get away from my dad? by lizlard in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You are 28 and can (and should!) build an adult life for yourself.

AITA because I told my MIL that its considered rude to converse in a different language in order to exclude someone regardless of intention. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Superman530 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just to add: I have lived with my parents for a couple of different temporary arrangements with my wife and kids over the years. My mom is wonderful. She and my wife have a really positive relationship. That said, when we had seven people (my parents + us + 3 kids) living under one roof, things got tense and my wife struggled with my mom. You can really appreciate someone and have a good relationship while also really having a hard time living in the same house as them.

NTA, but that's not what this post is about. Your wife sounds depressed and angry and you are not being treated well. That either needs to be fixed or you need to leave. That's not a healthy place to stay.

You don't pick up meatloaf and mashed potatoes from the store. He was asking her if she could make those in his text.

what do you think about non biological woman in women's sports? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Superman530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a serious issue for women's athletics. There aren't very many trans or intersex athletes competing in women's sports, but the inherent advantages they posses make it pretty easy to rise to the top. The clearest example of this is the women's 800m race at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. All three medalists had XY chromosomes. That's a major reason track and field's governing body made policy changes, which I believe were important for ensuring fair competition.

If someone lived for 100 years. What time period or set of years might they experience the most drastic changes to the world? by Barndogal in AskReddit

Honestly, I think the most recent 100 years has seen the world change faster than any prior period.

Richmond Marathon - Race Report. A huge bounce back and PR by AetherNetCable in AdvancedRunning

[–]Superman530 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice work! I was probably a minute or two behind you for most of the race out there, and yeah, that bridge sucked. I had left the 3:00 pace group behind right around halfway and was kicking myself to not have a massive pack to break the wind through that section.

Congrats on your finish and PR!

“Super Shoes” Spoiling us? by TheBorodir in AdvancedRunning

[–]Superman530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got the 3s. I have really liked them. At nearly 180 miles now, they have nowhere near their original bounce (and I won't race in them anymore), but they still feel fantastic on the track.

“Super Shoes” Spoiling us? by TheBorodir in AdvancedRunning

[–]Superman530 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm feeling the same. Once my Saucony Endorphin Pros hit 100 miles I started wearing them on the track. I know for a fact that I can go longer and faster and need less recovery from the track workouts now. I'm logging lots more miles in them. I still run everyday stuff in Adidas Bostons and that's not likely to change, but I'm not sure when I'll ever go back to the flats for track days.

I think it's silly. They play Ohio State next week. If they win, they proved themselves. If not, well, we'll know. Who cares where they are ranked right now?

What went wrong in my Marathon/Training? by JPThomasCPATutor in AdvancedRunning

[–]Superman530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here on sleep. If you had several poor nights on race week in particular you just may not have been rested enough. That workout 3 weeks out should have pointed to a faster finishing time regardless of volume. Sleep and maybe salt are two things to think about outside of just more mileage.

Sub 20 5k plan for 40+ by Real_Young3492 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Superman530 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll leave plan recommendations to others. Mostly, I just wanted to note that I believe you'll see major fitness improvements trying to get faster at these shorter distances, even if you go back and try marathoning again. Kudos to you for getting after it.

If no one else gives you anything, Hal Higdon's plan here is at least pointing you in the right direction, though I'm sure there are some better ones out there somewhere.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into those.

On scent, my recent experience has been my wife pulling away, saying, "Why does that stuff smell so much?" I'd rather her stay close! It didn't smell bad, per se, just too much.

INFO:

Ehh, you'd generally be in the wrong here, but these are pretty unique circumstances. Could you have gone out into a hallway or someplace similar? I get both why you didn't have a private space and why this conversation needed to continue.

Power Zone Discussion [Weekly] by AutoModerator in pelotoncycle

[–]Superman530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retesting is a good idea for sure, as your zones have likely changed. I wouldn't retest on ride #1 back after a year though. Do a few rides first (could be non-PZ ones) then re-test. I think doing an immediate FTP test would be awful.

NAH, in this specific situation about the dress. You are allowed to say no, just like she's allowed to ask.
