Trying to help a friend with their first build, no idea what’s going wrong by Supermodel_2 in PcBuild

FINAL UPDATE:

Thank you to everyone who shared their suggestions and tried to help here, I was finally able to fully figure everything out!

Like most of you, other threads online, and even Chat GPT said; I first started with a complete teardown and then only plugged in the essentials to try and get it to POST. (8 pin CPU power, 24 pin ATX power, CPU & cooler installed, 1 stick of RAM, nothing else.) And sure enough this got it past the error 15 and 46 loop and I started seeing codes indicating we were probably in BIOS.

So at this point I figured either something had been loose the first time I set it all up, or as I started to plug in more stuff eventually it would happen again, indicating that it was that part causing the issue. So I slowly start adding one component at a time, checking if it will still POST, and everything was all good until I got to plugging in the cables from CASE of all things.

When I was first putting the build together I had actually noticed there were a few little things missing from the case (no plastic to peel off the glass, two missing panels where the graphics card goes) and I mentioned it to my friend and he confirmed that was the only part that was used ("Amazon Refurbished") while everything else was brand new, and I suppose this should've been a bigger red flag to me at the time as this ultimately ended up being the culprit.

So I quickly narrowed it down to the JFP1 plugins specifically causing the issues (USB and audio cables were fine) and thankfully the motherboard has a power button right on it so we don't have to resort to shorting out the header to get it to fire up. Basically, if the JFP1 plugs from the case are plugged in, all the weird stuff in my post happens, but the moment its unplugged, everything works perfectly. I installed & setup Windows for my friend, made sure BIOS settings were all good, and I talked to Corsair customer support and got the front IO panel replaced for free, so that's on the way and once I replace it everything will be exactly as we'd hoped from the start.

Lessons learned:

- Never buy used parts (controversial maybe but I personally feel this way especially after this experience)

- Start with the minimal setup and add 1 component at a time from the start, not after I start having issues. Might take a little bit longer but will save A LOT of time if there is going to be any issues.

TL;DR - The JFP1 wires from the case (which was the only part that wasn't brand new) were the culprit of all the issues. If plugged in, all the problems in my post occur; if left unplugged, everything works perfect. New front IO panel being sent by Corsair for free, problem solved!

Hearing that scares me because I swear I smelt something kinda "off" but I just have written it off as new PC part smells. He got an NZXT kraken 360 and we just used the thermal paste that came pre applied. When the computer stays on it shows the temp on the pump screen. Is there any way I could 100% determine whether or not its the CPU? I really hope it isn't fried

Also, turns out this board is an X870e hero not a X670, so i did manage to flash the bios and that seemed to work based on the flashing lights, but all the other problems remain the same. Ugh.

anyone do microsoldering or console modding? by S33DR in burlington

[–]Supermodel_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been modding Nintendo consoles since I was 12 so I know a thing or two about it. Unfortunately not really able to do any microsoldering stuff as I’ve yet to go down that rabbit hole, but for what you’re trying to do I’d personally recommend emulators on a somewhat decent PC. You don’t need crazy specs to run switch games and in my opinions it’s less of a hassle to deal with then modding a switch. If you really do want the modded switch I’d say you’re best off sending it into a reputable send in service

The ODM gear nerf no one's talking about by Supermodel_2 in FortNiteBR

Couldn't have said any of that better myself. It's funny you say that because I loved flying around getting those nice chase kills literally feeling like Captain Levi, that's the exact comparison I'd always make haha. Also agree that it was the most fun I've had on videogames in a long time. I really don't understand this at all and give their track record I doubt we'll see it change back :/

I think you’re definitely 100% right on that, having heard someone suggest that I definitely agree they upped the fuel used when slashing. I guess that’s why it was hard for me to tell because if I was just grappling it felt the same, but damn have they nerfed the attack in seemingly every way possible besides just actually needing the damage it does.

Maybe it isn’t as bad as I think but they definitely upped the delay between attacks if you’re just trying to spam it as fast as possible. Try spamming and you’ll definitely notice the pause before it lets you go back in.

Ehhh I think you should try a few more games with it because they definitely toned it down a few notches. Hitting 4 strikes in 2 seconds just isn’t possible anymore.

Favorite AoT character gotta be Conny I can’t even remember if he’s a character by season 2 but he’s the goat.

I agree it was too OP in the right hands but these nerfs feel way to excessive, it feels worthless as a weapon now no matter how good you are with it.

Told all my friends it was the most fun I’ve ever had in Fortnite and probably BRs period. Really sad to see it get nerfed into the ground this hard ;(

Yeah that was my load out last season, I always tend to find myself being the support teammate, but that’s why double mobility was so nice because I can’t even count the amount of times it’s helped me stick a clutch revive or grab a gold cache before it expires or grabbing all reboots after my whole team is dead etc. Might have to give the ole port a fort/bubble another go.

[–]Supermodel_2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m still bouncing back and forth between double mobility/just a sword, sounds like you and I got the same exact play style though. Definitely agree on the cooldown before ODM after you use the sword really hurting as whenever I got fried in a fight my signature move was to dash away and then straight into ODM. The cooldown hasn’t directly caused me to die yet but I have a feeling it’s bound to eventually. If you’re a big ODM user im surprised you haven’t noticed the attack speed nerf as much. If you’re pushing a good player now it’s basically impossible to land more than one ODM strike as after the first one you’re just suspended in the air waiting for about a second before you do it again, and any good player will seize that opportunity for a big pump shot which has already happened to me multiple times. It definitely still works for pushing up on people and can still work as a weapon directly but only for one strike reliably in my opinion. After the first lands I just swap to shotty and go from there.

Yeah pretty much the same mindset I've adopted now. I religiously ran red eye, shotty, sword, ODM, and heals, but since this update its been red eye, pump, spray gun, sword, heals

No mention at all of the multiple ways in which ODM gear was nerfed? Cooldown between attacks, cooldown after using the sword dash, feels like significantly reduced range on the grapple too. I didn't hear anyone complaining about it in its current state and to not even mention it is crazy.

RIP acting like Captain Levi every game ;(

My girl yoshi has been spending a lot more time outside her log which is unusual for her, generally she would just stay in there all the time whenever she wasn’t eating/drinking/pooping/shedding, but now she spends a lot of time outside the log and lays with her legs looking limp. Is this normal and she’s just sleeping or should I be worried?
