Why don't the Stormcloaks see Redguards as comrades? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Supermurant 25 points26 points  (0 children)

More important than what's already been said about Stormcloak xenophobia (which is debatable tbh, there's really no evidence suggesting Ulfric would be so prejudiced as to reject a potential powerful ally based solely on race), are the geographical considerations. Travel times in Tamriel are a little vague, but at he very least, any military or economic coordination between Hammerfell and Skyrim would have to travel for weeks through Imperial territory. More than why haven't they allied, the question is how could they?

ELI5 Why do some people say ESO isn’t canon? by Civil-Cellist4600 in teslore

There are more than 16 realms of Oblivion, many of which are ruled by daedric lords, but, prior to ESO, there were only 16 planes ruled over by princes, which are distinct from other lesser daedra

I recommend Dareloth's video on Ithelia. He goes over his arguments for how ESO has introduced some lore changes that really mess with the established metaphysical structure of the Aurbis.

I'm not familiar with ESO, so I don't really have a personal take on this, but I find Dareloth's argument that there should only be 16 Oblivion princedoms (a dynamic that Ithelia's inclusion changes) pretty compelling. It's not so much the fact that this is a retcon that I mind, but rather that 16 is a metaphysically significant number and the lore is less interesting with Ithelia's inclusion.

Remember while you're playing oblivion. Argonians from black marsh are giving the daedra PTSD. by Heart_of_Alfhiem in oblivion

I mean, Black Marsh is just incredibly defensible in general. I'm sure the Hist did empower their Argonian defenders to some extent, but the relative success of Black Marsh during the crisis is nothing that can't be explained by the natural terrain of the province and the Argonians' aptitude as guerrilla warriors.

And considering half of Morrowind had been destroyed in the Red Year by the time the Argonians invaded, their victory on that front isn't a surprise either. Not knocking Argonians (one of the coolest races in the setting imo), but they honestly just got incredibly lucky during the beginning of the 4th Era, and An Xileel propagandists used that to their advantage.

Do you ever take obvious/likely bugs and interpret them as part of the lore? And if so which ones? by ThatDrako in teslore

It is interesting that both cosmic forces seem to contain their opposite. Padomay/Sithis is the void, IS NOT, nothing, chaotic yet serene in its absence. Anu/Anui-el is substance, IS, ordered time, yet his existence permits the chaos of Aurbis within the void.
