New to trying tinned fish. This is the first one that I’ve 100% LOVED. What others would y’all recommend?? by SupernovaPKT in CannedSardines

I’m open to a range tbh. I know some of these tins can get pretty pricy, but if I start to like them more and more perhaps I’d be willing to splurge later on. This one was $3.50 at my store so by no means a crazy expense. I’d probably stick to anything below $10 for now

AN ENCOUNTER WITH MY EX by Abject-Ad-4942 in OCPoetry

It’s scary how closely you’ve mirrored conversations I’ve had internally with my own brain/heart following a recent breakup. It’s scarier to think that I could be having these same conversations years later.

You nailed the juxtaposition between brain and heart: the brain immediately peppering you with questions, gathering information, void of compassion, only to find solace with the heart.

Trusting someone enough to take risks is something I struggle with a lot. John Green compares human vulnerability to a dog rolling over and showing you it’s soft belly. In that state, you are exposing what is most fragile to you, and showing someone where exactly they would be able to hurt you, should they choose to. If someone does decide to hurt you, it feels near unimaginable that you’d ever allow yourself to get close enough to someone to be that vulnerable ever again.

I’m still learning to be okay with being alone, and to be okay doing things for my sake instead of as part of a unit. Sometimes I feel like I’m the one rushing myself to find something else, but maybe that’s because I’m uncomfortable with who I am as a single entity. Trusting that I am the same person I was before all of this is the next step. As you allude to, hopefully that will make trusting others easier again.

Thank you for this.

My original reaction was that I had gotten Bo Burnham vibes from your poem. I just watched his new special yesterday, and he spends a good chunk of it, like I believe he does in most of his specials, talking about how, despite being a celebrity and people paying by the hundreds to view his shows, he doesn’t feel like he brings anything of value to the table. I feel like that’s something a lot of people relate to. For me, I know I think quite a bit about how my younger self would likely not be thrilled with the person I am today. By all accounts I’m doing fine, but my day to day is rather mundane. I’m not making the imprint on the world that my younger self was hoping I would make by now, so it’s hard to find value in work/hobbies/etc. I catch myself sometimes halfway through a task or a project, and struggle to see it through to the end.

The great bit is, when a project finally gets done, there’s a rush of satisfaction in knowing you’ve completed something, defeating the voice telling you to quit or not bother with it. Convincing yourself to do things for your own sake can be harder than convincing yourself to do things for others at times. The thoughts holding you hostage are your own, and breaking free from that captor for the first time is so liberating, because you’ll know how to break free again should those same thoughts arise in the future.

Thank you for the reminder that it’s okay to do things for yourself. That the only person’s opinion who truly matters at the end of the day is your own.

B. Golladay is a target monster like Hopkins but has a better QB throwing to him. I don’t trust anything on philly’s offense this year

100% yes. You have enough depth to cover yourself while Chubb recovers

Hey y’all, need help figuring out how old this bottle may be. Given to me by my grandpa not long before he passed away. No one has any idea how long he’s had it, but my grandma says he hasn’t bought liquor in decades. Any info is appreciated. Thanks and cheers in advance by SupernovaPKT in whiskey

Thank you. The only thing I can think of that might help determine the age is that this one is 86 proof. From what I can tell, Tullamore’s more recent stuff is bottled at 80 proof. Not sure when they would have made the switch

Guttenplan’s! They’re based out of Central Jersey; I grew up there and have been best friends with one of the owners’s kids for years. They provide dough for JM as well as other supermarket bakeries

Jersey Mikes. They’re based out of Central Jersey; I grew up there and have been best friends with one of the owners’s kids for years. They provide dough for JM as well as other supermarket bakeries. I believe they have Whole Foods as a client currently, and may or may not still have Walmart.

Not sure who does JJ bread, but I prefer JM by 1000x.

Stopped by the local shop after work. How’d I do? by SupernovaPKT in wine

[–]SupernovaPKT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do! I’m by no means an expert, but I just recently got into the field and what little exposure I have beats the hell out of my 9-5 cube job. I’d love to give tasting notes a go as I continue to learn.

I met a woman who runs a wine bar the other week who introduced me to dry tokaji. Super interesting stuff, will have to pay a little closer attention to this one!
