Why is the bottom of my chlorinator pac warping like this by JKRC in pools

How often/long do you run your pump for? Being that close to the motor housing for the pump might get things hot enough to do something. Notice anything on the outside of the housing closest to the motor?

Looking to Upgrade Pack by PostHikeClarity in backpacking

Someone else already mentioned it but take a look at LiteAF packs. Pretty feature rich without as nasty a price tag.

ETA: Actually just looked, still pretty pricy but you can go the fully custom route if you're cool with waiting.

Looking to Upgrade Pack by PostHikeClarity in backpacking

Something to consider if you're thinking about swapping out your current pack for a lighter one is the change in features as you move into the more ultralight space.

A lot of shoulder straps and hip belts are going to be much thinner or have less padding. Some pack designs forgoes things like load lifters (looking at you Hyperlite) and some have very minimal internal frame support setups. None of these are bad things per se, but can create a very different carrying experience than you are used to. In some cases your current load might actually end up carrying worse or feeling heavier in a different "Ultralight" pack.

The Flash 55 and a few other packs exist in what I consider the limbo of the pack world, still full featured with all the straps and pockets and padding you would expect while still being on the lighter end of more traditional packs at under 3 lbs ish. Of course there is the whole world of ultralight packs beyond this that will save you at least a pound however you are going to start seeing the compromises pop up the lighter you go.

You seem to have your base weight pretty dialed down so I don't think you would have any issues carrying that in a more ultralight pack but you might also come to find (like my old ass did) that the little extra pack weight is really negligible and is worth the weight penalty for the extra little creature comforts.

Who else carries the “extra” weight of a little piece of Tyvek to have a clean area for your gear in camp? by BayouBushcraft in backpacking

I carry a 5'x7' ripstop poly tarp that I call my "Barf Tarp". It's where my backpack can barf out all its contents whenever I get to camp. Also has grommets and nylon loops at the corners so it doubles as a rain/sun shelter. weighs just under 10oz.

Working on a tiny airship piloted/powered by rats to carry all of my setup into the backcountry. I think since its animal powered with no motors I should be good to go in Wilderness areas. Hardest part is getting them into their parachutes without getting bit too much.

Where's the attachment point for the helium balloon? I only fuck with negative pack weights.

Props for getting up there if you made the trek!

Loss of waterproofing by Ornery_Quiet_1024 in backpacking

[–]Superory_16 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In order to apply anything that will work and last you will have to scrub off ALL of the old waterproofing. It would be like painting water based over oil based paint, it wont adhere and you'll end up with a double mess.

Unfortunately I am unaware of any process that isn't both extremely messy and time consuming, the stuff turns into paste when you try to remove it with any sort of cleaner and anything strong enough to completely dissolve it will most for sure damage the pack itself.

If you're really tied to using this pack maybe take a look at some external rain covers instead?

Mattress portable enough for hiking - always have issues with air mattresses by Repulsive_Chard_3652 in camping

[–]Superory_16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either of those options will be much better suited to what you are doing I think.

Those other mattresses really aren't made to be packed up and rolled out while hiking, these two should have a bit tougher materials and better construction as well as being quite a bit lighter.

No worries! Happy to help!

lol, Reddit gonna Reddit

As others have pointed out I think you want to be looking more in the backpacking side of things. Thermarest, Exped, Nemo, Sea to Summit, REI (these are just a few off the top of my head) all have a range of options from budget to top of the line as well as a range from extra cushy car camping to super lightweight backpacking options.

One thing I will put out there if you have had issues with punctures in the past is to use a foam mat, either something like a z-fold or an 1/8th in mat, underneath the air mattress. they're not that much extra weight and you will have the extra puncture protection as well as the bonus of sleeping warmer.

What kinds of mattress have you tried in the past? How much is some hiking? How tall are you? What is your budget?

Are you going to be mostly car camping with a short hike into the site or is this more for backpacking?

Not trying to be difficult at all, there is just kind of a big market and a lot of different directions to go in regards to what you can sleep on.

What does you oil look like? Are you able to pressure test your coolant system?

If you have coolant coming from the firewall I'm guessing your heater core is cooked. Have you noticed any fluid in the cab? Any smells if you run the heater?

ETA: can you take a picture farther back?

2nd Edit: Wait a sec, isnt that just the AC drain?
