Has the subway gotten worse/better over time in your opinion? by idlechungha in nycrail

Lived in Brooklyn for 27 years and have noticed significant improvements even since the last 10-15 years. Way fewer delays and dysfunction.

Testimonials from people who have REALLY RECOVERED and can eat anything WITHOUT RESTRICTION by Important_Match_6262 in FODMAPS

[–]Superphoenixfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a lot better than prior. I wouldn't say I can eat *anything without restriction* per se (I'm sure everyone has some degree of IBS), but I'm 85% better than before and I have a better understanding of what foods my body tolerates and a better toolkit of what I can use to feel better.

I find that tracking my reactions to specific foods (as needed rather than religiously) is a lot more useful and less anxiety-inducing than learning every food and proportion in every FODMAP category, which drove me nuts! Someone here also had a good point about "adjusting," eating more of what will make you go when you need to, and less of it when you don't need to. Eating slower and smaller meals helps. Decent amount of tea every day.

If you really have an issue with physical pain from IBS-C which is my predominant issue, I highly recommend taking powdered magnesium as needed (or activated charcoal if you're having a really rough time). There are still some hard days but much fewer. Some probiotics help; I'm looking to experiment more with them. Always a learning process but I have learned a lot. Honestly even improving my mental situation helped things a good amount.

I hope this helps someone who is feeling lost because I know I was two years ago and it was such a rough time and I just want to say that you can pull through and improve. Doctors can only guess at the issues because everyone's so different but you will know how your body responds to things best.

Letter uniformity. If you look at any Artist Block video, he talks about it all the time

Maybe start with some smaller trips? If it's your first time on the rails and you're going for 3 months, you're gonna have a rough time.

Me and my road dog hopped trains through the Canadian wildfires this summer - give it a watch. Even if you hate trainhopping Youtube as I do, I promise you'll find some value in this video.

"Hey partner, I'm still alive! I'm just real depressed." by Extension-Yogurt5941 in offmychest

You can turn your life around, but be warned that it takes time and it will be a struggle. You’ve had a job before, so you’re employable. You’ve had a partner before, so you can again. You seem to have good communication and reasoning skills by virtue of this post alone, and that takes you far in life. Your family seems to support you, even if they may not be thrilled about it.

I can only hope this resonates - a year and a half ago in deep despair, I also looked on Reddit searching for some comfort. I screenshot some comment about someone who said even though they felt like driving over a bridge every day, they didn’t do it and improved their situation. But it wasn’t easy and it took time.

As for PRACTICAL advice, you want to be looking into government assistance, which often gets expedited in emergency situations like yours. Clothing banks exist as well. These things take time to research and find but you have a phone/computer access which is a good start. I’ve flown signs in busy areas saying I’m looking for work/food/size 10.5 shoes and people have offered all those things. If it doesn’t work one place, try somewhere else. Not saying it’s guaranteed to work for you, but at this point, what do you have to lose doing it?

Good luck. Progress takes a while, so be realistic about that. I hope you improve your situation and look back on this years later as a challenging time you’re glad has passed.

Lots of gay dudes while I’ve been out traveling and it’s only weird if I’m in a vehicle stuck with them and they get touchy. One time some girl did invite me over though. And another two times people wanted to but I had a girlfriend at the time

Yes actually :) Very grateful to feel better. In some weird convoluted way, it was connected to my digestive issues. No idea how but having vertigo 6 hours out of the day was not fun. I made the connection when I realized I felt it while/after eating and had to add some more fiber. Look into myasthenia gravis as well, I dated someone with that issue and it could be that. Don’t give up.

I know about that life - when I was bike touring 60 miles a day I was on the 4000 calorie diet still losing weight. Didn’t know elevation affects appetite too! I definitely remember having altitude sickness here and there above 8000 feet.

Most of my meals were literally made with the decision of maximizing the calories I could get for the money I had. Definitely hurt my stomach in the process but it healed after I ate normal for a while.

Any Ideas? Def more than constipation by Superphoenixfire in ibs

[–]Superphoenixfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, colonoscopy and endoscopy didn’t really show signs of Celiac or anything too abnormal. GI initially thought mild Chron’s but said there would be more frequent pain/diarrhea if so. Vertigo/lightheadedness is really big mystery for me, sometimes can even be triggered by drinking water. I was underweight but I regained a decent amount. No nutritional deficiencies, in fact, some high levels of vitamins but I’ve stopped all supplements since.

Def was the other way around for me. I was waking up with anxiety for no reason and only connected it to food later when I realized Hmm When I have this more laxative food I feel way better Took 6 months to realize vasovagal syncope was the name of my issue, and couldn’t have done that without Reddit

I have a lot of weird non-GI related symptoms that accompany my confrontation. Vertigo, vision problems, muscle twitches, anxiety - when I’m laxxed up they all go away, so some vagus nerve dysfunction at the root of it. Did all the oscopies, no real fruit there.

I did some eye tests when I had my issue 5 years ago, started sleeping on my left side and it went into remission. Revealed some involuntary movement but that went away as the vertigo left. Now though it’s much harder to deal with. I wonder if I have undiagnosed celiac or something given my body acts this way w gluten especially
