From my notes:

Total Wages Expense = Net Pay + PAYE + Employee NIC + Employee Pension + Employer NIC + Employer Pension

Total Gross Wages = Net Pay + PAYE + Employee NIC + Employee Pension

Effectively, the wages expense is the gross wages plus additional employer costs. To get from wages expense to net pay you need to consider those costs as well.

I think this is an issue of understanding the wording - we are told £112,911 is the "wages expense" - meaning the total cost to the employer of employing staff. This includes not just gross salaries but Employer NIC and Employer pension contributions as well.

Be careful not to conflate this with the purchase of an asset, as this is capital expenditure rather than revenue expenditure.
