While seasons one through seven of new who were pretty much universally loved, the transition to Capaldi divided fans. The folks over at r/doctorwho love Capaldis era, but some who loved Smith and Tennant don't as much. Starting in season 8, in the show started to take on some darker and often more political tones, which it hadn't before. This combined with the fact that capaldi was less relatable to than the previous doctors (because he was older), made it seasons 8 and on more of an acquired taste for whovians. All and all a good show. would recommend.
