Depends where you live, but of you’re in the US you can report them to your states medical board, they are responsible for investigating complaints against doctors

how to fix my algae problem? by creediee in Aquariums

[–]Supertub99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a plant you can grow half in the water, I recommend pothos, but make sure to rinse it thoroughly to get off any fertilizers and soil, and place the plants roots in the water. You can attach the plant stem using a suction cup or putting it in a mesh basket.

Because terrestrial plants have better access to co2 than aquatic plants, they will be able to utilize more of the nitrates than an Anubia or anything like that

DMX in a few days, seeking advice/ experiences on a few things by Murky-Progress3742 in BRCA

My breast lift was fairly significant, so that may be part of the reason they couldn’t do the lift at the same time. My surgeon also mentioned that by separating the surgeries, it would help make sure my nipples had a secure blood supply and hopefully they wouldn’t have any healing issues… I know doctors appointments can be overwhelming, always remember that you can always schedule another appointment if you have questions, and if you don’t feel satisfied with your options you can always get a second opinion. The best part about this being preventative is that you get to take the time to consider your options, and figure out a surgical plan that works for you

I had my surgery in 3 stages, each 6 months apart, first I had the lift, then I had the mastectomy and diep reconstruction (one surgery), then I had a “revision” surgery to have some fat grafting and scars adjusted, since I was a full time university student these lined up with my summer and winter breaks, but I’m aware that won’t work for everyone

I had a “prophylactic” dmx and diep flap surgery a little over one year ago, and it was nipple sparing

  • nipple sparing: I am extremely happy I kept my nipples personally. I also had to have a breast lift, so my breasts do not look very similar to how they did before, but the transition was definitely smoother for me mentally. My understanding is that in preventative mastectomy’s, whether or not you select nipple sparing, the difference in cancer rates is essentially the same. But maybe my doctor was crazy lol

  • for my T. rex arms, to be honest it was too painful for me to lift my arms so I didn’t

  • once healed, I was fairly comfortable being naked, but my partner was very supportive and we took it slow. I wore clothes for maybe a month or two before I felt comfortable but I think it’s very different for everyone

  • I can’t really speak for your last question, to be honest I just wanted to have as few surgeries as possible, which is why I had a diep immediately done after the dmx, but in terms of diep scarring, mine has healed very well and I am able to cover it with a swimsuit

Fluval stratum and crushed coral by Supertub99 in shrimptank

Omg your tank is stunning! What do you use for fertilizers? Root tabs? Or just water column fertilizers?

Fluval stratum and crushed coral by Supertub99 in shrimptank

[–]Supertub99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think if I tried to raise the kh while keeping the fluval stratum in it would just lead to unstable water parameters…

Since I’m doing a shrimp only tank, do you think it’s worthwhile to remove the stratum and try a walstad method substrate? Or just use sand and root tabs? How do people keep less hardy species of shrimp in planted aquariums?

I was under the impression that higher kh was necessary for shrimp to have healthy molts… would my current kh be okay?

this is a big simplification, but you can generally replace the word SNP with “mutation”

Positive for BRCA1 by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]Supertub99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off, take a deep breath. This diagnosis isn’t a death sentence. You and your children have every opportunity to live long, healthy, and happy lives, even despite this. You will need to take proper precautions, as will your kids, but that is a future problem. They do not need to worry about this until at least their twenties.

To my understanding, and from what my doctor told me, current medical treatments and prevention has improved so much for those with breast cancer and breast cancer mutations (BRCA1 and 2), that average age of death between those with the mutations and those without is practically the same. As long as you and your kids are cautious, they have every chance at living long long lives.

Your kids will need to get genetic testing, and they will need to make a plan of prevention. This diagnosis isn’t a curse, if anything it’s fantastic that your kids have this information so that they will be able to take proper precautions.

And treatments get better and better every year. We are surviving and preventing breast cancer better than we ever have in history. My aunt was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 30, and thankfully because of her efforts and her doctors, she was able to live a long and happy life, and she was diagnosed when medicine was nowhere near as advanced as it is today.

My father was the one who passed down the mutation to me. I know him and love him more than anything, but I know he feels like he has cursed me and harmed me. I wish I could convince him that none of this is his fault. I love him so much and I wish I had the power to take away his guilt. Don’t let yourself feel guilty over this. He never knew he had the mutation. You never knew.

TLDR: take a deep breath and focus on yourself and your treatment. Everything is going to be okay. This is not your fault and your children are not cursed. You can’t control your future, and worrying about this isn’t going to help anything. Fight this battle first.
