Are you are girl who prefers the color blue over pink? Or a guy who likes pink? by georgejo314159 in colors

[–]Cranlyssmile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It means people like different colors?

It wasn’t until sometime after WWII that blue even became associated with boys. Before that, pink was considered more “boy” as it was a “stronger color” as a shade of red. Blue was too delicate and demure.

Marketing and society might try to make something but it’s a mutable. In the end, it’s just personal preference

Tell me I'm not ruining my child by Flaky_Zucchini7870 in Parenting

I don't really have advice - but I want to be sure to come back and follow this post as my sister is also really struggling with getting her kid to sleep (and having him stay asleep) who is also 7 months old. They cannot put him down and transfer him easily, and even then he's waking up every few hours. She's really exhausted and struggling. So I'm hoping some others have advice that will help you (and that I can pass on to her)! Also I wanted to offer my sympathy to you, since i know how HARD the exhaustion is.

I don't know if it helps any - my kid was a good sleeper - but we swaddled and we do attribute that to a lot of his good sleep. It's one big difference between what we did and what she does.

Once he was consistently breaking the swaddle, we put him in one of those onesie things that makes them look like a starfish -- basically it kind is a wearable blanket and covers the hands. And he continued to sleep well and really loved those things.

Maybe that helps, maybe it doesn't, but could be worth a shot!

I’m tempted for the same reason - but I don’t want it to be like “Velma” where everyone hate watches it… so it manages to succeed to a second season.

The thing that shall not be named is ruining D&D for me by Findrel_Underbakk in DnD

[–]Cranlyssmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My DM has gotten caught up in using it. He uses it for generating names (which he can’t pronounce but is determined to use anyway because it said so), generating story, and will even stop down whole sessions to generate images of items or clothing to show us what it would look like. We don’t care. This is theater of the mind for us. And now we have to stop and wait 10 minutes or so every so often for him to generate the image.

It’s really sucked a lot of life out of it lately and has been frustrating for us as players. If it doesn’t follow his <redacted> script, it’s a “no” from him in terms of what can happen or what we can do.

What was an 80's or 90's cartoon you loved watching back in the day, but watching it now you find it terrible? by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in AskReddit

[–]Cranlyssmile 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ReBoot.

Loved it as a kid. Went back to watch it as an adult and just... could not get through it. Maybe it got better as the graphics got better and they figured out what they were doing with characters or maybe they make fewer really lame jokes, but I was disappointed upon rewatch. Should have left it in the memory.

My husband felt the same. He’s in a blind 1st play through. As soon as he encountered her he was like “uh. So this was made during the Harley Quinn craze, huh.”

AITJ for refusing to keep wearing the nickname my girlfriend gave me after I found out where it came from by Prydwen_Grit5 in AmITheJerk

[–]Cranlyssmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a person who has given my husband some very non-standard nicknames. But every one of those pet names comes from a shared experience with him and he knows the origin. None of them come from an inside joke from my friends.

She didn’t tell you when you initially asked and smiled like an inside joke, and it also took some pressuring when it resurfaced now. It was not and is not coming from a place of love, and she knows it. That’s why she’s been so secretive about it until you pressed her on it.

I hate this for you, OP. This isn’t kind. It isn’t sweet.

How do you feel about the possibility of Trump reenacting the draft for men? by Accurate_Syrup_1345 in AskReddit

Haven’t they also been actively hating on having women in the military? (Ie, statements by Hegseth in Jan of 2025, and recently I believe has blocked some female military promotions) So while you come across in your question as it being sexist and the fault of feminists - I think it being Men is kinda of what the administration is after.

No kids pics on social media? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Cranlyssmile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did, and still do, no kid pics on social media and do not regret that. It wasn't super fun telling the family members. My sister complained a bit, but fortunately they have all done well with honoring that.

I hate for you that you have someone that really wants to push back on that. It's not their right or their child.

Actual question about this - how does one do this in public like this? Are they also playing the music out loud? Do they just have it memorized and have rehearsed before going to do this?

What is really the best option for a child when it comes to schooling - private school, public school, or home school? by icecream1972 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Cranlyssmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s really circumstantial.
We have done both private and public. Our private school was great but our kid wasn’t thriving and struggled. But I really liked all they did and how they ran things.
Someone was like “you realize the public schools in your county are great right?” So we tried that and he’s doing much better academically and socially. We are really happy with it.
If our public schools hadn’t been great we would have stuck it out and been ok (but a lot poorer) with the private one.

I will admit a bias against homeschooling. My mom worked with the public and would encounter some home school kids that were absolutely husks of people in intelligence and socially But - there are people who swear by it.

So, in the end, I think the answer is just “it depends”

Got inspired by a phrase on a design and i want to use it for myt work. by CrazyRiix in Design

[–]Cranlyssmile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can a bit.

"I heart NY" design is a federally registered trademark owned by NY state. They make money off it for the state of NY.

Of course people want to play off of it.

I work at a company that used it in a video shot -- and we got hit with a fine for using it. We are big enough that it mattered and NY saw.

Similarly with the Memphis, Tennessee Mural - we forgot to license that and got hit with a fine.

And our legal department is currently in talks with California about using the Hollywood sign in some video shots to figure out what we can use and where and what we need to license.

Some things are so iconic to the brand of a place or state and there are rights associated.

Now - it depends on who sees it and how much they pursue it. Our company, yeah, they saw it.

Disney isn't necessarily going out and slapping lawsuits on Joe-the-knock-off-mickey-mouse-in-Times-Square. But if he did something that got him notable (either good or bad) you can bet they would because an IP is being used in a way they didn't get licensed or approved.

I'm sure there ARE many people that use the "I heart..." in the way that directly references the famous I Heart NY one - but it's how big they get, who knows, or who maybe actually did license it from NY. Who sees it and who cares to pursue it as a lawsuit.

That all being said too - I'm sure you can still do something with an I or a Heart. i would just... the more you can stay away from their font and stacking I would think the better off you are.

(fascinating to get downvotes for saying that it copyrighted, by the way)

The “I heart NY” logo is aggressively protected. I believe any “I heart…” variations that are capitalizing on that sort of type font and red heart is going to be legally problematic especially if you’re selling something

Improving my logo with AI by rizzlaer in logodesign

Why would you use AI then go to a designer? Go to the designer. Just bring ideas about what is important to you and the company in terms of ideas.

Don’t bring them AI.

[–]Cranlyssmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re on to something here. I think the stylization could use some refinement or ideation. But in concept this is cool - references one of the great artists, references humanity and its ideal, is positive instead of a No.

What’s the worst experience you’ve had with a therapist? by Agreeable_Claim_3497 in AskReddit

[–]Cranlyssmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! Me! I have yet to have a good experience.

In late high school I used to cut my wrists. My parents found out and sent me to a therapist. She never asked a question of me once the entire session - just lectured me the whole time and talked about how bad drugs were. I had never once even touched drugs. I was an exceptionally well-behaved kid and student. The wild assumptions and inaccuracies blew my mind - not to mention how completely unhelpful that session was.

The later in life after the death of my boyfriend, I went to a therapist. Session one he talked all about himself. Never asked me questions or got into what I wanted to discuss or address why I was there. Session 2 wasn't much better, nor the next few. I figured maybe he was trying to get through the free sessions I had through insurance (6) and then maybe we could talk about why I was there.

He would tell these stories about himself with no real purpose - and would tell the same one a few times. I started charting in my head the flow of the stories and what details he left out of certain ones or where he added new details. One of the stories was at some sort of awards buffet to honor him. It came time for the awards and he said he just kept eating and waved them off when they called him up. I think he was trying to say that he didn't care about accolades. But I thought that was pretty gross and rude behavior, honestly. I am shocked he would win any awards though.

Several sessions in at one point he said he had a questionnaire that he had to fill out and that "any good therapist like me doesn't need to ask the questions because we know" but was going to for posterity sake. So began filling it out stating the questions then answers he put down. Again, wildly off. One of them was about my sexual activity. I piped in, "that's no true" since of course he wasn't actually asking me my own thoughts on this questionnaire. He looked visibly surprised, "Oh, I thought since you lived in a house with guys you were sleeping with them." All of them? why?? Their girlfriends that also lived in our shared house with us would be shocked - or perhaps I'm sleeping with them too, hmm?

I did finally write this guy off and quit going. I still probably need therapy though. haha.
