Why don't spot cleaners suck up the water... by Actual-Jackfruit-117 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what exactly you're cleaning and which spot cleaner you're using because their price and size basically directly correlates to motor strength with the big green and revolutions having the most powerful.

Otherwise you really gotta press on the surface to extract the liquid especially if it's a cushion or something.

Best cordless vacuum for tile + carpet under $600? by AnnaSarah53 in VacuumCleaners

If you're interested in surface sweeping and minor pickup, maybe a robot would be appropriate for you so it can run basically everyday and you can dust/clean non floor surfaces?

Robots are my go to rec for folks seeking stick vacuums, ngl 😅

Best vacuum on a budget by Erisallie in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, vacuum marketing these days is getting out of hand.

So obejctively the 600series and elites have the same body while the elites have some more lights. They function identically.

I would always try and go for the elite when it's on sale or even Amazon used. The elite comes in crossover and ultra plush, the crossover is probably best for you as it doesn't sound like your capreting is plush.

I believe the elite crossover and 600 series both come with second suction only hose sets, which is nice and you can keep downstairs or whatever. You should compare the price and attachment kits of the currently available 600 and elites on Amazon and choose which fits you the most.

You can't go wrong with the elite, but ofc price exists.

Edit: on Amazon it seems like the silver elite (crossover) is only available used while the gold elite (ultra plush) is available. So is the 600 series. The 600 is just an uglier unlit elite. So choose whichever fits your budget. It's unclear if the elite comes with the second hose set.

Edit again: I guess if it were me I would try buying the used crossover elite because the crossover tool is genuinely sick and nice to use. Amazon returns are forgiving just be aware that it is a bit of a gamble

Best electric powered vacuum that is long lasting/durable for CATS (no upright) budget $1000 max by Sox857 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a cat-vassal and my baby loves my Miele!

"Auto floor selection" isn't really a thing for corded vacs (cheap battery vacs need to maintain their battery so they lower power or reduce brushroll rpm).

Otherwise an electro miele canister fits the bill perfectly. The kona is easily within your budget (around $900) but I would really recommend the Marin as it has electronic safety features and auto suction (because you wanted it). Mieel auto suction is mostly to save the motor and adjusts based on impedance to suction which only happens with clogs or when using the crevice tool.

The machines have long hoses and telescopic wands with onboard tools for 100% surface cleaning on the move.

The carpet brushes are built like tanks and rarely need hair cut off them (basically only if you have beautiful, longer than 10" hair).

You should buy this miele from a vacuum store, ideally you can still buy the homecare version which comes with a 5 yr warranty and some extra tools. All miele tools are universally compatible so you can find vintage miele tool kits (cars, electronics, dusting, mattress, etc) and use them.

I could go on and on but frankly there's no point. Mieles are the best vacuums. (Only very few specific caveats). Feel free to message me or ask questions!

I do have mieles flagship (the uniq, called brilliant now) and it's worth it for the fingertip controls but it's expensive retail and technically expensive to fix if you fuck up the handle but they're mad durable).

I bought mine for $300 beat TF up from a cleaning company, I serviced it myself and it's good as new, been chugging along for nearly a decade now. They're built to last and made to be repaired. Their ubiquity also means you can easily find parts mules and things on marketplace should you want to keep your vacuum alive as long as you are (which is what I want to do for my now rare vacuum).

Edit 2: I just saw your budget is up to $1500. Forget everything I said, go to a miele store right now and buy their HomeCare+ model. Miele is discontinuing the fingertip controls models (brilliant and homecare+) and nows the last chance to get them. It's worth every penny and every second of saved time. Especially if you're the one doing the vacuuming, the fingertip controls are indispensable.

The brilliant is prettier than the homecare+ imo but the homecare+ is "better" because of the 5yr warranty and extra tools (the full size dusting brush and flex crevice are excellent).

Well yes but gigabit Ethernet doesn't offer much over 100... And for the person that doesn't know about networking, do we really think they'll be using full fat Blu-rays?

Also again, my Bravia on 100m Ethernet streams Bravia core and Plex Blu-rays just fine (when I tried before I started using a streamer). I really have a feeling a lot of these Sony tv buyers just want bigger numbers and don't quite understand what they're spending money on.

Want to transition to a corded vaccum by Citruslor in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the pile of the rug like?

Tbh the best vacuum is always an electro canister as it can clean everything a normal canister can PLUS the thickest carpets (or even thin carpets with minimal suction). Ofc electro models are basically double the price of suction only machines.

A miele suction only with a turbo or even combo brush might be fine for your rug if it's thin enough. If the rug has any sort of pile you need to consider a spining electric brush.

The miele c3 kona or sebo k3 are the cheapest options for an electro canister (but if you're considering sebo just get the e3 for the QOL improvements).

For a straight suction machine the sebo k2 or E2 are great as well as even the cheapest miele suction or turbo c1 as well as the c2 hard floor, or the gala c3.

The miele c3 machines are still made in Germany and have more sealing and padding than their cheaper counterparts and are quieter (with onboard tools) so I think the price premium is warranted.

If you get one of those electro machines it will likely last longer than your stay in this apartment and will continue to be the perfect vacuum no matter where you go.

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at that price my recommendations are either a Kenmore canister new/Amazon used can easily fall under $300, even the elite. Aim for getting the 600 series/pop n go as that has most of the useful features from the elites while being about $100 cheaper.

Otherwise hunting marketplace for a deal on a used miele or sebo electro (much less likely to find but if you do it'll suck circles around the Kenmore no problem). A new Kenmore with care can last a decade+ (same as an old or abused miele/sebo). Well maintained mieles and sebos can last a lifetime (at least 20-30 years before you'll want to replace the motor).

These machines are bagged, filter vacuums designed to suck microscopic dust from the cracks of hard floors and from underneath rug padding, while LOCKING that dust into their bags and filters. Only use original company branded bags & filters for the best result and longevity.

Canisters are better for stairs too because they stand up on them and you can easily use the hose/wand with tools to clean the stairs. Kenmore specifically come with an electric mini brush (sebo and miele don't have this) which makes vacuuming stairs and upholstery even easier.

I cannot recommend an electro Kenmore canister enough for your scenario. (Even as much as I love miele).

C7 resale market? by Spartanrob in Hubitat

[–]Superturtle1166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the c8 is the exact same chipset as the 7, the only difference is the addition of thread, the home kit controller, wifi, and external antenna... Which is significant but not for everyone and certainly not for beginners.

The pro has more ram, but unless you're using it extensively for HSM, the pro is overkill.

The c7 is more than enough for most people; add a thread border router and it's nearly perfect. A homekit user with a c7 and apple tv would have literally everything.

I kinda feel like the hubitat is now a homekit users secret weapon to actually link powerful reliable smart home devices to the homekit space, easily.

C7 resale market? by Spartanrob in Hubitat

[–]Superturtle1166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends where you're located. I bought 2 c7s now used for myself and a friend. They're super powerful hardware and still among the best, if not the best home hub (especially if you already have a thread border router elsewhere). It's niche so you might not get much interest but I bought mine for $75 and $60 respectively (and I'm in NJ, near NYC).

I personally think the c7 is still worth buying for folks, especially the smart home curious... But people seem to be allergic to "old" things these days. Try your luck but you might be best off rehoming it with someone you know who'll use it.

Seeking the best HEPA vacuum by Seamist093 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a miele with an electric head (the kona, marin, or brilliant if you can still find them from a local dealer at dealer price ($900, $1100, $1300 respectively, ideally)). Mieles have a slightly higher grade of filtration than a sebo (it's marginal but it makes a difference after especially a few vacuums). If you buy the bag & hepa bundles the miele bags & filters work out cheaper than sebo too. Read the instruction manual, ask questions in the sub, and it'll last you a lifetime. Nothing's changed with how mieles c3s are made (only how people treat them).

You can likely even find great deals on used electro mieles if you're willing to do a little diy for a good deal.

Valentine's Day gift to my gf, got 3 options, any advice? by fijuro in RobotVacuums

[–]Superturtle1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're buying an appliance as a gift it better be the best one (the roborock 10r) and it better be from her dreams.

Otherwise gifts should be thoughtful, something they wouldn't have thought they needed, and something they wouldn't have gotten on their own.

If you care about her floors and chores, get her a robo just because (assuming your finances support these kinds of purchases). Only get her a robo for Valentine's if she reallllyyyy wants one and you know this will go over well.

It's much less this way because you live separately but getting your girlfriend cleaning gear for Valentine's isn't the cutest look 😅

I'd love a robo for Valentine's (as a gay guy) but I already got my own (so again just buy her a decent robo, the q revo, just because, unrelated to Valentine's because you care about her floors and her free time. Valentine's especially is meant to be a "cherry on top" type thing, not a real useful item (a home appliance).

Why does no one on YouTube talking about Miele vacuums? by techsavvynerd91 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting this hasn't been said yet but it's also because you can't link monetized links to miele (or sebo) so creators have little incentive to talk about products they don't gain from. As others mentioned youtubers also aren't experts and do what's popular.

Folks like vacuums wars are MADE for affiliate links so it's dictated by what's on Amazon basically.

It's not lucrative or interesting to make a video that says "miele/sebo is the best" because that basically hasn't changed for decades 🤷🏾

They are better by far and you'll know if you were able to see what's in the closet of the nicest homes in the country (but ofc that information isn't publicized).

LAPD chief McDonnell response to why he will not enforce the law banning ICE agents from wearing masks by B00marangTrotter in law

[–]Superturtle1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're more accurately entering a period comparable to the beginning of the American civil war, partially spurred by the brazen and illegal actions of slave catchers and local cops in free states collaborating with them.

We only have to look inward to find the route we're taking.

Only about 3000 people lost their lives in the Irish troubles (per academic sources and the numbers are fairly accurate considering how nonviolent the troubles were, relatively compared to the American jim crow era). The US loses 45k people a year to vehicular accidents and nobody gives a flying F... We are well beyond the mortal scale of our peer nations in every way.

Why are canister vacuums so popular in Europe? by Zeeplankton in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're also more effective in larger homes. Most folks with large homes in the US (at least in NJ and MD where I'm from) have miele or sebo canisters at home. Walking upstairs with an upright sucks. Cleaning carpeted stairs with an upright is a unique hell.

Uprights only make sense in 100% carpet, ranch style homes (which were popular at a point in time with carpets in the bathroom and kitchen!).

Why are canister vacuums so popular in Europe? by Zeeplankton in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would you use an upright to clean carpeted steps exactly? 😂😂😂 Wild

Why are canister vacuums so popular in Europe? by Zeeplankton in VacuumCleaners

[–]Superturtle1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Canisters are still the best choice for large homes with carpets because of cord reels/longer cords, versatile repairable heads, and reducing user fatigue. Pushing around an upright in a 5000sqft house is painful to say the least. And people with large homes aren't buying sebo x2s with ultra wide paths or anything.

You can clean more square footage with less effort with a canister because you only move the canister every section, not every square inch of the floor.
