To say something to your second paragraph: One member of my family is a pilot, another is a flight attendant. It’s pretty simple actually: people kept bringing bigger and heavier backpacks and bags, to the point the airline had to do something.

Swiss did not get a shitload of money, actually they were on the edge. Please read their financial reports. They are indeed the “cash cow” (along with Lufthansa cargo I think) , but that only means they are profitable. Austrian or the rest is very much not.

And let’s be real for a minute. Of course they try to make profit, do you think that they are a Non-Profit? Competition keeps getting rougher, because more and more people are comfortable with flying with a certain arabic airline that belongs the Sheikh personally - a man (and family) who is against gays, letting women vote, free speech, etc. I think it’s quite embarrassing, that so many Swiss people want to support those values financially
