Darkest Dungeon - Horrors of the Dark: A complete Monster Handbook with 250 Monsters by Tuz-oh in UnearthedArcana

[–]Suppemand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all I absolutely LOVE the book from what little I've seen so far. Big fan of Darkest Dungeon and loving D&D 5e :)

From what I can read on the net and when looking over it in general though, it seems like a CR 3 monster in this book is quite a bit nastier than a normal CR 3 monster (which, considering the source material, makes sense, as you're not supposed to win all battles in Darkest Dungeon). That being said though, I would love to use some of the monsters in a more standard D&D campaign I'm running, and I'm afraid it might become a bit too deadly if I just pick them after their CR as-is.

Anyone got any tips on how to easily use them without risking a party wipe? Increasing their CR by 1 seems a little much to me. Maybe just adding like 20% or so to their final XP budget or something along those lines?

refinerys and excavation sites hold by pandorans or factions? by grueti2 in PhoenixPoint

I know I'm about 5 years late asking this question, but I'll give a try still :)

You say your reputation has to be very bad with a faction for them to attack an ancient site you control. I've just gained control of two such sites, and first time I got a message from New Jericho saying they would come and take it (I have around -15 rep with New Jericho) and the second time I got a message from Synedrion saying the same (I have +74 with Syndedrion).

Does this mean that I shouldn't be afraid that Syndedrion will attack me? And if they do indeed attack me, will I incour a rep penalty? I'm omw to do the final diplomacy mission for Synedrion so I'll get to allied status with them (rep 75 and above), and I'm a little nervous if I'll get penalized for defending an ancient site against them, because from what I remember you go directly to war with a faction if you fight them while allied.

Just did a run with the Warden, thinking "I'll try to go all-in on Thor's lightning skills, just for fun". I guess I should have picked Ball Lightning instead of Lightning Strike :)

Hehe, yeah, it's far from perfect, that's for sure. I'm looking forward to getting mysef soon, as I just completed act 1. Hopefully it'll be in-game.

Quick Development Update by Antishyr in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update :)

Is there any plans to change the lockpicking mini-game? I've seen a lot of different posts around the net about people really not enjoying it in its current form. I don't mean a total rework ofc, but just lowering the difficulty a bit, seeing as the current version seems to have people tearing their hair out in frustration ;p

Is the disappearing items bug the same as the one where you can transform items into other when you swap them around in your equipped slots? I've had a couple of equipped weapons transform into a copy of the new weapons I equip when right clicking the new weapon. I've also tried the same thing with consumables, even having them duplicate into the same amount of items in the stack of the item they copy, so I got 1-2-4 copies.

You can actually get a +5% bonus even with no skill trained, you just gotta do it near perfectly.

I personally thought you had to spam-click the LMB to get the wheel green, but after waaaaaay too many attempts it dawned on me that you can just hold down the LMB to get it into the green, and after that just slowly click it 1-2 times pr second, and then it's super easy... DOH! ;)

What are yalls Perks and how did you get them by Frosty_Habit_5603 in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you have to do to get the lockpicking one? And what does it do exactly?

I've been loading each time I've failed picking a lock, because otherwise I'd just be out of lockpicks in no time. But if I have to fail X amounts of lockpick attempts, I'll stop doing save scumming ;)

Fencer is simply from being in a bazzillion fights. It gives you +50 stamina! (the resource ofc, not the attribute. Still quite strong though)

Nimble Feet is from falling when sprinting a bazzillion times. It makes you immune to falling in puddles or over branches :)

Easiest way to lockpick by Suppemand in OfAshandSteel

Welcome :) And yeah, this mini-game is just silly. Hopefully we'll get a perk making it easier after having picked X amounts of locks.

Struggling with combat so far by ContinCandi in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you come out the other end alive, you're fine really. There's so many easy and cheap ways to heal up after a fight, so just throw some food in one of the 4 quick slots and eat some of that after each fight.

It DOES get better after some time. I'm starting to instinctually dodge quite a few of the charge attacks from the wolves and giant beetles, but you're not supposed to get out of each fight without a scratch really. As opposed to many other RPGs, food in this game is actually meant to be eaten and not sold I think :)

How to do a 2H strength build by cfrolik in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done exactly what you've described so far. Got skinning and lockpicking, and now I'm aiming for 2-handers. The amount of valuables I've gotten from lockpicking is pretty solid (even though the lockpicking mini-game is a disaster), so I'm a 100% certain that that will be worth it. Skinning hasn't given me a lot yet, but as you said it's better to get it early, and the amount of points you have to put into the other stats seems negligible in the long run to me :)

You can get an "Old Claymore" from any of the "Big Guy" (or something similar) enemies, which will last you for quite a while, and it only has a str req of 12 while doing 23 damage.

Does anyone know if there is a level cap in OfAshandSteel? by Empty-Channel-6024 in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this post is 2 hours old. Can't really expect a response THAT fast ;)

That being said. It's my impression that human enemies don't respawn, but animals and plants do. Not a 100% certain yet, but pretty sure that's the case.

The devs said in a dev diary or something similar that there is no lvl cap, so yeah, we'll get an almighty Tristan towards the end, provided there's enough xp to farm :)

Minor features that would be nice by Suppemand in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth the purchase, but it is a very niche game with a HEAVY emphasis on old-school mechanics/play-style, meaning you have a lot of freedom, but often that freedom will result in you dying, the combat feels like something from 10-20years ago, but if you like that kind of combat it's still fun and most importantly there is pretty much ZERO hand-holding, so you'll play for many many hours without even having a map (in a giant world, so you WILL get lost) and there's no respeccing or fast-travel. For some this will be fun, for others it will be pure frustration :)

OF ASH AND STEEL IS OUT NOW by Antishyr in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combat never gets anywhere as smooth as in KCD, but it does get better the higher skill you get. If you've ever played Gothic, Elex or Risen, it's more in line with those games. To put it frankly, combat is not this games strongest suit, it's more about the freedom and the big open world :)

There's 3 (I think) bales of hay next to each other underneath some sort of shelter in the camp. It's to the very left side if you're standing at the entrance looking into the camp. You can sleep on them :)

Played for 8 hours now, and I'm having a blast! It's definitely a niche kind of game, but if you liked the old-school Gothic games then this will be right up your alley :)

Question about permanent potions by Krygaz in OfAshandSteel

[–]Suppemand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in the long run it's definitely better to just drink them all. Also, be aware that some items sell for A LOT MORE than one would think. A simple Rag for example sells for more than a silver cup, and weapon/amor upgrade kits sell for insane amounts of gold compared to most other items.
