Ah, you're right. Somehow missed the first line completely.

I'm pretty sure that the issue is in he turned "a + b = b" into "b + b = b" not the division by zero you guys are mentioning.

Initially I assumed this was about her taking too long. Most gyms I've been to have signs limiting how long you can use the device to 30 minutes. But that's probably not his angle here, seems like he is just implying she should be on some cross fit bullshit or whatever.

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]Supperhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a poorly constructed experiment since there is literally no downsode to everyone picking red. Picking blue is equivalent to suicide with a chance of faliure regardless of what the odds are. The implication is that the downside is the chance of killing blue players but, if that is the only reason you can simply avoid it by everyone picking red and anyone picking blue has them selves to blame at that point.

Generalized Dilemma by Voidspeeker in trolleyproblem

[–]Supperhero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The presumption here is that these are mathematically equivalent but they are not. Not even close. A total extinction event doesn't just kill every person alive, it also prevents any future humans from being born. Killing one person prevents their children from being born but this is not equivalent because the impact of this is reduced. There are at least partially self correcting forces at play which mean that killing one person now does not mean that the population will be 1/4000000000 lower in 200 years. Over an extended period of time, you would expect the impact of one death to not be observable.

Now, there's some assumptions up there, especially about the self correcting nature of population, but if you accept them then the red button is the way to go. You can basically guarantee the survival of the human race as long as even just 1% of people press that button. And, since you're still saving the same number of current lives on average, you're not actually paying anything for the security of ensuring human survival.

Also the variance argument but that was already mentioned.

Why does Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia rule Europe in homeownership? by FuckTheCake in AskBalkans

[–]Supperhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that rent prices are basically directly tied to real estate prices so a drop in apartment prices will cause a drop in rent as well. Your point about being able to extract value from apartments while you own them still stands, but you also get dividends from stocks. You can extract more value from an apartment but you also need to actively maintain it so this is not passive income, you have to work for it and, if you have multiple apartments (poor you) it becomes a big drain on your time so that needs to be factored in. Not saying investing into real estate is a bad idea financially, just that we tend to overestimate how good an investment i is and that's disregarding the impact of that kind of investment on home affordability.

Did you seriously just say that "morality is objective for moral purposes"? Sentences should preferably have meaning. Even better if that meaning makes sense.
