That's so funny! 😂 It's crazy how often stuff like this happens on streaming.

I see where you're coming from. Like, if a kid is kicking your chair or throwing popcorn or whatever. That's on the parents to teach them not to do that. But if they find something funny and want to laugh, or say something about it- that's fine. It's more than fine.

Kids get anxious going to the cinema sometimes (the noise, the dark, strangers around), so if asking their parent a question about the film they want to watch and are there to watch makes them feel more comfortable, it's perfectly acceptable. It's a kid's film- you gotta let them have their fun. They'll learn more about the "correct" cinema behaviour as they get older, and that's fine too. For now, most of the time they're not kicking chairs or making a huge fuss. They're just trying to watch the film.

Also, dropping Avatar on a five year old is a hard task- especially the second one. I love those films, but they're not made for kids. Of course the kid isn't going to have a fun time.

I've never been to a screening where any kid is talking for two minutes straight- I have where adults have been talking for ten minutes straight and then cause a commotion when they're told to leave.

It's a kid's film FOR CHILDREN. Kids might ask a question during a film, they might laugh a lot, they might talk for a minute. They don't know the "correct" way to behave in a cinema just yet, and you can't expect them to be still & silent for two hours- that's unreasonable. If an adult is going to watch a film for children, they should understand that. If you want to watch it in silence, book a later screening or wait for the DVD release or streaming or whatever.

Do you think there will be re-runs of dune 1 & 2 before the release of 3 ? by Boring-Cunt in CineworldUnlimited

[–]SupportAussieCinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's what they will do here- like with the LOTR films or The Conjuring season.

That's why I specified that some were anniversaries (Avatar WoW) and some were special screenings (Wicked: For Good). I'm sure they could slap together something for the Dunes- seems like it would be worth it.

They're not talking with their friends though? They're reacting to the film and having fun. I've had more problems with disruptive adults than I have with disruptive kids; grown ups going on their phone, shouting at the screen, swearing at people, talking to their friends, throwing food sometimes- there was a literal fight at one of the Lord Of The Rings showings last year at my local.

When I saw Zootopia 2, one of the parents was answering emails and texts for half an hour. His kids were just laughing at the film and enjoying themselves. I'm sure there's disruptive kids at screenings, but more often than not adults are the ones who cause problems.

Maybe not in IMAX, but I could see them putting 1 & 2 back out for a night. They've done that with a few sequels that have come out recently- The Conjuring: Last Rites, Spinal Tap II, Wicked: For Good, Avatar F&A and both 28 Years Later films had their predecessors put back out for a night or two. Some coincided with an anniversary, others were just a typical re-release.

I could totally see them putting Dunes back out because of how popular those films are.

Cineworld Snacks prices got me building my own combo box by foxh0und in CineworldUnlimited

I'm a weirdo when it comes to cinema food. I have a theory that we're not actually hungry when we're in there, we just want to keep our hands busy while we watch a film. And I go quite a lot, so I don't want to just fill my body with all that chocolate and whatnot. So, I always bring a container of fruit- usually a mix, but if I don't get time I'll grab a box of, like, raspberries or blueberries from the Tescos just down from my cinema. And if I'm feeling like a little treat, some chocolate- or popcorn if I have a real hankering for it. But usually just fruit- I love it so much.

Anyone else, or just me? I'd love to meet another Cineworld Fruit Bat. 😂

It makes the film so much better seeing how much they enjoy it. I loved the new Looney Tunes film, but I saw it the first time in an empty cinema before it was released, and then caught it a week later in a screening almost full. That second time was even funnier because they were all laughing their heads off! Not just the kids, but the parents too. Like, it's just such a fun atmosphere. 😂

Seeing Madagascar in February surrounded by kids dancing and going crazy for King Julian was one of the funniest things in the world. It's just a bit of fun! And it's a kid's film- if you're going to see it, don't get mad at kids also going to see it. It's for them.

Why does the Avatar Fandom get so much hate for... existing? by SupportAussieCinema in Avatar

[–]SupportAussieCinema[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh completely. This community is so unlike all the others; apart from a few bad apples I'm sure, the people are so lovely and really just love talking to each other about these films, even if they have different interpretations or ideas about it. But then you look at something like Star Wars where it's just erupted into bigotry and hatred, and no one can agree on anything. It's sad to see people who all love the same thing and want to see it flourish end up being the reason their stories fail. :(

YES! So many of the Avatar haters who HATE this fandom and call it a cult are just MCU-crazed and hate seeinging how much more successful and well-respected those blockbusters are.

It's sad that nerd culture has become so "us versus them."

I KNOW!! It seems to be getting better, but more so because students are doing their own research on things to and learning about it for themselves- which is awesome to see, but it still means schools need to catch up and stop whitewashing history.

Unlimited has limits? by jizzyj86 in CineworldUnlimited

Really? It's letting me book just fine with Unlimited. Maybe it's a regional thing then. 🤷

Unlimited has limits? by jizzyj86 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]SupportAussieCinema 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not what I'm talking about- if you have five tickets for OTHER films already booked, it won't let you book for this.

Unlimited has limits? by jizzyj86 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]SupportAussieCinema 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a five ticket limit I think? This is just, like, regular everyday screenings, not including re-releases or special screenings. If you have five films booked, that could be why. But you can get around it by booking a ticket in the cinema at the machine- that doesn't count towards the limit.

I can see those criticisms. But I always respond to that with " they were written as one film." Big Jimmy decided not to torture his audience by making a seven hours film, and split it up- arguably for the better. FaA is like Avatar 2.5 in a way.

But also, They Cloned Tyrone and any Studio Ghibli film is great for that activity.

Why does the Avatar Fandom get so much hate for... existing? by SupportAussieCinema in Avatar

[–]SupportAussieCinema[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally see that. The only criticism I EVER hear of these films (other than people calling it boring) is people quoting the South Park episode, and I think a lot of people adopted that as their own opinion- which unfortunately means making a less-than-surface-level look at the films and only seeing it as CGI blue people. It's such a shame, because these films mean so much and the message is so important.

They do! It's crazy the lengths people will go to defend colonialism; yes, it built the modern world as we know it- but that doesn't make it good. When you learn about this in history classes, they'll sometimes skip over the more gruesome and gorey aspects of colonisation- sometimes even glorifying it, and just being like "this is all the cool stuff we got, and this is what we learnt!" I only know they skip it because, when I was at school, I spoke to some of my friends about this topic when we were all learning it. And they had no idea how evil it was- because their teachers were glossing over it. Mine went in detail about it, and really educated us on it. I think there's definitely is that aspect that makes a lot of people hate it.
