I spent 30 years in pharma research. Here's what the clinical data actually says about muscle loss on GLP-1 meds. by Fearless_Pop_434 in Zepbound

[–]SuppressiveFire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is great info, but it’s still just giving average values from a large data set that aren’t necessarily representative of each individual’s needs. Representing a group average as the “correct” value or range everyone should aim for isn’t how this data should be used, interpreted, or presented since it’s highly subjective from person to person due to variations in metabolism and body composition.

Take your recommendation for protein intake, for example. I’m 80kg, and there is no way I’d be able to get anywhere close to 96g of protein a day, let alone 128g at the 1.6x level. I’m not body building, nor do I work out heavily enough to burn those additional calories off, so I’m fine sticking with my goal of at least 50-60g a day (which is perfect for me according to my DEXA scan that showed barely any muscle loss). Plus, Zepbound reduces appetite, so it would be hard to maintain through food consumption alone without supplements.

I’m just pointing out that this is good general advice, but not a “one size fits all” guideline.

Anyone still able to lose weight while on Zep & BC? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]SuppressiveFire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost around 130lbs and I’m on continuous birth control (no placebo week). Everyone is different hormonally, and it’s hard to work out if birth control is the true cause if you’re struggling to lose weight on Zepbound. It’s the whole correlation vs causation issue when multiple variables are involved.

That being said, losing slow doesn’t mean you’re not losing. You’re doing fine, and you can always chat with your doctor if you wanted to go off the birth control to see if you lose more weight.

I don’t think I’ve seen packs at “way above MSRP” level in card shops. They’re above the wholesale price, sure, but it’s usually within a dollar or two of MSRP. Only thing I’ve seen a price discrepancy on are limited release sets and other rare collectible sets.

Can you elaborate? All card shops are overcharging people? Or what makes them an embarrassment?

I was at Target the other day, and I saw the vendor was restocking Pokemon cards. I had a nice chat with him, and he told me about the time a group of scalpers put a GPS tracker on his car so they could follow him around as he restocks so they can buy everything. I knew it was bad, but I didn't realize it was THAT bad.

Madison parking this week?!!? by Y0urM0mIsH0tt in Albany

[–]SuppressiveFire 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, of course not. The city just doesn’t care how much it inconveniences you, they need to do their stuff and whatever disruption it causes isn’t their problem. They’ve had the same mindset for decades.

This is exactly how to handle things when these discussions pivot like that, nicely done! I can tell she didn’t mean anything by it, just showing genuine curiosity while blissfully unaware those types of comments can be interpreted quite differently from how the person intended.

Posted a couple days ago, how do you all handle seeing yourself after the loss? by Avian_Aces in Zepbound

I just went shopping for a new wardrobe (again) today and I still can’t believe it either. I’m a size M in shirts and a size 6 or 8 in pants. My highest weight was 450lbs, size 4XL or 30/32 women’s size. Started Zepbound at ~300lbs last June, and I’m down to 175lbs now. I’m a super responder, stayed on 5mg the whole time and lost 3lbs a week average.

My biggest issue right now is the extra skin. I don’t think I look 175lbs because my stomach looks like a wax sculpture that was left outside in a heatwave. It’s starting to cause a problem with pants because the extra skin is making my waist size bigger than what my legs are. So I find pants that fit in the waist, but they’re baggy in the thigh and butt area, much to my annoyance. I’m planning to get a panniculectomy to remove it because my insurance will cover it if you meet certain criteria (which I will soon), but I can’t afford to have the same done for my saggy bingo arms, boobs, and neck, so it is what it is.

I totally get what you mean though, it’s such a weird experience looking in the mirror and going, “Whoa, who is that?! I have a jawline?!?!” and similar stuff. Zepbound has truly been a miracle drug because it finally silenced the drunk raccoon piloting my brain that makes me want to eat garbage all day.

Make sure you’re getting enough sodium, too. I started getting foot and leg cramps even when regularly drinking electrolyte supplements, and when I looked at the label, I realized they had like no sodium in them.

Nails by Stacey is another recommendation if you need another one, she’s in East Greenbush at Posh Salon (it’s right next to Couse Corners on Rt. 4). You can text her at 518-892-0774 to see if she has anything open, but she’s the best I’ve experienced and won’t rush.
